For analyzing seismic performance of long-span bridge for multi-support excitation and preparing technically and efficiently for a variety of design demands, the new module on multiple excitation was built in a reliable non-linear analysis program(RCAHEST) by using Influence Line Method, and the study on structures was performed previously. Also, the result of the analysis through RCAHEST was compared and verified with commercial finite element analysis program SAP2000 by using the feature of Multi-Support Excitation. From these results, nonlinear time history analysis considering multi-support excitation was studied after designing FE model of Incheon cable-stayed bridge. It was proved that the maximum response of horizontal displacement decreased as the time delay was increasing at all nodes of bridge. And then the serviceability of analysis model was evaluated by performing ultimate analysis under changes in maximum acceleration of seismic load data.
The underwater positioning system is important in interpreting data that are acquired from towing vehicles such as the deep-sea camera (DSC) system. Currently, several acoustic positioning systems such as long baseline (LBL), short baseline (SBL), and ultra short baseline (USBL), are used for underwater positioning. The accurate position of DSC, however, could not be determined in a R/V Onnuri unequipped with any of these underwater positioning systems. As an alternative, the DSC position was estimated based on the topography of towing track and cable length in the cruises before 1999. The great uncertainties, however, were found in the areas of flat bottom topography. In the 2003 and 2004 cruises these uncertainties were reduced by calculating the position of DSC with the cable length and seafloor depth below the vessel. The Japanese cruises for Mn-nodule used a similar estimation method for the DSC positioning system with a CTD sensor. Although the latter can provide better information for the position of DSC, the USBL underwater positioning system is strongly recommended for establishing better positioning of DSC and other towing devices.
This research is focused on the development of GIS Diagnostic SYSTEM to prevent accidents beforehand by inspecting the internal defects of GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) which is a main power-facility for substations. GIS Diagnostic SYSTEM is categorized as 'Real time on-line test type' and 'Portable test type' depending on the types of testing, it uses PD(partial discharge) which mostly incurs in GIS internal defects, to inspect. As of now, mostly foreign equipments are imported for use due to the lack of the technology localization, and these are installed and operated on only some parts of highly-graded GIS power-facilities such as in 76skv or 345kv for its being expensive. Furthermore, other than foreign equipments being costly, it also has a weak point of very long unavailability in case of Diagnostic system break-down while using, because it takes a comparatively long period of corrective maintenance precesses. We have localized to develop personal real-time multi -functional GIS Diagnostic system which can test on all GIS power-facility comprehensively and economically therefore overcome all these problems mentioned above, a market expansion is expected from the decrease of price and replacing the import equipments in the future. As the equipment was developed to be Personal for the simple ways of installing and utilizing, it can be operated without any complex cable installation like other existing GIS Diagnostic system requires, therefore also decrease the cost of cable installation.

Despite the rapid development of sensors, structural health monitoring (SHM) still faces challenges in monitoring due to the degradation of devices and harsh environmental loads. These challenges can lead to measurement errors, missing data, or outliers, which can affect the accuracy and reliability of SHM systems. To address this problem, this study proposes a classification method that detects anomaly patterns in sensor data. The proposed classification method involves several steps. First, data scaling is conducted to adjust the scale of the raw data, which may have different magnitudes and ranges. This step ensures that the data is on the same scale, facilitating the comparison of data across different sensors. Next, informative features in the time and frequency domains are extracted and used as input for a deep neural network model. The model can effectively detect the most probable anomaly pattern, allowing for the timely identification of potential issues. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, it was applied to actual data obtained from a long-span cable-stayed bridge in China. The results of the study have successfully verified the proposed method's applicability to practical SHM systems for civil infrastructures. The method has the potential to significantly enhance the safety and reliability of civil infrastructures by detecting potential issues and anomalies at an early stage.

