  • Since climate change increases the risk of extreme rainfall events, concerns on flood management have also increased. In order to rapidly recover from flood damages and prevent secondary damages, fast collection and treatment of flood debris are necessary. Therefore, a quick and precise estimation of flood debris generation is a crucial procedure in disaster management. Despite the importance of debris estimation, methodologies have not been well established. Given the intrinsic heterogeneity of flood debris from local conditions, a regional-scale model can increase the accuracy of the estimation. The objectives of this study are 1) to identify significant damage variables to predict the flood debris generation, 2) to ascertain the difference in the coefficients, and 3) to evaluate the accuracy of the debris estimation model. The scope of this work is flood events in Ulsan city region during 2008-2016. According to the correlation test and multicollinearity test, the number of damaged buildings, area of damaged cropland, and length of damaged roads were derived as significant parameters. Key parameters seems to be strongly dependent on regional conditions and not only selected parameters but also coefficients in this study were different from those in previous studies. The debris estimation in this study has better accuracy than previous models in nationwide scale. It can be said that the development of a regional-scale flood debris estimation model will enhance the accuracy of the prediction.

수도사업자의 주요 운영지표와 ILI(Infrastructure Leakage Index)와의 상관관계 분석 (Correlation analysis of key operating indicators of waterworks with the Infrastructure Leakage Index (ILI))

  • The ILI, developed by the IWA (International Water Association), has been used in many countries as an indicator of water leakage. In Korea, the revenue water has been used as a performance indicator for waterworks although there is an opinion to replace it with the ILI. Hence, it has been necessary to investigate whether the ILI can replace the revenue water in Korea. The four main operating indicators (i.e., water service population, profit-loss ratio, fiscal self-reliance, and aged pipe rate) of 162 Korean waterworks were compared with the ILI with the linear regression method. Local water authorities with more than 1 million water service population, with more than 60% profit-loss ratio, more than 40% and less than 60% fiscal self-reliance, and more than 20% aged pipe rate showed meaningful correlation between the four parameters and the ILI. In the remaining cases, their correlations were little or weak. This means that using the ILI may not be an efficient method to represent the performance of the water supply system in Korea because of the lack of UARL (Unavoidable Annual Real Losses) data accuracy. To use the ILI in Korea, it will be required to carry out an additional research to accumulate reliable CARL (Current Annual Real Losses) and UARL data in the future.

Association Between Working Hours and Depressive Symptoms Among Korean Employees

  • Objectives Many studies have reported noticeable increases in the proportion of employees working either relatively short or relatively long hours. Such trends have been accompanied by an increasing concern that how much subjective mental well-being of employees would be influenced by their hours of work. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between work hours and clinically relevant depressive symptoms with demographic variables adjusted. Methods Participants were employees of a total of 56 private companies and local government organizations in Korea, aged 19 to 65 years. A self-report questionnaire that included items on working hour, job stress, levels of depression, and socio-demographic factors was administered to 15360 Korean employees, with 14477 valid responses. Hierarchical linear regression analyses, adjusted for sociodemographic factors, job related demographic factors, job stress, were used additionally to estimate the association between working hours and depressive scores. Results We found that working more than 40 hours per week correlated positively with the level of depressive symptoms after adjusting for demographic variables and the level of job stress. Furthermore, working 40 or fewer hours per week correlated negatively with the level of depressive symptoms. Being younger (β = -0.078, β = -0.099), being a female (β = 2.770, β = 1.268), and possessing a lower level of education (β = -0.315, β = -1.125) were significantly associated with higher level of depressive symptoms in all respondents. Conclusions Both of working excessively long or short hours is significantly associated with the prevalence of depressive symptoms. Establishing proper office hours for employees is critical to improving the quality of working conditions and maintaining good mental health in the workplace.

