Design and Implementation of Digital Photo Kiosk System with Auto Color Correction Module (자동 컬러 보정 모듈을 가진 디지털 포토 키오스크 시스템의 설계 및 구현)

  • This paper introduces design and implementation of digital photo kiosk system, digital photo printing system, with auto color correction module that considers gamut between touch screen and output device, digital photo printer, to provide user-preferred media. This module performs media correction function to service high quality contents for image captured by digital camera and mobile phone camera. Since it is implemented as LUT for real-time processing, the system offers one-touch interface to user. As a result of implementation, this kiosk system provides user-favorite photo because of black and white mode, sepia mode, and brightness and contrast adjustment. Also it can gives smooth tone transition and photos of similar color to captured image due to auto color correction module.

  • The decision-directed blind equalization algorithm is often used due to its simplicity and good convergence property when the eye pattern is open. However, in a channel where the eye pattern is closed, the decision-directed algorithm is not guaranteed to converge. Hence, a modified Bussgang-type algorithm using a hyperbolic tangent function for zero-memory nonlinear(ZNL) function has been proposed and applied to avoid this problem by Filho et al. But application of this algorithm includes the calculation of hyperbolic tangent function and its derivative or a look-up table which may need a large amount of memory due to channel variations. To reduce the computational and/or hardware complexity of Filho's algorithm, in this paper, an improved method for the decision-directed algorithm is proposed. In the proposed scheme, the ZNL function and its derivative are respectively set to be the original signum function and a narrow rectangular pulse which is an approximation of Dirac delta function. It is shown that the proposed scheme, when it is combined with decision-directed algorithm, reduces the computational complexity drastically while it retains the convergence and steady-state performance of the Filho's algorithm.

  • It is necessary that Fail-Safe Seaway technology providing a continuous navigation solution though fault of navigation system is occurred in sea. This paper focus on signal processing of GPS receiver, one of receivers using the software radio technology to implement a integrated radio navigation system including satellite-based and ground-based navigation systems. It is difficult to implement the software GPS receivers using a commercial processor because of the heavy computational burden for processing the GPS signals in real time. This paper proposes an efficient multi-bit GPS signal processing scheme to reduce the computational burden for processing the GPS signals in the software GPS receiver. The proposed scheme uses a compression concept of the multi-bit replica signals and patterned look-up table method to generate the correlation value between the GPS signals and the replica signals.

  • Gamut mapping is a technique that acts on cross-media color reproduction to transform a color between devices for the purpose of enhancing the appearance or preserving the appearance of an image. Gamut mapping essentially produces color conversion error which depends on the gamut mapping method, source and destination devices, and sample points for gamut modeling. For color space conversion between monitor colors and printer colors, empirical representation using sample measurements is currently widely utilized. Color samples are uniformly selected in the device space such as CMY or RGB, represented as color patches, and then measured. However, in the case of printer, these color samples are not evenly distributed inside the printer gamut and the color conversion error is increased. Accordingly, this paper introduces a equally distributed color sampling method in CIELAB space, a device- independent color space, to reduce color conversion error, and the performance is analyzed via color space conversion experiments using three-dimensional interpolation.

  • This paper addresses a new method for constructing surface representation of 3D structures from a sequence of tomographic cross-sectional images, Firstly, we propose cell-boundary representation by transforming the cuberille space into cell space. A cell-boundary representation consists of a set of boundary cells with their 1-voxel configurations, and can compactly describe binary volumetric data. Secondly, to produce external surface from the cell-boundary representation, we define 19 modeling primitives (MP) including volumetric, planar and linear groups. Surface polygons are created from those modeling primitives using a simple table look-up operation. Comparing with previous method such as Marching Cube or PVP algorithm, our method is robust and does not make any crack in resulting surface model. Hardware implementation is expected to be easy because our algorithm is simple(scan-line), efficient and guarantees data locality in computation time.