As an essential part of current industrial society, electric power energy is contantaly increasing in pace with the development of science and technology. In order to meet the demand of electric power, power facilities which take care of the higher voltage and bigger capacity is required. To produce and supply electric power on a sound basis the electric facilities should operate with reliability. To prevent disasters in advance, the high quality facilities should be manufactured, and a constant management should be done. When the power facilities cause accidents, the result is huge national deficits. Since the power facilities play a pivotal role in the key industry of national infrastructures of they should operate for a long time in maintaining a stable state, and the accidents can be prevented in advance. The lifetime of a power cable is considered to be 30 years at the time of manufacture, but in real fields, accidents of cable occur 8-12 years from the start of operation, resulting in a heavy loss of properties. In this paper, we will show that we have found out the cause and process of the deterioration of 22kV cable systems in operation. The result is that the process of deterioration does not follow the Weibull distribution only ; but rather, after the heat deterioration the Weibull distributed deterioration comes, then the cable is destroyed due to the partial discharge resulting from the Weibull distributed deterioration.
Modal identification of civil engineering structures based on ambient vibration measurement has been widely investigated in the past decades, and a variety of output-only operational modal identification methods have been proposed. However, vibration modes, even fundamental low-order modes, are not always identifiable for large-scale structures under ambient vibration excitation. The identifiability of vibration modes, deficiency in modal identification, and criteria to evaluate robustness of the identified modes when applying output-only modal identification techniques to ambient vibration responses were scarcely studied. In this study, the mode identifiability of the cable-stayed Ting Kau Bridge using ambient vibration measurements and the influence of the excitation intensity on the deficiency and robustness in modal identification are investigated with long-term monitoring data of acceleration responses acquired from the bridge under different excitation conditions. It is observed that a few low-order modes, including the second global mode, are not identifiable by common output-only modal identification algorithms under normal ambient excitations due to traffic and monsoon. The deficient modes can be activated and identified only when the excitation intensity attains a certain level (e.g., during strong typhoons). The reason why a few low-order modes fail to be reliably identified under weak ambient vibration excitations and the relation between the mode identifiability and the excitation intensity are addressed through comparing the frequency-domain responses under normal ambient vibration excitations and under typhoon excitations and analyzing the wind speeds corresponding to different response data samples used in modal identification. The threshold value of wind speed (generalized excitation intensity) that makes the deficient modes identifiable is determined.
Deficient modes that cannot be always identified from different sets of measurement data may exist in the application of operational modal analysis such as the stochastic subspace identification techniques in large-scale civil structures. Based on a recent work using the long-term ambient vibration measurements from an instrumented cable-stayed bridge under different wind excitation conditions, a benchmark problem is launched by taking the same bridge as a test bed to further intensify the exploration of mode identifiability. For systematically assessing this benchmark problem, a recently developed SSI algorithm based on an alternative stabilization diagram and a hierarchical sifting process is extended and applied in this research to investigate several sets of known and blind monitoring data. The evaluation of delicately selected cases clearly distinguishes the effect of traffic excitation on the identifiability of the targeted deficient mode from the effect of wind excitation. An additional upper limit for the vertical acceleration amplitude at deck, mainly induced by the passing traffic, is subsequently suggested to supplement the previously determined lower limit for the wind speed. Careful inspection on the shape vector of the deficient mode under different excitation conditions leads to the postulation that this mode is actually induced by the motion of the central tower. The analysis incorporating the tower measurements solidly verifies this postulation by yielding the prevailing components at the tower locations in the extended mode shape vector. Moreover, it is also confirmed that this mode can be stably identified under all the circumstances with the addition of tower measurements. An important lesson learned from this discovery is that the problem of mode identifiability usually comes from the lack of proper measurements at the right locations.