연속 CAPPI 자료를 이용한 단기강우예측모형 개발 (Development of a Short-term Rainfall Forecast Model Using Sequential CAPPI Data)

  • 선형외삽법에 기초한 전형적인 단시간 강우예측모형은 호우를 발생하는 강우시스템의 발달과정을 모의하지 못하는 한계를 내포하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 한계를 극복하기 위하여 기상레이더로 획득할 수 있는 여러 시간대의 반사도 정보로부터 획득한 정보변화 과정과 다항 회귀식을 이용하여 x방향과 y방향의 전파속도의 성장과정과 레이더 반사도의 성장과정 모의에 기초한 단시간 강우예측 모형을 개발하였다. 검정통계량이 제시한 결과는 2-CAPPI를 이용한 기존의 단시간 강우예측모형보다 개선된 결과를 보여주었다. 그럼에도 불구하고 본 모형이 완전한 물리적 모형이 아니라 자료사이의 상관성과 다항 회귀식을 이용한 통계적인 방법에 기초하였으므로 강우의 성장과 소멸과정을 구현과 예측성 개선에도 한계가 있음을 보였다.

기계학습을 활용한 특허수명 예측 및 영향요인 분석 (Prediction of patent lifespan and analysis of influencing factors using machine learning)

  • 특허의 사적 가치(private value)를 나타내는 특허수명 추정은 오래전부터 연구되었으나 추정과정에서 선형모델에 의존하는 경우가 대부분이었고, 기계학습 방법을 사용하더라도 변수 간 관계에 대한 해석이나 설명이 부족하였다. 본 연구에서는 특허의 생존 기간이 특허의 가치를 대리한다는 기존 연구결과를 바탕으로 특허 등록 이후의 생존 기간(연장횟수) 예측을 통해 특허의 가치를 추정한다. 이를 위해 1996~2017년까지 미국 특허청(USPTO)에 출원하여 등록된 특허 4,033,414개를 수집하였다. 특허수명을 예측하기 위해 기존 연구에서 특허수명에 영향을 미친다고 밝혀진 특허의 특성, 특허의 소유자 특성, 특허의 발명가 특성을 반영할 수 있는 다양한 변수가 사용되었다. 서로 다른 4개의 모델(Ridge Regression, Random Forest, Feed-forward Neural Network, Gradient Boosting Models)을 생성하고, 모델 학습 과정에서는 5-fold Cross Validation으로 초매개변수 조정이 이루어졌다. 이후 생성된 모델의 성능을 평가하고 특허수명을 추정할 수 있는 예측변수의 상대적 중요도를 제시하였다. 또한, 성능이 우수했던 Gradient Boosting Model을 기반으로 Accumulated Local Effects Plot을 제시하여 예측변수와 특허수명 간 관계를 시각적으로 나타내었다. 마지막으로 모델에 의해서 평가된 개별 특허의 평가 근거를 제시하기 위하여 Kernal SHAP(SHapley Additive exPlanations)을 적용하고 특허평가 시스템에의 적용 가능성을 제시한다. 본 연구는 기존에 특허수명을 추정하는 연구에 누적적으로 기여한다는 점 그리고 선형성을 바탕으로 진행된 기존 특허수명 추정 연구들의 한계를 보완하고 복잡한 비선형 관계를 설명가능한 방식으로 제시하였다는 점에서 학문적 의의가 있다. 또한, 개별 특허의 평가 근거를 도출하는 방법을 소개하고 특허평가 시스템에의 적용 가능성을 제시하였다는 점에서 실무적 의의가 있다.

란체스터 모형에 대한 통계적 고찰과 해석 (Statistical review and explanation for Lanchester model)

