This paper aims at comparing the metanarrative and East Timor's local narrative in Indonesia during the Suharto's regime. Although these history writings have different political goals, the patterns of writings are ironically similar. Both of the history writings show strong nationalistic history writing patterns. Yet, in the writings, these histories place different interpretations on the historical events. In the metanarrative, local dynamics are seen through the diagrams of the nation and nationhood. This narrative finds the roots of the "ethnie" from some kingdoms in Java and Sumatra. These kingdoms, which throve based on the Hindu-Buddhist culture, achieved a territorial unity to a degree, covering some parts of Java and Sumatra. The glorious past disappeared with the advent of the colonial rule. The metanarrative then emphasizes the unity of the ethnic groups in the archipelago, which fiercely resisted against the colonial exploitation and oppression. By this, these ethnic groups were defined as "the masses," the collective identity, which had a same goal to achieve the national independence. In addition, some local histories, which took positive attitudes toward the European forces, were simply left out from the metanarrative. All the separatist movements taking place in the republic were also described as the anti-unifying forces. On the other hand, the goal of the history-writing in East Timor was to enhance the sense of nationalism and create the perception of the "East Timorese." The fundamental aim was the separation from Indonesia. In the narrative, the nationalist politicians overcame the problem of the non-existence of any memories of the glorious past with the awakening of the idea of "the imagined gloriousness of the past if there was no colonial rule." In addition, the narrative overemphasizes the memory of the colonial rule for 450 years under the Portuguese rule in order to stress the fact that it was the colony of Portugal, not of the Netherlands. Finally, the narrative shows how the East Timorese collectively fell to the status of slaves. By this, the political leaders of East Timor evoked the notion that it was recolonized by Indonesia, under which the East Timorese were demoted to the status of slaves. This notion of "slave-master" relationship then became the motives for the independence struggles in East Timor.

In standard finite element algorithms, the local stability conditions are not accounted for in the formulation of the tangent stiffness matrix. As a result, the loss of the local stability is not adequately related to the onset of the global instability. The phenomenon typically arises with material-type localizations, such as shear bands and plastic hinges. This paper addresses the problem in the context of the planar, finite-strain, rate-independent, materially non-linear beam theory, although the proposed technology is in principle not limited to beam structures. A weak formulation of Reissner's finite-strain beam theory is first presented, where the pseudocurvature of the deformed axis is the only unknown function. We further derive the local stability conditions for the large deformation case, and suggest various possible combinations of the interpolation and numerical integration schemes that trigger the simultaneous loss of the local and global instabilities of a statically determined beam. For practical applications, we advice on a procedure that uses a special numerical integration rule, where interpolation nodes and integration points are equal in number, but not in locations, except for the point of the local instability, where the interpolation node and the integration point coalesce. Provided that the point of instability is an end-point of the beam-a condition often met in engineering practice-the procedure simplifies substantially; one of such algorithms uses the combination of the Lagrangian interpolation and Lobatto's integration. The present paper uses the Galerkin finite element discretization, but a conceptually similar technology could be extended to other discretization methods.

This paper purports to study on interactive fuzzy goal programming model which leads to the compromise solution which the decision maker satisfies through the interactive approach. We also attempted to calculate local proxy preference function from utility function of sum-of-logarithms in connection with marginal rate of substitution and interactive approach for the purpose of applying weight of multiobjective function. In an attempt to grasp compromise solution from fuzzy efficient solution, we decided to take the interactive method and presented stopping rule for this.

Nonparametric kernel regression has recently gained widespread acceptance as an attractive method for the nonparametric estimation of the mean function from noisy regression data. Also, the practical implementation of kernel method is enhanced by the availability of reliable rule for automatic selection of the bandwidth. In this article, we propose a method for automatic selection of the bandwidth that minimizes the asymptotic mean square error. Then, the estimated bandwidth by the proposed method is compared with the theoretical optimal bandwidth and a bandwidth by plug-in method. Simulation study is performed and shows satisfactory behavior of the proposed method.

In this paper, we present a motion compensated video compression method based on both block and object motions. A simplified objectoriented motion parameter is estimated from the block based motion vectors. A decision rule for the global or local MCP modes is established. Simulation results show that the proposed method has lower bit-rates than the BMA based method at the same reconstruction errors.

In a standard Metropolis-type Monte Carlo simulation, the proposal distribution cannot be easily adapted to "local dynamics" of the target distribution. To overcome some of these difficulties, Duane et al. (1987) introduced the method of hybrid Monte Carlo(HMC) which combines the basic idea of molecular dynamics and the Metropolis acceptance-rejection rule to produce Monte Carlo samples from a given target distribution. In this paper, using the HMC within Gibbs sampler, an asymptotical estimate of the smoothing mean and a general solution to state space modeling in Bayesian framework is obtaineds obtained.

Conventional fuzzy systems have serious problems in dealing with the nonlinear approximations on high-dimensional spaces due to the explosive increase of the number of fuzzy IF-THEN rules. In order to avoid such problems, this paper proposes a tree-structured fuzzy system in which semi-local basis functions form its basic elements, and develops a training algorithm for the proposed system based on the evolution program and LMS rule. The experimental studies demonstrate the effectiveness of the developed methodology.

Data mining is the method to find useful information for large amounts of data in database. It is used to find hidden knowledge by massive data, unexpectedly pattern, relation to new rule. The methods of data mining are decision tree, association rules, clustering, neural network and so on. The decision tree approach is most useful in classification problems and to divide the search space into rectangular regions. Decision tree algorithms are used extensively for data mining in many domains such as retail target marketing, fraud detection, data reduction and variable screening, category merging, etc. We analyze waste database united with local information using decision tree techniques for environmental information. We can use these decision tree outputs for environmental preservation and improvement.

To be expertise system, the Knowledge-base had the writing frames for essay structure and paragraph frames for construction of paragraph. To refer to the clause and sentence structure and to the use of words, Example dictionaries were offered. It is necessary to make nore precise rule for (1) extracting subject name of the frames and (2) making representative word of sentences for advanced system in the future.

In this paper, we proposed an indirect learning and direct adaptive control schemes using neural networks, i.e., composite adaptive neural control, for a class of continuous nonlinear systems. With the indirect learning method, the neural network learns the nonlinear basis of the system inverse dynamics by a modified backpropagation learning rule. The basis spans the local vector space of inverse dynamics with the direct adaptation method when the indirect learning result is within a prescribed error tolerance, as such this method is closely related to the adaptive control methods. Also hash addressing technique, similar to the CMAC functional architecture, is introduced for partitioning network hidden nodes according to the system states, so global neuro control properties can be organized by the local ones. For uniform stability, the sliding mode control is introduced when the neural network has not sufficiently learned the system dynamics. With proper assumptions on the controlled system, global stability and tracking error convergence proof can be given. The performance of the proposed control scheme is demonstrated with the simulation results of a nonlinear system.
