The comprehension and structural modeling of masonry constructions is fundamental to safeguard the integrity of built cultural assets and intervene through adequate actions, especially in earthquake-prone regions. Despite the availability of several modeling strategies and modern computing power, modeling masonry remains a great challenge because of still demanding computational efforts, constraints in performing destructive or semi-destructive in-situ tests, and material uncertainties. This paper investigates the shear behavior of masonry walls by applying a plane-stress FE continuum model with the Modified Masonry-like Material (MMLM). Epistemic uncertainty affecting input parameters of the MMLM is considered in a probabilistic framework. After appointing a suitable probability density function to input quantities according to prior engineering knowledge, uncertainties are propagated to outputs relying on gPCE-based surrogate models to considerably speed up the forward problem-solving. The sensitivity of the response to input parameters is evaluated through the computation of Sobol' indices pointing out the parameters more worthy to be further investigated, when dealing with the seismic assessment of masonry buildings. Finally, masonry mechanical properties are calibrated in a probabilistic setting with the Bayesian approach to the inverse problem based on the available measurements obtained from the experimental load-displacement curves provided by shear compression in-situ tests.
The bridge tested was 3 spans 90m-long PSC beam concrete bridge with a stub-type abutment which had a skew of 60$^{\circ}$ about the axis of bridge. A cement concrete was placed at the superstructural slab of the bridge. Inclinometers and straingauges were installed at piles as well. During 7 days-curing of superstructural slab, the pile behavior in response to hydration heat and drying shrinkage of the slab was monitored. Then monitored values were compared with the horizontal movement obtained from the HACOM program and the calculated lateral behavior obtained from the nonlinear p-y curves of pile. As a result, lateral behavior of H-piles by the field measurement occurred due to the influence of hydration heat and drying shrinkage obtained during curing of superstructural concrete. The lateral displacements by hydration heat and drying shrinkage were 2.2mmand 1.4mm respectively. It was observed as well that the inflection point of lateral displacement of pile was shown at 1.3m down from footing base. It means that the horizontal movement of stub abutment did not behave as the fixed head condition of a pile but behave as a similar condition. The measured bending stress did not show the same behavior as the fixed head condition of pile but showed a similar condition. The increment of maximum bending stress obtained from the nonlinear p-y curves of pile was about 300(kgf/$\textrm{km}^2$) and was 2 times larger than measured values regardless of installation places of straingauges. Meanwhile, lateral load, maximum lateral displacement, maximum bending stress and maximum bending moment of pile showed a linear behavior as curing of superstructural concrete slab.
Adhesion and friction tests were carried out in order to investigate the effect of temperature on the tribological characteristics of poly (methylmethacrylate) (PMMA) film using AFM. The pull-off and friction forces on the PMMA film were measured under a high vacuum condition (below $1{\times}10^{-4}$ Pa) as the temperature of the PMMA film was increased from 300 K to 420 K (heating) and decreased to 300K (cooling). Friction tests were also conducted in both high vacuum and air conditions at room temperature. When the temperature was 420 K, which is 25 K higher than the glass transition temperature $(T_g)$ of PMMA, the PMMA film surface became deformable. Subsequently, the pull-off force was proportional to the maximum applied load during the pull-off force measurement. In contrast, when the temperature was under 395 K, the pull-off force showed no correlation to the maximum applied load. The friction force began to increase when the temperature rose above 370 K, which is 25 K lower than the $T_g$ of PMMA, and rapidly increased at 420 K. Decrease of the PMMA film stiffness and plastic deformation of the PMMA film were observed at 420 K in force-displacement curves. After the heating to 420 K, the fiction coefficient was measured under the air condition at room temperature and was found to be lower than that measured before the heating. Additionally, the RMS roughness increased as a result of the heating.
The seismic performance of the ordinary steel reinforced concrete (SRC) columns has no significant improvement compared to the reinforced concrete (RC) columns mainly because I, H or core cross-shaped steel cannot provide sufficient confinement for core concrete. Two improved SRC columns by constructing with new-type shaped steel were put forward on this background, and they were named as enlarging cross-shaped steel and diagonal cross-shaped steel for short. The seismic behavior and carrying capacity of new-type SRC columns have been researched theoretically and experimentally, while the shear behavior remains unclear when the new-type columns are joined onto SRC beams. This paper presents an experimental study to investigate the shear capacity of new-type SRC joints. For this purpose, four new-type and one ordinary SRC joints under low reversed cyclic loading were tested, and the failure patterns, load-displacement hysteretic curves, joint shear deformation and steel strain were also observed. The ultimate shear force of joint specimens was calculated according to the beam-end counterforce, and effects of steel shape, load angel and structural measures on shear capacity of joints were analyzed. The test results indicate that: (1) the new-type SRC joints display shear failure pattern and has higher shear capacity than the ordinary one; (2) the oblique specimens have good bearing capacity if designed reasonably; and (3) the two proposed construction measures have little effect on the shear capacity of SRC joints embedded with diagonal cross-shaped steel. Based on the mechanism observed from the test, the formulas for calculating ultimate shear capacity considering the main factors (steel web, stirrup and axial compression ratio) were derived, and the calculated results agreed well with the experimental and simulated data.
In comparison to metal alloys, braided composite features a high impact resistance and crash energy absorption potential, and also it still remained competitive stiffness and strength properties. Braiding angle is one of the most important parameters which affect the mechanical behaviors of braided composite. This paper presents transverse low velocity impact failure behavior analysis on the carbon 3D triaxial braided composite tube with the braiding angle of $20^{\circ}$, $50^{\circ}$ and $80^{\circ}$. The flexural behaviour of 3D triaxial braided composite tube under bending loads was studied by conducting quasistatic three point bending test. Also, the low velocity impact responses of the braided composite tubes were also tested to obtain load-displacement curves and energy absorption. Consequently, the increase of the braided angle, the peak load also increases owing to the bigger bending stiffness.

