  • Network on a chip(NoC) is a communication subsystem between intellectual property(IP) cores in a SoC and improves high performance in the scalability and the power efficiency compared with conventional buses and crossbar switches. NoC needs a synchronizer to overcome the metastability problem between data links. This paper presents a new mesochronous synchronizer(MS) which is composed of selection window generator, selection signal generator, and data buffer. A delay line circuit is used to build selection window in selection window generator based on the delayed clock cycle of transmitted clock and the transmitted clock is compared with local clock to generate a selection signal in the SW(selection window). This MS gets rid of the restriction of metastability by choosing a rising edge or a falling edge of local clock according to the value of selection signal. The simulation results show that the proposed MS operates correctly for all phase differences between a transmitted clock and a local clock.

  • An evaluation method of spacer grid thermal mixing performance in rod bundles is suggested based on hydraulic tests in a single phase flow. Heat transfer correlation was derived by the analogy between momentum and heat transfer. Three of major factors, such as blockage ratio of spacer grid, convective flow swirling, and turbulent intensity, were found to be significantly influential to the spacer grid thermal mixing performance. Local heat transfer near spacer grid was predicted for the hydraulic test of 6 ${\times}$ 6 rod bundles with neighboring different spacer grids.

  • A forcasting scheme for daily solar irradiance on agricultural field sis proposed by application of chaos theory to a long term observation data. It was conducted by reconstruction of phase space, attractor analysis, and Lyapunov analysis. Using the methodology , it was determined whether evolution of the five climatic data such as daily air temperature , water temperature , relative humidity, solar radiation, and wind speed are chaotic or not. The climatic data were collected for three years by an automated weather station at Hwasung-gun, Kyonggi-province. The results showed that the evolution of solar radiation was chaotic , and could be predicted. The prediction of the evolution of the solar radiation data was executed by using ' local optimal linear reconstruction ' algorithm . The RMS value of the predicting for the solar radiation evolution was 4.32 MJ/$m^2$ day. Therefore, it was feasible to predict the daily solar radiation based on the chaos theory.

  • The classification and recognition of two-dimensional trademark patterns independently of their position, orientation, size and scale by proposing two feature vectors has been discussed. The paper presents experimentation on two feature vectors showing size- invariance and scale-invariance respectively. Both feature vectors are equally invariant to rotation as well. The feature extraction is based on local as well as global statistics of the image. These feature vectors have appealing mathematical simplicity and are versatile. The results so far have shown the best performance of the developed system based on these unique sets of feature. The goal has been achieved by segmenting the image using connected-component (nearest neighbours) algorithm. Second part of this work considers the possibility of using back propagation neural networks (BPN) for the learning and matching tasks, by simply feeding the feature vectosr. The effectiveness of the proposed feature vectors is tested with various trademarks, not used in learning phase.

  • Heterodyne efficiency is an indicator to evaluate the performance of space coherent laser communication systems. It is affected by signal light and local oscillator (LO) light amplitude, phase and polarization state. In this paper, based on the common heterodyne efficiency, a heterodyne efficiency model that can reflect polarization aberration of optical system is proposed. The heterodyne efficiency is analyzed when the signal light and the LO light are linearly polarized or circularly polarized. For a coherent communication optical system, when the incident signal light is right-circularly polarized light and the incident LO light is 45° linear polarized light. Based on the three-dimensional ray tracing theory and the heterodyne efficiency proposed in this paper, the change of polarization states and the distribution of heterodyne efficiency of the signal light and LO light influenced by the optical system's polarization aberration are analyzed. Analysis shows that the heterodyne efficiency model proposed in this paper can be used to evaluate coherent communication systems and reflect the influence of optical system polarization aberration.

  • To obtain a shear-wave velocity profile in geotechnical practice, various seismic investigation methods which have their own strength and weakness are being frequently used. Generally, geotechnical site have lateral variation of the properties, so it is needed to determine 2-dimensional shear wave velocity imaging of the site. In this study, harmonic wavelet analysis of wave (HWAW) method is applied to determination of 2-D $V_s$ imaging. HWAW method which is based on time-frequency analysis using harmonic wavelet transform have been developed to determine phase and group velocities of waves. HWAW method uses the signal portion of the maximum local signal/noise ratio to evaluate the phase velocity to minimize the effects of noise. HWAW method determine detailed local $V_s$ profile because one experimental setup which consists of one pair of receivers with spacing of 1~3m is used to determine the dispersion curve of the whole depth. So, 2-D Vs imaging with relatively high resolution can be determined through a series of HWAW test. In order to estimate the applicability of HWAW method, field tests were performed in 4 sites. Through field applications and comparison with other test results, the good accuracy and applicability of the proposed method were verified.

