  • Although the forest accounts in Korea have been constructed partly as the research projects since the mid-1990s, the framework of the accounts has not yet been established. The objective of this study is to provide the physical asset accounts of forested land and forest stock based on the system of integrated environmental economic accounts(SEEA) by utilizing the restructured 2004 statistical yearbook of forestry in Korea. In 2004 yearbook, new variables such as logging area and volumes are added. The logging area and volumes play important roles in constructing forest accounts because the basic structure of the physical asset accounts are composed of the opening stock, closing stock, and the changes between the two. The changes between the opening and closing stock are largely explained by the harvest. In forest accounts, in general, the main elements for the increase in stock are afforestation and reforestation while the main cause for the decrease is logging. In this study we separate the logging into natural or man-made causes. In addition, other useful information for the status of forest is recorded in an annex even if it is not necessary element in the account table. According to the forested land asset accounts generated with 2003 data, the logging area is larger than the reforestation area, and the total forested land is decreased. The logging volume is 0.4% of the total stock volume, and the planed logging volume is more than 3 times larger than the damaged logging volume. The damaged logging volumes by man-made causes is about $300,000m^3$, and it is much than that of natural causes, which is about $55,000m^3$.

  • The causal message logging is a low-cost technique of building a distributed system that can tolerate process crash failures. Previous research in causal message logging protocol assumes that the number of processes in a fault-tolerant system is fixed. This assumption makes all processes modify their data structures when a new process is added or an existing process terminates. However, the proposed approach in this paper allows to each process retain identifiers of only the communicating processes instead of all processes. This mechanism enables the fault-tolerant system to operate at many different scales. Using this mechanism, we develop a new algorithm that can be adapted for recovery in existing causal message logging protocols. Our recovery algorithm is 1) a distributed technique which does not require recovery leader, 2) a nonblocking protocol which does not force live processes to block while recovery is in progress, and 3) a novel mechanism which can tolerate failures of an arbitrary number of processes. Earlier causal message logging protocols lack one or more of the above properties.

  • Compared with the previous recovery algorithms for causal message logging, Elnozahy's recovery algerian considerably reduces the number of stable storage accesses and enables live processes to execute their computations continuously while performing its recovery procedure. However, if causal message logging is used with asynchronous checkpointing, the state of the system may be inconsistent after having executed this algorithm in case of concurrent failures. In this paper, we show these inconsistent cases and propose a low-cost recovery algorithm for causal message logging to solve the problem. To ensure the system consistency, this algorithm allows the recovery leader to obtain recovery information from not only the live processes, but also the other recovering processes. Also, the proposed algorithm requires no extra message compared with Elnozahy's one and its additional overhead incurred by message piggybacking is significantly low. To demonstrate this, simulation results show that the first only increases about 1.0%$\sim$2.1% of the recovery information collection time compared with the latter.

  • This study was aimed at suggest a proper logging method of mountain forest using geographic information system(GIS) based on digital terrain model(DTM) in the National Forest at Mt. Kumsan in Namhae-gun, Gyungsangnam-do, which has about 2,948 ha in area. The areal percentage of 201 to 250m in the elevation was about 15.5%, elevation of 251 to 300m was 14.5%, and 78.75% for higher than 400m. The accumulated areal percentage of below 30% in the gradient was 17.2%, and 81.0% for steeper than 60%. The area for tractor skidding was 17.2%(511.7ha), the area for tractor attached winch skidding was 63.8%(1,896.3ha) and 18.4%(545.5ha) for cable yarding. It is important to choose the proper logging machines for timber harvesting. In general, the selection of logging operation system was affected several major environmental factors like as terrain conditions(slope gradient, slope length) and stand factors. The rate of middle slope gradients in terrain conditions showed higher than that of steep slope gradients in this area. Therefore, it considered that the logging operation system in this area could apply to tractor+winch operating machine according to terrain conditions.

  • The targets for the traditional IT management solutions has been mostly systems (server) and networks. Such that management system for system and network, SMS and NMS respectively, used be the IT management solutions. Now the speed of hardware improvement is faster than ever, the performance improvement scope is shifting from hardware towards software. Therefore, it is not arguable that the business success depends on the efficient and optimized application performance management. There are many different approaches are developed in the application performance management, but in this study, API-based logging system that most efficiently visualizes the correlation of call and response between Components and enables active performance management for monitoring real-time applications operation status and resolving the problems and failures quickly.

  • This paper presents an efficient stable logging scheme for the distributed shared memory system based on the lazy release consistent memory model. In the proposed scheme, inter-process dependency is traced and stable logging is performed when the dependency relation between processes actually happens. With the dependency tracking, the proposed scheme requires much less frequency of stable logging, comparing with the previous schemes in which stable logging is performed whenever any information transfer happens between processes. Also, in the proposed scheme, every data item accessed by a process is not logged, but only the access information is logged in the stable storage. For the recovery from a failure, the correct version of the accessed data items can be effectively traced by using the logged access information. As a result, the amount of logged information is also reduced.

  • Automation control and the data for control of industrial equipment for the diagnosis and prediction is a key to success in the 4th industrial revolution. It increases process efficiency and productivity through data collection, realtime monitoring, and the data analysis. However, university and research environment are still suffering from logging the data in manual way, and we occasionally loss the equipment data logging due to the lack of automatic data logging system. State variable presents the current condition of the equipment operation which is closely related to process result, and it is valuable to monitor and analyze the data for the equipment health monitoring. In this paper, we demonstrate the collection of equipment state variable data via programmable logic controller (PLC) and the visualization of the collected data over the Web access supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA). Test vehicle for the implementation of the suggested SCADA system is a relay switched physical vapor deposition system in the university environment.

  • Development of structures such as slope and tunnel, waste disposal, oil and LPG storages, and underground power house and so on, is increasing with the year. The method for appropriate estimation of rock state such as fresh or damaged rocks is also requested with increasing structural development. On these purposes, seismic logging system, which is a simple and easy way for handling as well as small and light, has been developed. Seismic logging method is one of logging tests, which is able to evaluate the state of rock mass with various shapes and is possible to obtain the relatively accuracy data at situ state. In addition, seismic logging method is at to apply to estimate structural behavior, before and after support installed. According to the results obtained from this study, firstly, it is clear that the extent of damage in rock slope due to blasting is able to be evaluated with quantity using seismic logging method, moreover to decide the damage zone in rock slope reasonably. Secondly, it is expected that installing depth of support is able to be decided more effectively and economically, using the results of seismic logging data. Finally, seismic logging method is also able to be applied safety supervision of structures, before and after support installed.

  • Care should be taken when performing the P and S wave velocity loggings. Some of them are the effect of casing that is installed to prevent the borehole collapsing when the drilling is done on the loose ground such as soil and/or soft rock, and the discrepancy of the velocities of the same media according to the difference of the source wave frequency spectrum. To overcome these difficulties, the following suggestions are recommended; (1) try a careful drilling technique that can eliminate the necessity of the casing, and (2) apply the logging methods with the proper frequency spectrum that is appropriate to the object of the velocity logging.