  • 본 논문에서는 과거 2차 세계대전 자료 중 Ardennes 전역에서 있었던 실제 전투 자료를 란체스터 모형에 적합 시키기 위하여 로그변환된 선형회귀모형을 추정하는 문제를 다루었다. 먼저 동일한 자료에 대하여 기존 연구 결과를 고찰하여 모수에 대한 최적해(Global Solution) 결정 문제와 다중공선성 문제들을 확인하였다. 최소제곱 추정법에 의한 모수 추정은 특정 제약조건이나 제한된 후보군을 고려할 경우 최적해를 찾지 못하고 지역해(Local Solution)를 찾을 수 있음으로 주의가 필요하고, 모형에 포함된 변수들은 통계적으로 충분히 유의성을 검토하여 포함해야지 그렇지 않았을 때 모수 추정값들이 왜곡될 수 있다. 모형에 과도하게 많은 설명 변수를 포함하는 경우 변수 간의 상관관계로 인하여 추정값이 왜곡되고 변수의 추가나 제거 시 불안정한 현상들이 발생한다. 이런 다중공선성 문제를 탐색하는 방법은 설명 변수 간의 선형적 연관 관계를 측정할 수 있는 분산확대인자(VIF)로 알려진 통계량에 의해 확인이 가능하며 이를 조치하기 위해서는 상호 연관된 설명 변수들을 제거하여 모형을 단순화해야 한다. 그래서 이러한 문제가 발생하지 않도록 모형을 단순화하고 이해와 설명이 용이한 전투력 손실률 모형을 제안하였고 Ardennes 자료에 대하여 적합한 결과 모수 추정이 안정적이고 자료에 대한 설명과 해석이 용이하다는 점을 입증하였다. 특히, 모수 추정간 선형회귀 모형의 기본적인 가정사항인 독립성, 정규성, 등분산성을 검증하여 자기상관(Autocorrelation) 문제로 독립성이 훼손되어 과대 과소 추정될 우려가 있는 사항을 Cochrane-Orcutt 방법에 의해 변환하여 독립성과 정규성을 보장하였다.

일부 개원의사들의 사회심리적 스트레스 및 직무 스트레스 관련 요인 (The Levels of Psychosocial Stress, Job Stress and Related Factors of Medical Doctors Practicing at Local Clinics)

  • Objectives : This study was conducted to investigate the levels of psychosocial stress, job stress and their related factors among medical doctors practicing at local clinics. Methods : A survey using a self administered questionnaire was administered to 1,456 doctors practicing at private clinics via post for 2 months (2006. 1 - 2006. 3). Psychosocial stress, job stress, demographic factors, job related factors and health related behaviors were investigated. Among the eligible study population, the respondents were 428 doctors (29.4%). Results : The average scores of psychosocial stress and job stress were 2.19 and 3.13, respectively. The levels of psychosocial stress and job stress were statistically lower in older respondents, those who worked shorter or who were more satisfied with their job, and those with higher socioeconomic status. The level of psychosocial stress was related with smoking status, drinking status and exercise. The level of job stress was related with smoking status and exercise. In multiple linear regression analysis using psychosocial stress as a dependent variable, age, working hours per day, job satisfaction and perception on socioeconomic status were significant independent variables. In analysis using job stress as a dependent variable, age, working hours per day and job satisfaction were significant independent variables. Conclusions : Stress affects the doctor-patient relationship, productivity and overall health level of people. Therefore, it is important to manage and relieve the stress of doctors. It is suggested that more advanced studies on stress level and related factors and ways to improve the stress and health related behaviors of medical doctors should be conducted.

지역 EMS의 현장검사 혈당측정기 사용에 대한 실태조사 (Survey of Point-of-Care Testing Devices for Pre-hospital EMS Equipment of Glucometer on Local Area)

  • 119 구급대원들이 사용하는 현장 검사 장비 중 하나인 자가 혈당측정기는 결과 값이 정확해야 환자에게 적절한 처치를 제공할 수 있다. 연구 최초 조사 시점 이후 현재까지도 119 구급대원 현장업무 지침에 현장 검사 장비의 작동 유무, 수량 등을 확인하는 것은 있으나, 장비의 점검에 수량, 작동 여부 등은 있으나 본 연구에서 분석한 정도관리 내용은 없다. 현장검사 장비의 질 관리가 되지 않고 있다는 것은 환자에 대한 부정확한 평가와 이로 인한 불필요한 처치와 과소, 과대처치 또는 환자 상태가 악화될 가능성을 높일 수 있다. 본 연구를 통해, 앞으로 119 구급대원의 혈당측정기를 포함한 모든 현장검사 장비의 사용실태조사가 이루어져야 하고, 119 구급대 현장 업무 지침에 현장 검사 장비 정도관리를 추가하여야 하겠다. 또한, 현장 검사 장비가 관련 지침에 따라서 적절한 질 관리가 이루어져야 하고, 지역에서 관련 업무 전문가나 응급의료지도를 담당하고 있는 지도의사에게 관리되는 것이 합당하겠다.

