In this thesis, we propose a concurrency control scheme which schedules global transactions in multidatabase systems Unlike other scheme which commit global transactions as soon as they have finished their execution, this scheme has attempted to delay them if their exist another global transactions that should be proceeded. Owing to the deferred commitment, the number of global restarts could be greatly reduced. This scheme's performance gain increased through simulations in case more than one LDBS employ timestamp ordering(TO) as a local concurrency control scheme.

In this paper, an expert system is proposed, which can be effectively applied to the large-scale systems with the diversity time constraints, the objectives and the unfixed system structure. The inference scheme of the expert system have the integrated structure composed of the intuitive inference module and logical inference module in order to support effectively the operating constraints of system. The intuitive inference module is designed using the pattern matching or pattern recognition method in order to search a same or similar pattern under the fixed system structure. On the other hand, the logical inference module is designed as the structure with the multiple inference mode based on the heuristic search method in order to determine the optimal or near optimal control strategies satisfing the time constraints for system events under the unfixed system structure, and in order to use as knowledge generator. Here, inference mode consists of the best-first, the local-minimum tree, the breadth-iterative, the limited search width/time method. Finally, the application results for large-scale distribution SCADA system proves that the inference scheme of the expert system is very effective for the large-scale system. The expert system is implemented in C language for the dynamic mamory allocation method, database interface, compatability.
The Long-Term Biodiversity Research Programme (LTBRP) for Mindanao is envisioned to be a collaborative programme of the Philippines. It will be a programmatic research on biodiversity - its status, threats. and conservation and management. The chosen research site is Mt. Malindang in Misamis Occidental of Mindanao. The BRP will support a set of research projects that will generate knowledge on biological and ecological, socio-economic. cultural and policy aspects of biodiversity conservation. It will also enable researchers to develop and try new methods for research on these aspects, separately or crossing boundaries of academic disciplines. Moreover. the BRP will implement support programmes which will provide the linkages of research activities to development issues and needs in the research site. The support programmes will also draw from the research projects, the knowledge that can be lent or immediately available to policy and programme formulation. The support programmes will comprise: human resource development or capability-building; information, education and communication; database; networking; community organizing: and development action. The BRP will be undertaken by a group of academie and research institutions from the Philippines, in partnership with their respective government entities and local government units in Mindanao. The Biodiversity Research Programme (BRP) will comprise a set of research projects to be undertaken by small research teams in the site. Researchable areas have been identified initially through the National Biodiversity Research Agenda. and later enriched in the Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) Analysis workshops by the Mindanao researchers and Philippine resource persons. Results of the PRA are presented in the paper.

Streaming Technology can support the real-time playback without downloading and storing multimedia data in local HDD. So, client browser or plug-in can represent multimedia data before the end of file transmission using streaming technology. Recently, the demand for efficient real-time playback and transmission of large amounts of multimedia data is growing rapidly. But most users' connections over network are not fast and stable enough to download large chunks of multimedia data. In this paper, we propose an intelligent IP streaming system based on personalized media service. The proposed IP streaming system enables users to get an intelligent recommendation of multimedia contents based on the user preference information stored on the streaming server or the home media server. The supposed intelligent IP streaming system consists of Server Metadata Agent, Pumping Server, Contents Storage Server, Client Metadata Agent and Streaming Player. And in order to implement the personalized media service, the user information, user preference information and client device information are managed under database concept. Moreover, users are assured of seamless access of streamed content event if they switch to another client device by implementing streaming system based on user identification and device information. We evaluate our approach with manufacturing home server system and simulation results.

