4 Way Quadrature Divider Using Metamaterial Transmission Lines (Metamaterial 전송선로를 이용한 4출력 90° 위상 분배기)

  • We propose a wideband 4-way quadrature divider for global navigation satellite system (GNSS). The proposed divider consists of one balun and two 2-way quadrature dividers. In the balun, the input power is divided by a wilkinson divider and the out of phase characteristic is achieved by ${\pm}90^{\circ}$ metamaterial transmission line phase shifters applied two output ports. The structures of two quadrature dividers is similar to that of the balun, but the phase shifters of two output ports are exchanged by ${\pm}90^{\circ}$ metamaterial transmission line. Metamaterial transmission lines are designed by using five LC loaded transmission line (LCL-TL) unit cells. The fabricated 4 way quadrature divider has the phase characteristic of $90^{\circ}{\pm}10^{\circ}$ in 1.165 - 1.61 GHz.

Analysis of Higher Order Modes of Waveguide Latching Phase Shifter (도파관 래칭 이상기의 고차 모드 해석)

  • New method to calculate the characteristics of the dominant and higher order modes of waveguide latching phase shifters are presented. Due to the tensor permeability, E and H fields inside the ferrite are expanded in terms of the LSE and LSM eigenmodes of the dielectric-slab-loaded waveguide. The equivalent coupled transmission line equations on the transverse plane are derived to obtain the dispersion characteristics and the E and H field distributions. Numerical results at X-band are compared with those published previously. The derived field distributions can be used to suppress the higher order modes of the latching phase shifters, so that the phase shift from the dominant mode only contributes the performance of the phase shifters.

  • This paper presents the description of a 4-bit digital p-i-n diode phase shifter that was designed for quasimillimeter wave band satellite receiver to use in phased-array systems. 180$^{\circ}$ and 90$^{\circ}$ cells are designed in reflection type that consists of a 3-dB rat-race hybrid coupler, 45$^{\circ}$ and 22.5$^{\circ}$ cells are designed in loaded-line type to reduce the size of circuit and the number of diode to be used. The 4-bit phase shifter uses eight p-i-n diodes mounted in the microstrip circuit. The average insertion loss for the 16 phase states is 6.92dB over the 19.8~20.3 GHz band and maximum phase error is 6.2$^{\circ}$ at 20 GHz.

  • In this paper, the 5-bit digital phase shiftier with 10 InGaAs HEMTs is designed and fabricated for U.S. mobile DBS receiving active phased array antenna system in 12 GHz band. 11.25 $^{\circ}$, 22.5$^{\circ}$ and 45$^{\circ}$ phase bits are designed in leaded-line type. 90$^{\circ}$ and 180$^{\circ}$ phase bits are designed in reflection type combined with ring hybrid. The return loss more than 17.5 ㏈, insertion louts less than 7.8 ㏈, and maximum phase error of $\pm$6$^{\circ}$for 32 phase responses are measured in 12.2 GHz~ 12.7 GHz band.

  • In this paper, the microstrip phased array antennas with coupling-slots for the base station of mobile communication is proposed and anlyzed with accurate analysis method which is based on both reciprocity principle and full-wave analysis. The basis functions used for the numerical analysis are determined depending upon the accuracy, convergence properties of the solution, and the computation time. The patch uses 3 EB mode and the slot uses IPWS mode. The designed phased array antenna has 8 slot-coupled microstrip patch array elements and the beam scanning capability is obtained by using the 4-bit PIN-diode phase shifters as switching devices which are consisted of the loaded line phase shifters for 30.deg. and 60.deg. and the reflection type phase shifters for 90.deg. and 180.deg. repectively. The 4-bits phase shifters which aremade by connecting each phase shifter have about 2.deg.-3.deg. phase errors and their insertion loss are about 3dB for each phase state. The fabricated 8-element phased array antenna with 4-bits phase shifters provides 12.deg.-14.deg. beamwidths depending on the scanning angle and is capable of scanning its beam to .+-.45.deg. with 9.deg. intervals, and the gain 12dBi. The overall results show that the slot-coupled phased array antenna has great advantages of wideband, high gain and reduced spurious radiation. Also, the antenna can be made small and thin. Furthermore, the scanning property of this antenna allows for its application in several areas, such as mobile communication system and PCS.
