Influence of the Precursor Solutions on the Properties of BST Thin Films

  • We have studied the effects of solvents and additives in the precursor solutions on the characteristics of barium strontium titanate (BST) thin films. The solution having two solvents, ie. acetic acid for barium acetate and strontium acetate and 2-methoxyethanol for titanium isopropoxide and also having an additive of ethylene glycol shows good stability and remains homogeneous even after a month of ageing. It produces excellent BST thin film without cracks. Dielectric constant, loss tangent at 10KHz and leakage current density at 3V of the BST (70/30) thin film made from this solution are 339, 0.052 and 13.3 ${\mu}\textrm{A}$/$\texmrm{cm}^2$, respectively.

  • In this study, composite $BaSrTiO_3$ has been studied for high frequency device applications. Composite $Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}TiO_3$ has high dielectric permittivity and low loss tangent at the relative frequency range from MHz to GHz. 10,30 and 50 wt% of epoxy doped $Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}TiO_3$ powders were prepared with bisphenol A and F polymer employing ball milling process. Epoxy/($BaSrTiO_3$) composites thick films were screen printed on the Cu plated PCB substrates through screen printing methods. The specimens were designed for the embedded capacitor applications. Temperature dependent dielectric permittivity of Epoxy doped $BaSrTiO_3$ ceramics was measured.

  • We have investigated dielectric dispersion and absorption in organic light-emitting diodes using 8-hydroxyquinoline aluminum($Alq_3$) as an electron transport and emissive material. We analyzed the dielectric dispersion and absorption of organic light emitting diodes using impedance characteristics measurement by the auto-balancing bridge technique of ITO/$Alq_3$/Al. Impedance characteristics was measured complex impedance Z and phase e in the frequency range of 40Hz to $10^8Hz$. We obtained dielectric constant and loss tangent (tan $\delta$) of the device. From these analyses, we are able to interpret a dielectric dispersion and dielectric absorption contributed by an interfacial and orientational polarization.

Effect of Dry Process on Dielectric Properties of PZT Thin Films Prepared by Sol-Gel Process

  • Properties of lead zirconate titanate ferroelectric thin films prepared by rapid thermal annealing/direct insertion thermal annealing were investigated. The remnant polarization (Pr), saturation polarization (Ps), and coercive force (Ec) of typical samples annealed by rapid thermal annealing (RTA) are about 13.7 $\mu$ C/cm$^2$, 27.1 $\mu$C/cm$^2$, and 55.6 kV/cm, respectively. The dielectric constant of the sample is about 786, the dielectric loss tangent is about 2.4% at 1 kHz. Furthermore, ferroelectric, conduction, and piezoelectric properties of the thin films annealed by RTA process and the direct insertion thermal annealing (DITA) process were compared. The influence of temperature in the dry process on the above properties was also investigated.

  • 본 연구에서는 직접 제작된 전도유체(electrorheological fluid)용 수직진동 rhemeter 기기상의 구조 해석 및 실험을 실시하였다. 수직진동 rheomether는 간단하게 제작이 가능하고, 고전압 발생장치를 연결하므로 전동유체의 점탄성 특성을 비교적 쉽게 측정할 수 있다. Rheometer의 구조적 변수와 측정된 힘, 변형 등을 이용하여 복소 점도(complex viscosity), 복소 전단 변형률(complex shear modulus), loss tangent 등의 선형 점탄성 물질 함수를 직접 계산할 수 있으며, corn starch를 polybutene/kerosene에 분산시킨 전동유체를 이용하여 전기장하의 점탄성을 측정하였다.

A new low dielectric constant barium titanate - poly (methyl methacrylate) nanocomposite films

  • In the present investigation, nanocomposite films with poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) as a polymer matrix and barium titanate as a filler were prepared by solution casting method. Barium titanate nano particles were prepared using Ti(IV) triethanolaminato isopropoxide and hydrated barium hydroxide as precursors and tetra methyl ammonium hydroxide (TMAH) as a base. The nanocomposite films were characterized using XRD, FTIR, SEM and dielectric spectroscopy techniques. Dielectric measurements were performed in the frequency range 100 Hz-10 MHz. Dielectric constant of nanocomposites were found to depend on the frequency, the temperature and the filler fraction. Dissipation factors were also influenced by the frequency and the temperature but not much influenced by the filler fractions. The 10 wt% of BT-PMMA nanocomposite had the lowest dielectric constant of 3.58 and dielectric loss tangent of 0.024 at 1MHz and $25^{\circ}C$. The dielectric mixing model of Modified Lichtenecker showed the close fit to the experimental data.