Allometric equation for estimating aboveground biomass of Acacia-Commiphora forest, southern Ethiopia

  • Background: Most of the biomass equations were developed using sample trees collected mainly from pan-tropical and tropical regions that may over- or underestimate biomass. Site-specific models would improve the accuracy of the biomass estimates and enhance the country's measurement, reporting, and verification activities. The aim of the study is to develop site-specific biomass estimation models and validate and evaluate the existing generic models developed for pan-tropical forest and newly developed allometric models. Total of 140 trees was harvested from each diameter class biomass model development. Data was analyzed using SAS procedures. All relevant statistical tests (normality, multicollinearity, and heteroscedasticity) were performed. Data was transformed to logarithmic functions and multiple linear regression techniques were used to develop model to estimate aboveground biomass (AGB). The root mean square error (RMSE) was used for measuring model bias, precision, and accuracy. The coefficient of determination (R2 and adjusted [adj]-R2), the Akaike Information Criterion (AIC) and the Schwarz Bayesian information Criterion was employed to select most appropriate models. Results: For the general total AGB models, adj-R2 ranged from 0.71 to 0.85, and model 9 with diameter at stump height at 10 cm (DSH10), ρ and crown width (CW) as predictor variables, performed best according to RMSE and AIC. For the merchantable stem models, adj-R2 varied from 0.73 to 0.82, and model 8) with combination of ρ, diameter at breast height and height (H), CW and DSH10 as predictor variables, was best in terms of RMSE and AIC. The results showed that a best-fit model for above-ground biomass of tree components was developed. 우리 나라 전산화단층촬영기(CT)의 도입에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 연구 (Adoption and Its Determining Factors of Computerized Tomography in Korea)

  • High price equipment is one of the major factors that increases national health expenditure in developed countries. Computerized Tomography(CT), one of the important high price equipment, has been concerns of health service researchers and policy makers in many countries. In Korea, CT, first introduced in 1984, have spreaded nationwide with rapid speed. Though the Committee for Approving Import of High Price Medical Equipment, founded in 1981, tried to regulate the introduction of high price medical equipment including CT, the effort resulted in failure. The exact situation of diffusion of the high price equipment, however, was not yet investigated. We aimed at the description of the diffusion of CT in Korea and analysis of influencing factors on hospitals for the adoption of CT. We mainly used the database of CT, made in 1996 by the National Federation of Medical Insurance for the purpose of insurance payment for CT. Also characteristics of hospitals were gathered from yearbooks published by the central and local governments and by the Korean Hospital Association. We calculated the cumulative number of the CT per one million population year by year. In turn, multiple linear logistic regression was done to find out the contributing factors for the adoption of CT by each hospital. In the logistic regression model, it is regarded as dependent factor whether a hospital retained CT or not in 1988 and 1993. The major categories of the independent factors were hospital characteristics, environmental factors and competitive conditions of hospitals at the period of the adoption. The results are as follows: Number of CT scanners per one million persons in Korea marked more higher level compared with those of most OECD countries. Major influencing factors on the adoption of CT scanners were hospital characteristics, such as hospital referral level, and competitive condition of hospitals, such as number of CT scanners per 10,000 persons in each district where the hospital was located. In Korea, CT diffused with rather rapid speed, comparable with those of the United States and Japan. The major factors contributing on the adoption of CT for hospitals were competitive condition and hospital characteristics rather than regional health care need for CT. In conclusion, a kind of regulating mechanism would be necessary for the prevention of the indiscreet adoption and inefficient use of high price equipment including CT.