  • The evaluation of shear modulus (or shear wave velocity) profile of the site is very important in various fields of geotechnical engineering. In the field, there exist spatial variations of shear modulus that case uncertainty in the geotechnical analysis or design. So it is necessary to evaluate the spatial variation of shear wave velocities of the soil site. In this study, the HWAW method is applied to the determination of a 3-D Vs map of soil site. The HWAW method, which is based on harmonic wavelet transforms, has been developed to determine phase and group velocities of waves. The HWAW method uses only the signal portion of the maximum local signal/noise ratio to evaluate the phase velocity in order to minimize the effect of the noise. The field testing of this method is relatively simple and fast because only one experimental setup, which consists of one pair of receivers on the surface, is needed using a short receiver spacing setup (1~3m). These characteristics make it possible to determine detailed local Vs profile in the site with lateral Vs variation and to evaluate 3-D Vs map by performing a series of tests on the grid. To estimate the applicability of the proposed method, field tests were performed. Through field applications validity and applicability of the proposed method were verified.

  • This study evaluates the performance of Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model in simulating temperature over the COordinated Regional climate Downscaling EXperiment-East Asia (CORDEX-EA) Phase 2 domain for the reference period (1981~2005), and assesses the changes in temperature and its extremes in the mid-21st century (2026~2050) under global warming based on Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) scenarios. MPI-ESM-LR forced by two RCP scenarios (RCP2.6 and RCP8.5) is used as initial and lateral boundary conditions. Overall, WRF can capture the observed features of temperature distribution reflecting local topographic characteristic, despite some disagreement between the observed and simulated patterns. Basically, WRF shows a systematic cold bias in daily mean, minimum and maximum temperature over the entire domain. According to the future projections, summer and winter mean temperatures over East Asia will significantly increase in the mid-21st century. The mean temperature rise is expected to be greater in winter than in summer. In accordance with these results, summer (winter) is projected to begin earlier (later) in the future compared to the historical period. Furthermore, a rise in extreme temperatures shows a tendency to be greater in the future. The averages of daily minimum and maximum temperatures above 90 percentiles are likely to be intensified in the high-latitude, while hot days and hot nights tend to be more frequent in the low-latitude in the mid-21st century. Especially, East Asia would be suffered from strong increases in nocturnal temperature under future global warming.

  • Ten methods of the total two-phase pressure drop prediction based on five existing models and correlations have been examined for their accuracy and applicability to pressurized water reactor conditions. These methods were tested against 209 experimental data of local and bulk boiling conditions : Each correlations were evaluated for different ranges of pressure, mass velocity and Quality, and best performing models were identified for each data subsets. A computer code entitled 'K-TWOPD' has been developed to calculate the total two-phase pressure drop using the best performing existing correlations for a specific property range and a correction factor to compensate for the predicted error of the selected correlations. Assessment of this code shows that the present method fits all the available data within $\pm$11% at a 95% confidence level compared with $\pm$25%, for the existing correlations.

  • As the grid-connected photovoltaic power conditioning systems (PVPCS) are installed in many residential areas, these have raised potential problems of network protection on electrical power system. One of the numerous problems is an Islanding phenomenon. There has been an argument that it may be a non-issue in practice because the probability of islanding is extremely low. However, there are three counter-arguments: First, the low probability of islanding is based on the assumption of 100% power matching between the PVPCS and the islanded local loads. In fact, an islanding can be easily formed even without 100% power matching (the power mismatch could be up to 30% if only traditional protections are used, e.g. under/over voltage/frequency). The 30% power-mismatch condition will drastically increase the islanding probability. Second, even with a larger power mismatch, the time for voltage or frequency to deviate sufficiently to cause a trip, plus the time required to execute a trip (particularly if conventional switchgear is required to operate), can easily be greater than the typical re-close time on the distribution circuit. Third, the low-probability argument is based on the study of PVPCS. Especially, if the output power of PVPCS equals to power consumption of local loads, it is very difficult for the PVPCS to sustain the voltage and frequency in an islanding. Unintentional islanding of PVPCS may result in power-quality issues, interference to grid-protection devices, equipment damage, and even personnel safety hazards. Therefore the verification of anti-islanding performance is strongly needed. In this paper, improved RPV method is proposed through considering power quality and anti-islanding capacity of grid-connected single-phase PVPCS in IEEE Std 1547 ("Standard for Interconnecting Distributed Resources to Electric Power Systems"). And the simulation results are verified.
