Characteristic Analysis of Single Phase Line-start Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor Considering Circuit Parameters (단상 직립 기동형 영구자석 동기기의 회로정수에 따른 특성 해석)

  • In this paper, the characteristics of single-phase line-start permanent magnet synchronous motor driven by constant voltage are analyzed on d-q axis vector diagram and compared with that of current controlled motor. The coupled method of symmetrical coordinates and d-q axis voltage equation are applied to the analysis method like the analysis of single-phase induction motor. From the result of the analysis, it is seen that motors driven by constant voltage source have effects on not only the amplitude of current and torque but also current and current phase angle, so overall characteristics such as power factor and load angle are affected by circuit parameters. For precise analysis and design of single-phase line-start synchronous motor, its characteristics should be analyzed on d-q axis vector plan in consideration of the variation of circuit parameters.

  • The design of the exhaust manifold for the pulse converters of a 4 strokes high power medium-speed diesel engine is presented in terms of fatigue analysis. The said system undergoes thermal expansion due to high temperature of exhaust gas and is exposed to intrinsic vibration of the internal combustion engine. Moreover, the exhaust pulse generates pressure pulsating along the runner inside manifold. Under such circumstances, the design and construction of exhaust manifold must be carried out in a way to prevent early failure due to fracture. To validate the design concept, a test rig was developed to simulate the combination of thermal and vibrational movements, simultaneously. Experimental results showed that a certain sense of reliability can be achieved by considering a field factor obtained from the results of engine bench tests.

  • Most LV customers have been applying three-phase four-wire electric distribution system which supplies 1-phase and 3-phase load concurrently. Due to its structural simplicity, This system is easy to run. But it can also cause many problems from the unbalance, such as reduced output, increased loss etc. Also the unbalance in the load side causes the unbalance in the source side; it may lower the stability of the whole power system. In this paper, we propose the Y-Tz transformer winding method to reduce the current unbalance in the source side. Efficiency of this method was proven through the simulation and verification experiment.

  • Multilayer step down piezoelectric transformers were manufactured using PZN-PMN-PZT and PMN-PNN-PZT ceramics respectively. Sintering temperature of the ceramics was $940^{\circ}C$. And then. their electrical properties were investigated according to the variations of frequency and load resistance. The voltage step-up ratio of multilayer piezoelectric transformer showed the maximum values in the vicinity of 69 and 71kHz, respectively. At the load resistance of $100{\Omega}$, the piezoelectric transformers showed the temperature rises of about 21 and $18^{\circ}C$ at the output power of 15W and 18W, respectively. At the transformer with high effective electromechanical coupling factor($k_{eff}$), lower temperature increase was appeared.

  • Turbine blade is subject to cyclic bending force by steam pressure. Stress analysis by fractography is already established technology as means for seeking cause of fracture and has been widely employed. In the X-ray fractography, plastic deformation and residual stress near the fracture surface can by determined and information of internal structure of material can be obtained. Therefore, to find a fracture mechanism of torsion-mounted blade in nuclear power plant, based on the information from the fracture surface obtained by fatigue test, the correlation of X-ray parameter and fracture mechanics parameter was determined and then the load applied to actual broken turbine blade was predicted.

  • This paper presents Continuous-current mode of $S^4$-PFC(Single-Stage Single-switch Power Factor Correction) converter. Proposed converter operates in the continueous current mode(CCM) at full load and discontinuous current mode(DCM) at light load. So, characteristic of proposed converter is no bus voltage stress and Zero Voltage Switching(ZVS) using resonant auxiliary circuit. And. This paper presents characteristic of $S^4$-PFC converter and effect of circuit parameter of proposed converter through the input inductor, PFC capacitor's variation. All of these theory and characteristic verified through the experiment with a 72W(12V, 6A), $90^{kHz}$ prototype converter.

  • Capacitor has been used principally for the power factor compensation long ago. However now it does as passive filter to reduce harmonics of nonlinear load with reactor. Most of the customer's low-voltage feeder has been designed with approximately balanced and connected at the 3 phase four wire system. But voltage and current unbalance is appeared by the mixing operation of single or three phase load etc. The addition of reactor at the condenser may rise its terminal voltage. Voltage and current values above rating can act on electrical stress on the condenser. In this paper, we calculated and measured that voltage, current and capacity of condenser are changed under the voltage balance. We conclude that magnitude and deviation of phase voltage act on major point of electrical stress.

  • There are many benefits such as increased areal density, reduced power consumption, applied smaller size and improved shock resistance in Load/Unload(L/UL) mechanism. It has been the key technology of developing small form factor hard disk drive used in portable digital devices. The main objectives of L/UL are no slider-disk contact and faster L/UL process. For realizing those, we must consider many design parameters in L/UL systems. In this paper, we focus on the effects of ramp profile. We can investigate dynamic characteristics of suspension tap and slider on ramp during unloading process experimentally. In special, we examine the effects of vortical velocities, ramp slopes and disk vibrations. As the result of these experiments, we propose design criteria of advanced ramp profile for good unloading performance.