  • In this paper, the ultra-widebend, microstrip patch antenna with the bandwidth of 3 GHz was implemented for ultra-wideband(UWB) wireless communication applications. In order to cover the very wide bandwidth of 3 GHz, a multi-resonance antenna was designed, each resonance frequency was separated into five frequency bend, 7.5, 8.1, 8.7, 9.3, and 9.9GHz with the interval of 600MHz BW. And for wideband characteristics of each antenna, U-slot antennas were designed at each center frequency. Designed five U-slot antennas were connected in series for multi-resonance of 3GHz BW and wideband matching was also designed for impedance matching transmission line calculated. The relative dielectric constant, the height, the loss tangent of the PCB substrate were ${\epsilon}_r=4.8,\;h=0.6$ and loss tangent=0.0009 respectively. The implemented antenna's radiation patterns and gain were directivity characteristics and $1.46{\sim}4.08dBi$ at the five separated center frequency.

  • The dielectric properties of semi-IPN poly(phenylene oxide)(PPO) blend/$BaTiO_3$(BT) composites are investigated. The composites are fabricated via melt-mixing of crosslinker and peroxide in precursor PPO composite obtained by precipitating the suspension consisted of PPO, BT and toluene into methylethyl ketone, poor solvent of PPO. The permittivity of the precursor PPO composites shows higher value than that of integral-blended PPO composites by extruder and coincides with the theoretical value calculated by logarithmic rule of mixture. The blend of PPO and cross-linked triallyl isocyanurate is most effective for lowering the permittivity and loss tangent owing to the suppression of the orientation polarization of matrix. In contrast, 4,4'-(1,3-phenylene diisopropylidene) bisaniline, which has amine unit in its structure, increases the permittivity as well as loss tangent of the composite, but it has the ability to densify the matrix resin and the interfacial adhesion between the matrix and filler to improves flexural strength and modulus.

Modeling of the Power/Ground Plane Noise Including Dielectric Substrate Loss (유전체 손실을 고려한 전원부에서 유기되는 노이즈 모델링에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we propose the modeling of the power/ground plane which includes complex dielectric permittivity and loss tangent for the power/ground coupled noise. In order to estimate the effects of the dielectric substrate for the coupled noise, we used full-wave simulators, HFSS(High Frequency Structure Simulation) and MWS(MicroWave Studio). The simulated results for the commercial substrates are compared with the measured values. TLM(Transmission Line Method) was used for the calculation of power plane impedance using Debye model which depicts the dielectric loss of PCB. Finally, impedance from proposed circuit model showed very good coincidence to the measured data.

Effect of Moisture on Molecular Motions of Chitosan/Polycaprotactam Blends (키토산/카프로락탐 혼합체에 대한 수분의 영향)

  • The membranes of the blends of chitosan and polycaprolactarn (PA6) were prepared in formic acid. FT-IR data revealed that hydrogen bonding between amide and hydroxyl groups of chitosan and PA6, respectively, was formed. Thermogravimetric analysis demonstrated that the blend samples contain water. DMA results showed that the dissipation of water in the samples significantly reduced the storage modulus (E'). The mechanical loss tangent (tan $\delta$) data of the blend samples showed the $\beta$d loss peak around $0^{\circ}C$. The blend samples were completely dried in a vacuum and then exposed to high moisture to absorb water which would cause, so called, w-bridges between the molecules. The E' data of these regained samples increased abnormally and additional loss peak appeared on the shoulder of the peak around $50^{\circ}C$. Under dry condition, the samples with a blend ratio of 40/60 for chitosan/PA6 displayed a better miscibility between two components.
