If one can infer the residential area of SNS users by analyzing the SNS big data, it can be an alternative by replacing the spatial big data researches which result from the location sparsity and ecological error. In this study, we developed the way of utilizing the daily life activity pattern, which can be found from timeline data of tweet users, to infer the residential areas of tweet users. We recognized the daily life activity pattern of tweet users from user's movement pattern and the regional cognition words that users text in tweet. The models based on user's movement and text are named as the daily movement pattern model and the daily activity field model, respectively. And then we selected the variables which are going to be utilized in each model. We defined the dependent variables as 0, if the residential areas that users tweet mainly are their home location(HL) and as 1, vice versa. According to our results, performed by the discriminant analysis, the hit ratio of the two models was 67.5%, 57.5% respectively. We tested both models by using the timeline data of the stress-related tweets. As a result, we inferred the residential areas of 5,301 users out of 48,235 users and could obtain 9,606 stress-related tweets with residential area. The results shows about 44 times increase by comparing to the geo-tagged tweets counts. We think that the methodology we have used in this study can be used not only to secure more location data in the study of SNS big data, but also to link the SNS big data with regional statistics in order to analyze the regional phenomenon.
Recently, the recommendation system has attracted the attention of users as customized recommendation services have been provided focusing on fashion, video and music. But these services are difficult to provide users with proper service according to many different contexts because they do not use contextual information emerging in real time. When applied contextual information expands dimensions, it also increases data sparsity and makes it impossible to recommend proper music for users. Trying to solve these problems, our study proposed a music recommendation system to recommend proper music in real time by applying association rules and using relationships and rules about the current location and time information of users. The accuracy of the recommendation system was measured according to location and time information through 5-fold cross validation. As a result, it was found that the accuracy of the recommendation system was improved as contextual information accumulated.
Point-of-Interest(POI) recommendation systems suggest the most interesting POIs to users considering the current location and time. With the rapid development of smartphones, internet-of-things, and location-based social networks, it has become feasible to accumulate huge amounts of user POI visits. Therefore, instant recommendation of interesting POIs at a given time is being widely recognized as important. To increase the performance of POI recommendation systems, several studies extracting users' POI sequential preference from POI check-in data, which is intended for implicit feedback, have been suggested. However, when constructing a model utilizing sequential preference, the model encounters possibility of data distortion because of a low number of observed check-ins which is attributed to intensified data sparsity. This paper suggests refinement of temporal intervals based on data confidence. When building a POI recommendation system using temporal intervals to model the POI sequential preference of users, our methodology reduces potential data distortion in the dataset and thus increases the performance of the recommendation system. We verify our model's effectiveness through the evaluation with the Foursquare and Gowalla dataset.

Nowadays with the help of Location-Based Social Networks (LBSNs), users of Point-of-Interest (POI) recommendation service in LBSNs are able to publish their geo-tagged information and physical locations in the form of sign-ups and share their experiences with friends on POI, which can help users to explore new areas and discover new points-of-interest, and promote advertisers to push mobile ads to target users. POI recommendation service in LBSNs is attracting more and more attention from all over the world. Due to the sparsity of users' activity history data set and the aggregation characteristics of sign-in area, conventional recommendation algorithms usually suffer from low accuracy. To address this problem, this paper proposes a new recommendation algorithm based on a novel Preference-Content-Region Model (PCRM). In this new algorithm, three kinds of information, that is, user's preferences, content of the Point-of-Interest and region of the user's activity are considered, helping users obtain ideal recommendation service everywhere. We demonstrate that our algorithm is more effective than existing algorithms through extensive experiments based on an open Eventbrite data set.

In this paper, Ulta-WideBand (UWB) channel measurement and modeling based on compressive sampling (CS) are proposed. The sparsity of the channel impulse response (CIR) of the UWB signal in frequency domain enables the proposed channel measurement to have a low-complexity and to provide a comparable performance compared with the existing approaches especially used for the indoor geo-localization purpose. Furthermore, to improve the performance under noisy situation, the soft thresholding method is also investigated in solving the optimization problem for signal recovery of CS. Via numerical results, the proposed channel measurement and modeling are evaluated with the real measured data in terms of location estimation error, bandwidth, and compression ratio for indoor geo-localization using UWB system.

POI refers to the point of Interest in Location-Based Social Networks (LBSNs). With the rapid development of mobile devices, GPS, and the Web (web2.0 and 3.0), LBSNs have attracted many users to share their information, physical location (real-time location), and interesting places. The tremendous demand of the user in LBSNs leads the recommendation systems (RSs) to become more widespread attention. Recommendation systems assist users in discovering interesting local attractions or facilities and help social network service (SNS) providers based on user locations. Therefore, it plays a vital role in LBSNs, namely POI recommendation system. In the machine learning model, most of the training data are stored in the centralized data storage, so information that belongs to the user will store in the centralized storage, and users may face privacy issues. Moreover, sharing the information may have safety concerns because of uploading or sharing their real-time location with others through social network media. According to the privacy concern issue, the paper proposes a recommendation model to prevent user privacy and eliminate traditional RS problems such as cold-start and data sparsity.