With the help of a small wearable device, patients reside in an isolated village need constant monitoring which may increase access to care and decrease healthcare delivery cost. As the number of patients' requests increases in simultaneously manner, the web service gateway located in the village hall encounters limitations for performing them successfully and concurrently. The gateway based RESTful technology responsible for handling patients' requests attests an internet latency in case a large number of them submit toward the gateway increases. In this paper, we propose the design tasks of the web service gateway for handling concurrency events. In the procedure of designing tasks, concurrency is best understood by employing multiple levels of abstraction. The way that is eminently to accomplish concurrency is to build an object-oriented environment with support for messages passing between concurrent objects. We also investigate the performance of event-driven architecture for building web service gateway using node.js. The experiments results show that server-side JavaScript with Node.js and MongoDB as database is 40% faster than Apache Sling. With Node.js developers can build a high-performance, asynchronous, event-driven healthcare hub server to handle an increasing number of concurrent connections for Remote Healthcare Monitoring System in an isolated village with no access to local medical care.
To investigate drug interaction, 23,536 prescriptions published for 1 year were investigated with 'Drug Interaction Fact 2002'. Dispensing records and a database file written in a local general hospital in South Korea were used as a sample. The number of total cases of drug interaction was 3,238 ($13.76\%$) out of 23,536 prescriptions. The incidence of drug interaction in each prescription the children, the adults, and the elderly were $1.33\%,\;10.97\%,\;25.50\%$, respectively. The incidences of drug interaction per each prescription were $22.03\%,\;20.52\%,\;0.51\%,\;and\;0.36\%$ in neurosurgery, internal medicine, pediatrics, and orthopedics, respectively. In neurosurgery and internal medicine, risk-high drugs of drug interaction such as antihypertensive drugs, diuretics, and cimetidine were used very often in elderly. In this paper, several suggestions to reduce drug interaction were postulated with regard to the usage of analgesics, non-steroidal antiinflammatory drugs, and antibiotics.
Radiation effects on materials are inherently multiscale phenomena in view of the fact that various processes spanning a broad range of time and length scales are involved. A multiscale modeling approach to embrittlement of pressure vessel steels is presented here. The approach includes an investigation of the mechanisms of defect accumulation, microstructure evolution and the corresponding effects on mechanical properties. An understanding of these phenomena is required to predict the behavior of structural materials under irradiation. We used molecular dynamics (MD) simulations at an atomic scale to study the evolution of high-energy displacement cascade reactions. The MD simulations yield quantitative information on primary damage. Using a database of displacement cascades generated by the MD simulations, we can estimate the accumulation of defects over diffusional length and time scales by applying kinetic Monte Carlo simulations. The evolution of the local microstructure under irradiation is responsible for changes in the physical and mechanical properties of materials. Mechanical property changes in irradiated materials are modeled by dislocation dynamics simulations, which simulate a collective motion of dislocations that interact with the defects. In this paper, we present a multi scale modeling methodology that describes reactor pressure vessel embrittlement in a light water reactor environment.
Natural disasters can cause major accidents in chemical facilities where they can lead to the release of hazardous materials which in turn can result in fires, explosions or toxic dispersion. Technological disasters triggered by natural disasters are referred to as NaTech(Natural Disaster Triggered Technological Disaster). These trends increase the probability of catastrophic future disasters and the potential for mass human exposure to hazardous materials released during disasters. In the present study, we proposed some methods for effective disaster management by conducting case study of major NaTech. First, establishing information sharing system of chemical accident for stakeholders and improving disaster manuals and standards of central and local government and co-operation support system. Second, activating information service of emergency planning and community right to know. Third, improving the integrated chemical accident database including NaTech accidents.
In this paper, We propose an efficient automatic caption detection and location method, caption recognition using FE-MCBP(Feature Extraction based Multichained BackPropagation) neural network for content based retrieval of video. Frames are selected at fixed time interval from video and key frames are selected by gray scale histogram method. for each key frames, segmentation is performed and caption lines are detected using line scan method. lastly each characters are separated. This research improves speed and efficiency by color segmentation using local maximum analysis method before line scanning. Caption detection is a first stage of multimedia database organization and detected captions are used as input of text recognition system. Recognized captions can be searched by content based retrieval method.
