  • In this paper, one of the harbour maneuvering tests is described. Its goal is to investigate the so-called crabbing performance of ships. By crabbing is meant the ability of the vessel to move sideways with the use of her own maneuvering devices like propellers, rudders, transverse thruster, etc. the 3m ferry model is made by ocean engineering wide tank in the university of ulsan. when the model ship is leaving and going to the quay, Transverse forces and Yawing moments are measured, in the condition of zero longitudinal force and the design draught, by load cell attached to the longitudinal center of gravity on the ship. the purpose of the experiment is to verify the reliability of ocean wide tank in university of ulsan about crabbing test compared with results of foreign research institute.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of learning-related skills in kindergarten on school adjustment in first-grade children. Subjects were 119 kindergarten children. Instruments were Learning-Related Skill (Park, 2008) and School Adjustment (Chi & Jung, 2006). Statistical methods were Pearson product moment correlation coefficients and multiple regressions. Results of this study showed that : (1) there were positive relationships between learning-related skill in kindergarten and school adjustment in first-grade children. (2) Cognitive, behavioral, and affective learning-related skills in kindergarten were significant predictors of school adjustment in elementary school Conclusions suggest the importance of learning-related skills in kindergarten.

  • To analyze the effects compressive strength of concrete and longitudinal steel ratio on second-order moment of columns, 30tied rein reinforced concrete columns with hinged ends were tested. The 80mm square cross section was used and the amount of eccentricity was 24mm. The compressive strengths of column specimens with slenderness ratios of 10, 60, and 100were 250, 648 and 880kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$, and the longitudinal steel ratios were 1.98%(4-D6) and 3.95%(8-D6). The ratio of ultimate load capacity to that of short column with the same eccentricity (Pu/Pn) was much decreased at high slenderness ratio with increasing the compressive strength of concrete. And the lateral displacement of slender column at the ultimate load was decreased as the strength was increased. These are due to that at high slenderness ratio the load capacity and behavior of column are affected by flexural rigidity. And, it was also found that with increasing steel ratio, the value of Pu/Pn and the lateral displacement at the ultimate load were larger for the same slenderness ratio.

  • The present study gives an apprximate equation of circular cylindrical shell on the basis of Flugges's exact theory. The longitudinal bending moment .MU.$\_$x/ and circumferential strain .epsilon.$\_$.theta. are assumed to be small to be small and have been neglected. The governing equation of the cylindrical shell, which is generaly presented as 8th order partial differential equation, is reduced into a 4th order partial differential equation for axial coordinate. To verify the validity and accuracy of this approximate theory, the cantilever cylindrical shell subjected to a concentrated load is analyzed. The maximum errors of longitudinal stress and deflection are about 10 percent compared with the analysis by flugge's theory and are about 15 percent with experimental results.

  • An effective live load model for analyzing probable maximum live load effects such as moment and shear in transverse direction was developed. The main procedure of this live load model is composed of four parts, i.e., firstly, determination of the appropriate influence lines in longitudinal direction, secondly, application of the characteristics of vehicles and traffic patterns in longitudinal direction, thirdly, determination of the appropriate influence lines in transverse direction, and fourthly, application of the characteristics of vehicles and traffic patterns in transverse direction. Through this procedure, the probabilistic distributions of maximum probable load effects are deduced in the form of probability density function (PDF) and/or cumulative density function(CDF). This live load model is able to consider local or global deterioration of bridges in the structural analysis.

  • An effective live load model for analyzing probable maximum live load effects in longitudinal direction such as moment and shear was developed. The main procedure of this live load model is composed of two parts. Firstly, determination of the appropriate influence lines, and secondly, application of the characteristics of vehicles and traffic patterns. Through this procedure, probabilistic distributions of maximum probable load effects are deduced in the form of probability density function (PDF) or cumulative density function (CDF). The proposed live load model is not limited by bridge types(number of spans or girders) and can consider local or global deterioration of bridges in the analysis. Besides, load effects can be determined at any section without restrictions.

  • Lift, drag, pitching moment, what we call longitudinal aerodynamic coefficient, effects airplanes directly, so the method to find the accurate result quickly is an important factor from the beginning of the aircraft design. There are different ways to find aerodynamic coefficient such as empirical methods, numerical analysis methods, wind tunnel tests, and finally through an actual flight tests, but choosing the best methods depends on the due date or the cost. The accuracy varies on each design level, but all this methods have relationship to complement and balance each other, so by combining proper methods, the best result can be obtained. At this paper, empirical methods and numerical analysis method were experimented, compared, and reviewed to find the availability of each method and by combining two methods accurate result was obtained. So, we applied this methods to predict the aerodynamic coefficient on cruise configuration aircraft, and was able to obtain more accurate result on the low speed longitudinal aerodynamic coefficient. Also by watching there result, we are able to predict the errors before the actual wind tunnel test.

  • A nonlinear second-order analysis program that properly describes the nonlinear behavior of concrete was developed by using the layering technique. As the slenderness ratio of column is increased, the peaks of P-M curve lie remote from the section interaction diagram for the same eccentricities. But the peaks of P-M curve lie rather close to the section interaction diagram for very large eccentricities. In this study , the effects of compressive strength of concrete, longitudinal steel ratio, and yield strength of steel on second-order moment of concrete columns were analyzed. As the compressive strength of concrete and the yield strength of steel are increased, the ratio of peak axial force to maximum axial strength for concentrically loaded short column( Pu/Po) is decreased. But as the longitudinal steel ratio is increased, the ratio , Pu/Po increases.

  • The objective of this research is to evaluate of seismic performance for reinforced concrete bridge piers with lap splices of longitudinal reinforcement steels using predict of nonlinear hysteric behavior. For the purpose, analytical trilinear hysteretic model has been used to simulate the force displacement hysteretic curve of RC bridge piers under repeated reversal loads. The moment capacity and corresponding curvature in the plastic hinge have been determined, and the enhanced hysteretic behavior model by five different kinds of branches has been proposed for modeling the stiffness variation of RC section under cyclic loading. The strength and stiffness degradation index are introduced to compute the hysteretic curve vary confinement steel ratio. In addition, the modified curvature factor has been introduced to forecast of seismic performance of longitudinal steel lap spliced and retrofitted specimens.

  • This paper provides prediction of ultimate longitudinal strengths of hull girder of a VLCC considering probabilistic damage extents due to collision and grounding accidents based on IMO Guideline(2003). The probability density functions of damage extents are expressed as a function of nondimensional damage variables. The accumulated probability levels of 10%, 30%, 50%, and 70% are taken into account for the damage extent estimation. The ultimate strengths have been calculated using in-house software UMADS (Ultimate Moment Analysis of Damaged Ships) which is based on the progressive collapse method. Damage indices are provided for all heeling angles due to any possible flooding of compartments from $0^{\circ}$ to $180^{\circ}$ which represent from sagging to hogging conditions, respectively. The analysis results reveal that minimum damage indices show different values according to heeling angles and damage levels.
