  • The lock-in thermography was employed to evaluate the defects in railway bogies. Prior to the actual application on railway bogies, in order to assess the detectability of known flaws, the calibration reference panel was prepared with various dimensions of artificial flaws. The panel was composed of polymer matrix composites, which were the same material with actual bogies. Through lock-in thermography evaluation, the optimal frequency of heat source was determined for the best flaw detection. Based on the defects information, the actual defect assessments on railway bogie were conducted with different types of railway bogies, which were used for the current operation. In summary, it was found that the novel infrared thermography technique could be an effective way for the inspection and the detection of surface defects on bogies since the infrared thermography method provided rapid and non-contact investigation of railway bogies.

  • Islanding detection is one of the most important issues for the distributed generation (DG) systems connected to the power grid. The conventional passive islanding detection methods inherently have a non-detection zone (NDZ), and active islanding detection methods may deteriorate the power quality of a power system. This paper proposes a novel hybrid islanding detection method based on Digital Lock-In Amplifier with no NDZ by monitoring the harmonics present in the grid. Proposed method detects islanding by passively monitoring the grid voltage harmonics and verify it by injecting small perturbation for only three-line cycles. Unlike FFT for the harmonic extraction, DLA HC have lower computational burden, moreover, DLA can monitor harmonic in real time, whereas, FFT has certain propagation delay. The simulation results are presented to highlight the effectiveness of the proposed technique. In order to prove the performance of the proposed method it is compared with several passive islanding detection methods. The experimental results confirm that the proposed method exhibits outstanding performance as compared to the conventional methods.

  • Vehicle dynamics control systems are. complex and non-linear, so they have difficulties in developing a controller for the anti-lock braking systems and the auto-traction systems. Currently the fuzzy-logic technique to estimate the absolute vehicle speed is good results in normal conditions. But the estimation error in severe braking is discontented. In this paper, we estimate the absolute vehicle speed by using the wheel speed data from standard 50-tooth anti-lock braking system wheel speed sensors. Radial symmetric basis function of the neural network model is proposed to implement and estimate the absolute vehicle speed, and principal component analysis on input data is used. Ten algorithms are verified experimentally to estimate the absolute vehicle speed and one of those is perfectly shown to estimate the vehicle speed with a 4% error during a braking maneuver.

  • A conventional contact type brake system which uses a hydraulic system has mny Problems such as time delay response due to pressure build-up, brake pad wear due to contact movement, bulky size, and low braking performance in high speed region. As vehicle speed increases, a more powerful brake system is required to ensure vehicle safety and reliability. In this work, a contactless brake system of an eddy current type is proposed to overcome problems. Optimal torque control which minimizes a braking distance is investigated with a scaled-down model of an eddy current type brake. It is possible to realize optimal torque control when a maximum friction coefficient (or desired slip ratio) corresponding to road condition is maintained. Braking force analysis for a scaled-down model is done theoretically and experimentally compensated. To accomplish optimal torque control of an eddy current type brake system, a sliding mode control technique which is, one of the robust nonlinear control technique is developed. Robustness of the sliding mode controller is verified by investigating the braking performance when friction coefficient is varied. Simulation and experimental results will be presented to show that it has superior performance compared to the conventional method.

  • Optical 60 ㎓ millimeter-wave (MMW) signal generation is demonstrated using the sideband injection-locking method in the master/slave configuration, where two slave lasers are locked to two among several side-bands produced by the direct rf-modulation of a master laser. These two locked slave laser outputs beat against each other in the photo-detector and produce stable and very pure 60 ㎓ signals.

  • This paper describes a Delay Locked Loop (DLL) with low supply voltage and wide lock range for Synchronous DRAM which employs Double Data Rate (DDR) technique for faster data transmission. To obtain high resolution and fast lock-on time, a new type of phase detector is designed. The new counter and lock indicator structure are suggested based on the Dual-clock dual-data Flip Flop (DCDD FF). The DCDD FF reduces the size of counter and lock indicator by about 70%. The delay line is composed of coarse and fine units. By the use of fast phase detector, the coarse delay line can detect minute phase difference of 0.2 nsec and below. Aided further by the new type of 3-step vernier fine delay line, this DLL circuit achieves unprecedented timing resolution of 25psec. This DLL spans wide locking range from 500MHz to 500MHz and generates high-speed clocks with fast lock-on time of less than 5 clocks. When designed using 0.25 um CMOS technology with 1.8V supply voltage, the circuit consumes 32mA at 500MHz locked condition. This circuit can be also used for other applications as well, such as synchronization of high frequency communication systems.

  • The pattern locking technique applied to smart phones is a locking technique that many people use conveniently. However, the safety of pattern locking techniques is very low compared with other techniques. The pattern locking technique is vulnerable to a shoulder surfing attack, which is based on the user's input and can be interpreted by looking at the movement of the shoulder, and the smudge attack is also vulnerable due to fingerprint drag marks remaining on the mobile phone pad. Therefore, in this paper, we want to add a new security method to check the pressed time by using a thread in the pattern locking scheme to secure the vulnerability. It is divided into short, middle, and long click according to the pressing time at each point. When dragging using the technique, security performance enhances $3^n$ tiems. Therefore, even if dragging in the same 'ㄱ' manner, it becomes a completely different pattern depending on the pressing time at each point.

  • Repeated pulling-out of a suture anchor in the lateral row despite repeated attempts at insertion during a rotator cuff repair is not uncommon with the suture-bridge technique, especially in patients with osteoporosis. We describe a simple procedure for dealing with the pull-out of a PushLock anchor in the lateral row using a suture anchor with a suture eyelet during rotator cuff repair applying the suture-bridge technique.