This paper predicted the shear behavior of reinforced concrete columns using Transformation Angle Truss Model (TATM) considered the effects of bending moment and axial force. Nine columns with various shear span- to-depth ratios and axial force ratios were tested to verify the theoretical results obtained from TATM. Fine linear displacement transducers (LVDT) were attached to a side of the column near the shear critical region to measure the curvature, the longitudinal and transverse axial deformations, and the shear deformation of the column. The test was terminated when the value of the applied load dropped to about $85\%$ of the maximum-recorded load in the post-peak descending branch. All the columns were failed in shear before yielding of the flexural steel. The shear strength and the stiffness of the columns increased, as the axial force increased and the shear span-to-depth ratio decreased. Shear stress-shear strain and shear stress-strain of shear reinforcement curves obtained from TATM were agreed well with the test results in comparison to other truss models (MCFT, RA-STM, and FA-STM).

Technique for analyzing a pile installed by vibrohammer was developed and parametric studies were executed in order to evaluate reliability of the developed technique. Comparing the accelerations obtained from parametric studies of varying eccentric moment and frequency, it can be seen that magnitude of maximum acceleration was proportional to the eccentric moment and square of frequency. It can also be seen that amplitude of displacement was roughly proportional to the eccentric moment but has nothing to do with the frequency. It can be said that all of the analysis results reflect characteristics of behavior of a pile in case of free vibration. Comparing the dynamic load transfer curves, maximum dynamic unit toe resistance was constant regardless of the eccentric moment and the frequency and it can be seen that dynamic unit skin friction was affected by the eccentric moment not by frequency. Comparing all of the analysis results, it can be said that the developed technique is reliable.

Two different UHPCCs having different fiber lengths and volume fractions are considered to be applied to bridge decks. The objective of this study is to estimate cracking resistance of the two UHPCCs. The notched beam tests were performed with the UHPCCs, and the relationships between load and CMOD(Crack Mouth Opening Displacement) were obtained from the tests. The tensile stress and crack opening relationships optimally fitting the measured load-CMOD curves were found through the inverse analyses. The UHPCC with 2% volume fraction of 13 mm long fiber has lower fracture energy than the UHPCC with 0.5% and 1.0% volume fractions of 16.3 mm and 19.5 mm long fibers, respectively. It indicates that the latter UHPCC is more effective in uniformly distributing crack formation and reducing crack width.

This paper presents a new structural system to use as retaining walls. In civil works, there is a general trend to use traditional reinforced concrete (RC) retaining walls to resist soil pressure. Despite their good resistance, RC retaining walls have some disadvantages such as need for huge temporary formworks, high dense reinforcing, low construction speed, etc. In the present work, a composite wall with only one steel plate (steel-concrete) is proposed to address the disadvantages of the RC walls. In the proposed system, steel plate is utilized not only as tensile reinforcement but also as a permanent formwork for the concrete. In order to evaluate the efficiency of the proposed SC composite system, an experimental program that includes nine SC composite wall specimens is developed. In this experimental study, the effects of different parameters such as distance between shear connectors, length of shear connectors, concrete ultimate strength, use of compressive steel plate and compressive steel reinforcement are investigated. In addition, a 3D finite element (FE) model for SC composite walls is proposed using the finite element program ABAQUS and load-displacement curves from FE analyses were compared against results obtained from physical testing. In all cases, the proposed FE model is reasonably accurate to predict the behavior of SC composite walls under out-of-plane loads. Results from experimental work and numerical study show that the SC composite wall system has high strength and ductile behavior under flexural loads. Furthermore, the design equations based on ACI code for calculating out-ofplate flexural and shear strength of SC composite walls are presented and compared to experimental database.
An experimental study was performed to investigate the seismic performance of solid steel reinforced concrete (SRC) frames with special-shaped columns that are composed of SRC special-shaped columns and reinforced concrete beams. For this purpose, two models of two-bay and three-story frame, including an edge frame and a middle frame, were designed and tested. The failure process and patterns were observed. The mechanical behaviors such as load-displacement hysteretic loops and skeleton curves, load bearing capacity, drift ratio, ductility, energy dissipation and stiffness degradation of test specimens were analyzed. Test results show that the failure mechanism of solid SRC frame with special-shaped columns is the beam-hinged mechanism, satisfying the seismic design principle of "strong column and weak beam". The hysteretic loops are plump, the ductility is good and the capacity of energy dissipation is strong, indicating that the solid SRC frame with special-shaped columns has excellent seismic performance, which is better than that of the lattice SRC frame with special-shaped columns. The ultimate elastic-plastic drift ratio is larger than the limit value specified by seismic code, showing the high capacity of collapse resistance. Compared with the edge frame, the middle frame has higher carrying capacity and stronger energy dissipation, but the ductility and speed of stiffness degradation are similar. All these can be helpful to the designation of solid SRC frame with special-shaped columns.
