  • A longitudinal study refers to a research method based on longitudinal data repeatedly measured on the same object. Most of the longitudinal analysis methods are suitable for prediction or inference, and are often not suitable for use in exploratory study. In this study, an exploratory method to analyze longitudinal data is presented, which is to find the longitudinal trajectory after determining the best number of clusters by clustering longitudinal data using self-organizing map technique. The proposed methodology was applied to the longitudinal data of the Employment Information Service, and a total of 2,610 samples were analyzed. As a result of applying the methodology to the actual data applied, time-series clustering results were obtained for each panel. This indicates that it is more effective to cluster longitudinal data in advance and perform multilevel longitudinal analysis.

  • This paper is to study the effect of longitudinal reinforcement ratios and axial deformation on the frame analysis in reinforced concrete(RC) columns and to investigate the effect of confined concrete core, the length-width ratio and longitudinal steel ratios on frame analysis in Concrete-Filled steel Tubular(CFT) columns. An equation if derived to evaluate the modulus of elasticity for core concrete. The 34 reference data have been collected for the purpose and are processed by the mean of a multiple regression analysis technique. The equation and longitudinal reinforcement ratios was applied to RC columns for structural analysis. Then, the difference of beam moment was identified. In general, the results of analysis was indicated reasonable differences in beam moment, in case of longitudinal reinforcement ratios applied to RC columns when compared with the plain concrete columns. In CFT columns the equation was also applied in order to the effect of confined concrete core on structural analysis. Beam moment was increased as volumetric ratio of lateral steel was decreased. The effect of longitudinal steel ratios was investigated in CFT columns and was confirmed beam moment variety. The result was appeared reasonable difference in beam moment as longitudinal steel was increased.

  • The issue of the longitudinal stability of a WIG vehicle has been a very critical design factor since the first experimental WIG vehicle has been built. A series of studies had been performed and focused on the longitudinal stability analysis. However, most studies focused on the longitudinal stability of WIG vehicle in cruise phase, and less is available on the longitudinal static stability requirement of WIG vehicle when hydrodynamics are considered: WIG vehicle usually take off from water. The present work focuses on stability requirement for longitudinal motion from taking off to landing. The model of dynamics for a WIG vehicle was developed taking into account the aerodynamic, hydrostatic and hydrodynamic forces, and then was analyzed. Following with the longitudinal static stability analysis, effect of hydrofoil was discussed. Locations of CG, aerodynamic center in pitch, aerodynamic center in height and hydrodynamic center in heave were illustrated for a stabilized WIG vehicle. The present work will further improve the longitudinal static stability theory for WIG vehicle.

  • Post-tensioned concrete voided slab girders are widely used in highway bridge constructions. To obtain greater section hollow rate and reduce the self-weight, the plate thickness of slab girders are designed to be small with the adoption of flat anchorage system. Since large prestress is applied to the anchor end section, it was found that longitudinal shear cracks are easy to occur along the voided slab girder. The reason is the existence of great shearing effect at the junction area between web and bottom (top) plate in the anchor end section. This paper focuses on the longitudinal anti-cracking problem at the anchor end of post-tensioned concrete voided slab girders. Two possible models for longitudinal anticracking analysis are proposed. Differential element analysis method is adopted to derive the solving formula of the critical cracking state, and then the practical analysis method for longitudinal anti-cracking is established. The influence of some factors on the longitudinal anti-cracking ability is studied. Results show that the section dimensions (thickness of bottom, web and top plate) and prestress eccentricity on web plate are the main factors that influence the anti-cracking ability. Moreover, the proposed method is applied into three engineering examples to make longitudinal anti-cracking verification for the girders. According to the verification results, the design improvements for these girders are determined.

  • The longitudinal vibration of an axially moving membrane is studied when the membrane has translating acceleration. The equation for the longitudinal vibration is linear and coupled, The equation for the longitudinal vibration are discretized by using the Galerkin approximation after they are transformed into the variational equations, i.e., the weak forms so that the admissible function can be used for the bases of the longitudinal deflection. With the discretized equations for the longitudinal vibration, the time responses are investigated by using newmark method.

  • This paper is concerned with a practical guide for the ultimate longitudinal strength assessments of ships' hull structure. Rigorous non-linear structural analysis for three tanker models has been carried out to examine the ultimate strength behavior. Formula of estimating the ultimate longitudinal strength has been proposed which is modified with the results of non-linear finite element analysis of hull girders. Computational reliability and accuracy of the large-scale non-linear finite element analysis and the proposed simplified formula are verified through comparing their results with that of 1/3 scale frigate model test and DNVs program. Additionally, the ultimate longitudinal strength for ten tanker models is compared with those by the method specified in the 2nd Draft of common structural rule for tankers, which is being developed by IACS.

  • Various methodologies for the genetic analysis of longitudinal data have been proposed and applied to data from large-scale genome-wide association studies (GWAS) to identify single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with traits of interest and to detect SNP-time interactions. We recently proposed a grid-based Bayesian mixed model for longitudinal genetic data and showed that our Bayesian method increased the statistical power compared to the corresponding univariate method and well detected SNP-time interactions. In this paper, we further analyze longitudinal obesity-related traits such as body mass index, hip circumference, waist circumference, and waist-hip ratio from Korea Association Resource data to evaluate the proposed Bayesian method. We first conducted GWAS analyses of cross-sectional traits and combined the results of GWAS analyses through a meta-analysis based on a trajectory model and a random-effects model. We then applied our Bayesian method to a subset of SNPs selected by meta-analysis to further discover SNPs associated with traits of interest and SNP-time interactions. The proposed Bayesian method identified several novel SNPs associated with longitudinal obesity-related traits, and almost 25% of the identified SNPs had significant p-values for SNP-time interactions.

  • The longitudinal instability (POGO) of the rocket should not be occurred during the whole flight time for the large class liquid propulsion system to complete a mission successfully. The longitudinal instability is caused by the resonance between the propulsion system and rocket structure in the low frequency range below 50Hz, ordinarily. We can consider various types of propulsion system in the early stage of rocket development. So the longitudinal instability analysis tool is needed for corresponding to each propulsion system. This article deals the generalized method applied to the analysis on the low frequency dynamic characteristics of various types of liquid propulsion system.

  • To improve the land use of urban, Construction of the circular steel column is required recently. The circular steel columns have a advantage for improving a load carrying rapacity as wall as reducing a effective section area. However, the circular steel columns under service load, such as earthquake, shows a tendency to cause local buckling and large deformation. To prevent these phenomena, use of longitudinal stiffeners is considered. The application of longitudinal stiffeners at the circular steel columns is expected to increase a load carrying capacity, buckling strength and seismic performance of circular steel column. However, increasing the loading carving rapacity of buckling which constructed the longitudinal stiffeners, was not investigated yet. Therefore it needs study on effect of longitudinal stiffener in pipe-section steel pier. In this study, the load rallying capacity of buckling of steel pier was investigated by using elastic-plastic finite element analysis considered geometrical and material non-linearity. Also, this study investigated the effect of longitudinal stiffeners on loading carrying capacity of buckling and the relationship between width and thickness of longitudinal stiffeners. And also, a Influence of longitudinal stiffeners on seismic performance of circular steel columns was investigated by numerical analysis

  • In longitudinal studies missing data are common and require a complicated analysis. There are two popular modeling frameworks, pattern mixture model (PMM) and selection models (SM) to analyze the missing data. We focus on the PMM and we also propose Bayesian pattern mixture models using generalized linear mixed models (GLMMs) for longitudinal binary data. Sensitivity analysis is used under the missing not at random assumption.
