  • In this paper, an interchannel interference (ICI) and symbol error probability for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) on the two-ray fading environment are obtained analytically. From the analysis results, it is found that the ICI is a Gaussian random variable and its variance depends on the subchannel location, normalized time delay, and the number of subchannels. In addition, the OFDM signal without guard interveal is found to yield an irreducible error even at high signal to noise ratio due to the ICI.

  • The use of a low-frequency cave radio can also verify survey accuracy. A receiving unit on the surface can pinpoint the depth and location of a transmitter in a cave passage by measurement of the geometry of its radio waves. A survey over the surface from the receiver back to the cave entrance forms an artificial loop with the underground survey, whose loop-closure error can then be determined. In the past, caves were reluctant to redraw complex cave maps after detecting survey errors. Today, computer cartography can automatically redraw cave maps after data has been corrected.

  • A data-adaptive order selection procedure is proposed for local polynomial nonparametric regression. For each given polynomial order, bias and variance are estimated and the adaptive polynomial order that has the smallest estimated mean squared error is selected locally at each location point. To estimate mean squared error, empirical bias estimate of Ruppert (1995) and local polynomial variance estimate of Ruppert, Wand, Wand, Holst and Hossjer (1995) are used. Since the proposed method does not require fitting polynomial model of order higher than the model order, it is simpler than the order selection method proposed by Fan and Gijbels (1995b).

  • The problem is a variation of the weighted set-covering problem (SCP) which requires the minimum-cost cover to be self-covering. It is shown that direct extension of the well-known greedy heuristic for SCP can have an arbitrarily large error in the worst case. It remains an open question whther these exists a greedy heuristic with a finite error bound.

  • We obtain the approximate maximum likelihood estimators (AMLEs) for the scale and location parameters $\theta$ and $\mu$ in the three-parameter Weibull distribution based on Type-II censored samples. We also compare the AMLEs with the modified maximum likelihood estimators (MMLEs) in the sense of the mean squared error (MSE) based on complete sample.

  • Direct Decoding Method for binary BCH codes which directly can find error location number from syndrome without calculating error locator polynomial is presented in this paper. The (255,239) BCH decoder is implemented using TTL logics. It is shown from our results that this decoder can be implemented with relatively simple hardware.

  • The purpose of present study is to propose a improved damage detection and assessment algorithm that has its basis on the method of system identification. This method allows the use of composite data which is constitute of static displacements and eigenmodes. In the dynamic test, thecurvature and slope of mode shape are introduced to formulate the error responses. The effectiveness of the proposed staristical system identification method is investigated through simulated and experimental studies. Real test data obtained from measurements are used to identify the actual location of damage and to revise the design variables in a concrete structure.

  • In this paper, a highly scalable real-time locating system which can measure location of fast moving targets is proposed. Within the system, the location service area is partitioned into grids with squares which is referred to as a macro-cell. Also, a macro-cell is further partitioned into $N{\times}N$ micro-cells. In a micro-cell, location reference nodes are placed on every vertex and an arbitration node is placed on the center. When a mobile node tries to measure its location, it should first communicate with the arbitration nodes for granting location measurement operation. Therefore, within a micro-cell, only one granted mobile node can calculate its location by a series of communication with location reference nodes. To evaluate performance of the proposed system, the system is modeled and simulated. The simulation result shows that the proposed system requires small communication time for location measurement operation and produces small location calculation error for fast moving targets.

  • KRS which is subsystem of Korea Augmentation Satellite System (KASS) performs a role of collecting and monitoring GPS signals. In order to generate the accurate correction message, the site which meets the requirements should be selected and verification to meet each requirement should be accompanied. When the sites are selected, the environmental considerations are EMI, clear horizon (CH) and multipath. Of these, EMI and CH can be checked for satisfaction by instrumentation, but multipath error is difficult to predict. Therefore, multipath error analysis for the installation position of actual antenna at each KRS site should be preceded, and multipath scenario should be generated for each location to analyze the effects of the resulting system performance. In this paper, based on satellite signals collected from each KRS sites, the method for analyzing multipath error in each KRS sites is described, and the multipath error is analyzed. Also to perform an analysis of the effects on system performance due to multipath error, multipath error modeling is performed for the generation of simulation scenarios.