A Study on Efficient CNU Algorithm for High Speed LDPC decoding in DVB-S2 (DVB-S2 기반 고속 LDPC 복호를 위한 효율적인 CNU 계산방식에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, efficient CNU(Check Node Update) algorithms are analyzed for high speed LDPC decoding in DVB-S2 standard. In aspect to CNU methods, there are some kinds of CNU methods. Among of them, MP (Min Product) method is quite often used in LDPC decoding. However MP needs LUT (Look Up Table) that is critical path in LDPC decoding speed. A new SC-NMS (Self-Corrected Normalized Min-Sum) method is proposed in the paper. NMS needs only normalized scaling factor instead of LUT and compensates the overestimation of MP approximation. In addition, SC method is proposed. It gives a faster convergence toward a decoded codeword. If a message change its sign between two iterations, it is not reliable and to avoid to propagate noisy information, its module is set to 0. The performance of SC-NMS has a little degrade compare to MP by 0.1 dB, however considering computational complexity and decoding speed, SC-NMS algorithm is optimal method for CNU algorithm.

  • This paper presents the new control strategy that can minimizes the torque ripple by considering the magnetic nonlinearity and phase torque averlapping intervals, and describes the whole SRM drive system using proposed control method implemented by DSP(Digital Signal Processor). To do this, inductance and torque are, at first, measured according to the variation of rotor position angle while current is kept constant at predetermined several values. From these measured values, the entire inductance and torque for any current and rotor position are inferred by using neural network. And the waveform of the reference phase torque is determined for the torque ripple to be minimized considering the torque overlap between phases. The controller is designed for the actual torque obtained by the inferred torque look-up table using measured current and rotor position angle to track the predetermined reference phase torque by delta modulation technique. To perform a real time processing and ensure the reliability of the controller, DSP is implemented.

Simple Spectral Calibration Method and Its Application Using an Index Array for Swept Source Optical Coherence Tomography

  • In this study, we report an effective k-domain linearization method with a pre-calibrated indexed look-up table. The method minimizes k-domain nonlinear characteristics of a swept source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) system by using two arrays, a sample position shift index and an intensity compensation array. Two arrays are generated from an interference pattern acquired by connecting a Fabry-Perot interferometer (FPI) and an optical spectrum analyzer (OSA) to the system. At real time imaging, the sample position is modified by location movement and intensity compensation with two arrays for linearity of wavenumber. As a result of evaluating point spread functions (PSFs), the signal to noise ratio (SNR) is increased by 9.7 dB. When applied to infrared (IR) sensing card imaging, the SNR is increased by 1.29 dB and the contrast noise ratio (CNR) value is increased by 1.44. The time required for the linearization and intensity compensation is 30 ms for a multi thread method using a central processing unit (CPU) compared to 0.8 ms for compute unified device architecture (CUDA) processing using a graphics processing unit (GPU). We verified that our linearization method is appropriate for applying real time imaging of SS-OCT.

A Real-Time Hardware Architecture for Image Rectification Using Floating Point Processing (부동 소수점 연산을 이용한 실시간 영상 편위교정 FPGA 하드웨어 구조 설계)

  • This paper suggests a novel hardware architecture of a real-time rectification which is to remove vertical parallax of an image occurred in the pre-processing stage of stereo matching. As an off-line step, Matlab Toolbox which was designed by J.Y Bouguet, was used to calculate calibration parameter of the image. Then, based on the Heikkila and Silven's algorithm, rectification hardware was designed. At this point, to enhance the precision of the rectified image, floating-point unit was generated by using Xilinx Core Generator. And, we confirmed that proposed hardware design had higher precision compared to other designs while having the ability to do rectification in real-time.

FPGA Design and Realization for Scanning Image Enhancement using LUT Shading Correction Algorithm (LUT 쉐이딩 보정 알고리듬을 이용한 스캐닝 이미지 향상 FPGA 설계 구현)

  • This paper describes FPGA design and realization using the shading correction algorithm for a CCD scan image enhancement. The shading algorithm is used by LUT (Look-up Table). The image enhancement results from that the histogram minimum value and maximum with respect to all pixels of the CCD image should be extracted, and the shading LUT is constructed to keep constant histogram with offset data. The output of sensor be converted to corrected LUT image in preprocessing, and the converting system is realized by FPGA to be enabled to operate in real time. The result of the experimentation for the proposed system is showed to take the scanning time 2.4ms below. The system is presented to be based on a low speed processor system to scan enhanced images in real time and be guaranteed to be low cost.
