  • Purpose - The cosmetics industry is a traditional high value-added industry in terms of the domestic demand, small batch production systems, exclusive competition, and raw materials highly dependent on overseas countries as well as an oligopolistic market structure. However, new foreign brands and growing consumer awareness of inexpensive products, has triggered a shift. In line with changing lifestyles and the polarization of consumption, the industry faces a new market structure. Among its key characteristics is the cosmetics industry's numerous distribution channels (i.e., department stores, door-to-door sales, online shopping malls, brand shops, and discount stores). Therefore, the study of its distribution channels is essential. Research design, data, and methodology - The study analyzed channel distribution power divided into coercive and non-coercive power. The factors of coercive power included: unilateral request of an increase in commissions, interference in sales by taking advantage of a superior status, unilateral buck-passing at the time of a problem, unilateral request to stop sales activities, and a unilateral business contract; the factors of non-coercive power included favorable payment conditions, offers of various kinds of information, policy on commission reduction, pride in market entrance, and promotion support. In addition, the mediating variable "interdependence" was applied to the execution of department store (or mart) power and their shop conflicts and satisfaction to examine direct and indirect influential power. The methodology was a survey of managers of cosmetics shops in department stores (or marts). The questionnaire, based on a five-point Likert scale, included questions about basic personal information, execution of power, interdependence, conflict, and satisfaction. The study distributed 198 questionnaires and collected 131. Ten questionnaires with missing or hard to analyze data were excluded. Thus, 121 copies were analyzed. Results - According to the analysis, the execution of coercive power by department stores (or marts) did not affect interdependence, but the execution of non-coercive power did. Interdependence did not influence conflict, but did affect satisfaction. Additionally, the analysis revealed direct influential power: the execution of coercive power positively affected conflict and negatively influenced satisfaction; the execution of non-coercive power positively affected satisfaction. Conclusions - To offer suggestions for distribution business relations in the cosmetics industry, this study investigated how the execution of power by department stores (or marts) affected their shops. More specifically, it examined how much the execution of both coercive power and non-coercive power influenced conflict and satisfaction, and analyzed the mediating role of interdependence. In line with previous study results in various areas, coercive power was shown to be the source of conflict, leading to a decrease in satisfaction, whereas non-coercive power significantly positively influenced satisfaction. Moreover, non-coercive power increased interdependence, which led to greater satisfaction. As a result, interdependence had a mediating effect on non-coercive power and satisfaction. Based on the results, department stores (or marts) should look for improvements plans that increase interdependence. Such plans could alleviate conflict with the shops, increasing their satisfaction.

  • With rapid development of IT technology and biotechnology, human lifespan is extended rapidly, and we are living in the era where aging becomes the social issue. Due to this aging problem, manpower is mainly replaced by Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV) in manufacturing factories or warehouse logistics transportation. Rate of AGV use increases sharply every year. AGVs, which were used only in Smart Factories, extends its usage into indoor and outdoor operation by changing their usages to container transportation that can carry huge containers in the harbor. With the expansion of AGVs usage, the importance of RCS (Remote Control System) is also increased. In this study, we surveyed and analyzed the characteristics and technology trends of technical features of AGV's RCS that are developing in various ways to establish quality evaluation system of AGV RCS. Based on this, and by referring to international quality assessment standards, ISO/IEC 25000 series, we derived evaluation items on functional suitability and usability to secure reliability of AGV RCS. Also, it is our intention to develop evaluation model using those derived usability and reliability evaluation items.

  • The study suggested a method to improve analysis accuracy such that the interactive effects of transportation changes between outside and inside of sub-areas were sequentially considered in the analysis by linking a macroscopic network analysis and a microscopic traffic simulation. A dynamic O/D estimation method was developed for practical implement of sub-area microscopic simulation analysis by using the results of macroscopic network analysis, the results of selected link analysis at the cordon line of the sub-area, departure time data of household travel survey, timely observed traffic volume data at the cordon. This estimated dynamic O/D for the sub-area made it possible to analyze traffic phenomena in details. Various detailed phenomena such as traffic queues, delay at intersection, and conflicts between vehicles, which is impossible to be grasped through a macroscopic analysis, can be analyzed with the dynamic microscopic traffic analysis. Through implementing an empirical study and validation, the study provided a reference result about accuracy of a microscopic traffic simulation of a sub-area to help its application for real transportation policy analysis.