In this paper, we propose a hybrid method of Machine Learning (ML) algorithm and a rule-based algorithm to implement a lightweight Named Entity (NE) extraction system for Korean SMS text. NE extraction from Korean SMS text is a challenging theme due to the resource limitation on a mobile phone, corruptions in input text, need for extension to include personal information stored in a mobile phone, and sparsity of training data. The proposed hybrid method retaining the advantages of statistical ML and rule-based algorithms provides fully-automated procedures for the combination of ML approaches and their correction rules using a threshold-based soft decision function. The proposed method is applied to Korean SMS texts to extract person's names as well as location names which are key information in personal appointment management system. Our proposed system achieved 80.53% in F-measure in this domain, superior to those of the conventional ML approaches.
This study proposes a novel recommender system using the structural hole analysis to reflect qualitative and emotional information in recommendation process. Although collaborative filtering (CF) is known as the most popular recommendation algorithm, it has some limitations including scalability and sparsity problems. The scalability problem arises when the volume of users and items become quite large. It means that CF cannot scale up due to large computation time for finding neighbors from the user-item matrix as the number of users and items increases in real-world e-commerce sites. Sparsity is a common problem of most recommender systems due to the fact that users generally evaluate only a small portion of the whole items. In addition, the cold-start problem is the special case of the sparsity problem when users or items newly added to the system with no ratings at all. When the user's preference evaluation data is sparse, two users or items are unlikely to have common ratings, and finally, CF will predict ratings using a very limited number of similar users. Moreover, it may produces biased recommendations because similarity weights may be estimated using only a small portion of rating data. In this study, we suggest a novel limitation of the conventional CF. The limitation is that CF does not consider qualitative and emotional information about users in the recommendation process because it only utilizes user's preference scores of the user-item matrix. To address this novel limitation, this study proposes cluster-indexing CF model with the structural hole analysis for recommendations. In general, the structural hole means a location which connects two separate actors without any redundant connections in the network. The actor who occupies the structural hole can easily access to non-redundant, various and fresh information. Therefore, the actor who occupies the structural hole may be a important person in the focal network and he or she may be the representative person in the focal subgroup in the network. Thus, his or her characteristics may represent the general characteristics of the users in the focal subgroup. In this sense, we can distinguish friends and strangers of the focal user utilizing the structural hole analysis. This study uses the structural hole analysis to select structural holes in subgroups as an initial seeds for a cluster analysis. First, we gather data about users' preference ratings for items and their social network information. For gathering research data, we develop a data collection system. Then, we perform structural hole analysis and find structural holes of social network. Next, we use these structural holes as cluster centroids for the clustering algorithm. Finally, this study makes recommendations using CF within user's cluster, and compare the recommendation performances of comparative models. For implementing experiments of the proposed model, we composite the experimental results from two experiments. The first experiment is the structural hole analysis. For the first one, this study employs a software package for the analysis of social network data - UCINET version 6. The second one is for performing modified clustering, and CF using the result of the cluster analysis. We develop an experimental system using VBA (Visual Basic for Application) of Microsoft Excel 2007 for the second one. This study designs to analyzing clustering based on a novel similarity measure - Pearson correlation between user preference rating vectors for the modified clustering experiment. In addition, this study uses 'all-but-one' approach for the CF experiment. In order to validate the effectiveness of our proposed model, we apply three comparative types of CF models to the same dataset. The experimental results show that the proposed model outperforms the other comparative models. In especial, the proposed model significantly performs better than two comparative modes with the cluster analysis from the statistical significance test. However, the difference between the proposed model and the naive model does not have statistical significance.

The explosive growth of information has been difficult for users to get an appropriate information in time. The various ways of new services to solve problems has been provided. As customized service is being magnified, the personalized recommendation system has been important issue. Collaborative filtering system in the recommendation system is widely used, and it is the most successful process in the recommendation system. As the recommendation is based on customers' profile, there can be sparsity and cold-start problems. In this paper, we propose personalized movie recommendation system using collaborative filtering techniques and context-based techniques. The context-based technique is the recommendation method that considers user's environment in term of time, emotion and location, and it can reflect user's preferences depending on the various environments. In order to utilize the context-based technique, this paper uses the human emotion, and uses movie reviews which are effective way to identify subjective individual information. In this paper, this proposed method shows outperforming existing collaborative filtering methods.