Modal identification based on ambient vibration data has attracted extensive attention in the past few decades. Since the excitation for ambient vibration tests is mainly from the environmental effects such as wind and traffic loading and no artificial excitation is applied, the signal to noise (s/n) ratio of the data acquired plays an important role in mode identifiability. Under ambient vibration conditions, certain modes may not be identifiable due to a low s/n ratio. This paper presents a study on the mode identifiability of an instrumented cable-stayed bridge with the use of acceleration response data measured by a long-term structural health monitoring system. A recently developed fast Bayesian FFT method is utilized to perform output-only modal identification. In addition to identifying the most probable values (MPVs) of modal parameters, the associated posterior uncertainties can be obtained by this method. Likewise, the power spectral density of modal force can be identified, and thus it is possible to obtain the modal s/n ratio. This provides an efficient way to investigate the mode identifiability. Three groups of data are utilized in this study: the first one is 10 data sets including six collected under normal wind conditions and four collected during typhoons; the second one is three data sets with wind speeds of about 7.5 m/s; and the third one is some blind data. The first two groups of data are used to perform ambient modal identification and help to estimate a critical value of the s/n ratio above which the deficient mode is identifiable, while the third group of data is used to perform verification. A couple of fundamental modes are identified, including the ones in the vertical and transverse directions respectively and coupled in both directions. The uncertainty and s/n ratio of the deficient mode are investigated and discussed. A critical value of the modal s/n ratio is suggested to evaluate the mode identifiability of the deficient mode. The work presented in this paper could provide a base for the vibration-based condition assessment in future.

Although model updating has been widely applied using a specific optimization algorithm with a single objective function using frequencies, mode shapes or frequency response functions, there are few studies that investigate hybrid optimization algorithms for real structures. Many of them did not take into account the sensitivity of the updating parameters to the model outputs. Therefore, in this paper, optimization algorithms and sensitivity analysis are applied for model updating of a real cable-stayed bridge, i.e., the Kien bridge in Vietnam, based on experimental data. First, a global sensitivity analysis using Morris method is employed to find out the most sensitive parameters among twenty surveyed parameters based on the outputs of a Finite Element (FE) model. Then, an objective function related to the differences between frequencies, and mode shapes by means of MAC, COMAC and eCOMAC indices, is introduced. Three metaheuristic algorithms, namely Gravitational Search Algorithm (GSA), Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm (PSO) and hybrid PSOGSA algorithm, are applied to minimize the difference between simulation and experimental results. A laboratory pipe and Kien bridge are used to validate the proposed approach. Efficiency and reliability of the proposed algorithms are investigated by comparing their convergence rate, computational time, errors in frequencies and mode shapes with experimental data. From the results, PSO and PSOGSA show good performance and are suitable for complex and time-consuming analysis such as model updating of a real cable-stayed bridge. Meanwhile, GSA shows a slow convergence for the same number of population and iterations as PSO and PSOGSA.

Heating cables, widely used in office buildings, factories, streets and railways, deteriorate in electrical insulation during operation. The insulation deterioration of heating cables leads to electric discharges that can cause electrical fires. With this background, this paper dealt with a condition monitoring technique for heating cables by the analysis of discharge signals to prevent electrical fires. Insulation deterioration was simulated using an arc generator specified in UL1699 under AC operation, and the characteristic and propagation of discharge signals were analyzed on a 100 meter-long heating cable. Discharge signals produced by insulation deterioration were detected as a voltage pulse because they are as small as a few mV and they are attenuated through propagation path. The frequency spectrum of discharge signals mainly existed in the range from 70 kHz to 110 kHz, and the maximum attenuation of the signal was 84.8% at 100 meters away from the discharge point. Based on the experimental results, a monitoring device, which is composed of a high pass filter with the cut-off frequency of 70 kHz, a comparator, a wave shaper and a microprocessor, was designed and fabricated. Also, an algorithm was designed to discriminate the discharge signal in the presence of noise, compared with the pulse repetition period and the number of pulse counts per 100ms. In the experiment, the result showed that the prototype monitoring device could detect and discriminate the discharge signals produced at every discharge point on a heating cable.