  • This study aims to review whether climbing lane installment is needed by analyzing the impact that standard trucks have on traffic according to vertical alignment at SMART highway, and if climbing lanes are required to propose truck speed change curves based on slope length. We used VISSIM simulation model to obtain the speed change of the standard truck on uphill roads. The standard truck on climbing lanes was set for 100kg/kW (170lb/hp) with the entry speeds set and analyzed by 90, 100, and 110 km/h considering the future speed limit of trucks. The results of the research show that under SMART highway circumstance, the 1 and 2% vertical alignment is not needed at the climbing lane but 3% vertical alignment is necessary. In order to install the climbing lane at 3% vertical alignment, the speed change curve of truck depending on slope length of 90, 100, and 110km/h of entry speed is proposed.

  • The population over 65 years old is 12.7% of total population in 2014 and Korea is going to be an aged society in the near future. The transportation vulnerable including the aged should be guaranteed in walking mobility under safe and comfortable environment for their socio-economic activities. For the era of fusion and convergence this paper investigated the characteristics of walking accidents related to the aged pedestrians and analyzed the aged-oriented walking factors with a reaction time and a walking speed at crosswalks in Yeosu. In the results, the crashes for the aged occur at 9.9% of total crashes and the fatalities of the aged are 40.3% of total fatalities in 2014. The 47.4% of the aged fatalities is also attributed to vehicle-to-pedestrian accidents. The 49.3% of all pedestrian fatalities occurs at the aged pedestrians with a very high proportion. The reaction time and walking speed for the aged were determined as the values located at the lower 15%-tile of the elderly physical ability. It is shown that the reaction time is 4.56 seconds and the walking speed is 0.76 m/s in the case of Yeosu. From two factors' standpoint, the walking environment at crosswalks in Yeosu is inappropriate for the aged.

  • Although growth potential of trade between Korea and the GCC region has existed in various fields through economic and business cooperation, few data and practical study related with trade structure and cooperation between Korea and GCC region have been found and the potential for further economic expansion has not been extensively explored. In this sense, this study is to analyze trade flows between Korea and GCC region countries(Saudi Arabia, Unites Arab Emirates, Qatar) using trade intensity index, trade complementarity index and special country bias index, identify potential for further expansion of Korea's trade into the GCC region and further propose the implication of FTA between mutual countries. Our analysis of trade flows also demonstrates that there is a high level of trade complementarity between Korea and GCC region. It means that increase of trade complementarity and special country bias come from removing not only trade barrier and increasing but also capital movement. Especially, the study reveals that there is an untapped potential for Korea to increase its exports to Saudi, based on the highest complementarities. Export expansion between Korea and Saudi through FTA will create new opportunity in near future.

  • Mobile phone-related industries have been mainly concentrated on attracting the new customers and increasing the market share such as for the aggressive marketing activities, but it is the time to find an effective strategy to preserve existing customers since the mobile phone market had already reached the saturation. In this study, the properties of mobile phone that influence on the choice of handset and telecom company were analyzed. General properties of respondents were explored and the mobile phone properties were grouped by common factors. And analyzed the effect of factors on customer satisfaction with structural equation model. 10.4% of respondents are used their handset more than two years and 48.7% wanted to purchase other manufacturer's handset if they repurchase mobile phone. These results might come form the fact that the life cycle of mobile phone become shorter by the heating competition in mobile phone market and, to some degree, the influence of smart phone which recently become globally popular. Four factors, 'Hardware Quality', 'Practicality', 'Convergence Functions' and 'Level of Awareness', are induced from the mobile phone properties. In Structural Equation Model analysis, 'Hardware Quality' and 'Practicality' have significant and positive effects on Customer Satisfaction. But, 'Awareness' such as brand and trend appeared quite less influence on the customer satisfaction.

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze the efficiency of on-off-line integrated operations of listed retailers, propose ways to identify and improve the problems of inefficient enterprises, and accelerate the integration of on-off-line. The 28 listed retail companies selected total capital, management expenses, number of employees and wage rates as input factors as of 2018 and total operating income and operating profit were selected as output indicators to analyze efficiency using DEA. The results show that the integrated enterprise has a higher overall level of operational efficiency, but it is still in a state of stagnation. The pure technical efficiency of the integrated enterprise is generally higher, and the scale efficiency is the main reason that the overall efficiency of the enterprise is not improved. This study can help retail companies adjust their development strategies of online and offline integration according to their own degree of online and offline integration. This study has limitations in explaining the change in efficiency of retailers by conducting a cross-sectional analysis using data limited to 2018. It is necessary to utilize data over the next several years to conduct a longitudinal analysis.
