In Korea, ocean dumping has been widely used as the ultimate disposal of sewage sludge. However, ocean dumping of food wasted and sewage sludge from 2013 is expected to legally restricted as London convention on marine pollution prevention has been effective in 2009. This research aims to examine the effect of HEAS in treating the environmental pollution load caused by organic high concentrated sludge. Thus, onsite laboratory scale treatability test using HEAS was adopted to treat the high concentrated organic sludge from sewage and industrial wastewater treatment plant. The research results showed that the HEAS is useful to reduce the environmental pollution caused by organic high concentrated sludge. Specific results are as follows. 1. The organic removal after the sludge digestion using the high efficiency aeration system was 55.2-85.8%. Although these results were lower than those from the general sewage treatment, the high efficiency aeration system could be evaluated as efficient, considering the object sludge contained the industrial waster water. 2. The average removal efficiency was about 25.2%. 3. It was revealed that sludge digestion by the high efficiency aeration system could effectively contribute to the sludge treatment cost. Especially, the high efficiency aeration system is more applicable to the onsite treatment of small sewage and wastewater treatment plant that contains high solid content sludge, industrial wastewater sludge, high fixed solid sludge.
This paper address the characteristics of loading pollutants caused by the unit agricultural area to establish an efficient management method in NPS (non-point source). The relationship between rainfall and runoff shows good coefficient with 0.92, when the event which shows relatively long antecedent dry days is excepted. The impact of runoff volume on the runoff coefficient can be described by the rainfall intensity strongly. The pollutant EMCs (event mean concentrations) in runoff increased by the increase of antecedent dry days due to dry soil conditions. As the similar pattern of pollutant's loads such as TSS, BOD, COD, TN and TP, it is cleared that other pollutants can be removed when TSS is removed. Therefore the system using only runoff coefficients is not sufficient for the prediction of pollutant loads. It is necessary to consider soil conditions such as rainfall, antecedent dry day, antecedent rainfall etc. for the prediction system.
The governmental investment to SOC facilities currently has increasedthe construction of new roads and the consistent extension of already-existing roads or the line-shape revision of those roads. As a result, the road cut slopes have been increasingrapidly. Unfortunately, human-life damages and property damages frequently occur due to the rockfall and the landslide every year. To reduce those damages, many studies have been performed. The present regulation regarding rockfall protection facilities follows the "Guide for Installation and Management of Road Safety Facilities" issued by MLTM (the Ministry of Land, Transport, and Maritime Affairs) that indicates the standard size of facilities and energy absorbing efficiencies. Most domestic road slopes use standardized rockfall protection facilities based on the regulation. However, there have been doubted about the effectiveness of rockfall protection facilities and the damages caused by rockfalls havebeen increasedevery year. Thus, it seems that relevant studies are necessary on the rockfall protection net being capable of supporting rockfall energies. Accordingly, this study reviews previous literature to investigate the function and the feature of rockfall protection nets and analyzetheir limitations by each type. After that, by using the pullout test device for a rockfall protection net, an experiment on the PVC coating net and the expanded metal is performed under the exact same condition. Finally, the features of the Expended metal is explained with the comparison analysises of load-variation and the confirmation of damaged forms. As a result, there have been founded the problemsof net breaking down and not being able to support due to PVC coating net's material property of disintegration. On the other hand, the Expanded Metal might be expected as a substituteof rockfall protection net according to its capability of support and integration.

Due to the financial crisis in 2008, the world economy collapsed leading to an increase in oil prices and a decrease in freight by shipping. To overcome this crisis, major shipping companies ordered larger ships, changed their trading route and improved operating of ships to overcome deficits. In particular, low-speed navigation was much favored by many companies so that it can reduce fuel consumption. However, the long-term operation of high-speed optimized engines in low-speeds has affected the jacket cooling fresh water (J.C.F.W.) system as they fail to maintain the normal operational temperature. The temperature of J.C.F.W. system dropped leading to low temperature corrosion. As a result, when the engine is operating at minimal load the functioning of existing J.C.F.W cooler is decreased and the use of fresh water generator is substantially limited. Therefore, an improvement in the functioning of J.C.F.W. system is necessary. In this paper, in order to review the improvements required for the operation of J.C.F.W. of low-speed operating marine diesel, an experiment was conducted by comparing and analyzing the results of the main engine J.C.F.W. system of a Panamax class bulk carrier 82k and a Cape class bulk carrier 180k by installing and uninstalling the J.C.F.W. Cooler. Thus, this paper proposed an improved design of the J.C.F.W. system that is suitable for the present low-speed operation.
Major factors affecting water quality in rivers are transportation, input of pollutant loads and kinetic transformation of pollutants. Government level decision makings on water quality management are based on steady state water quality modeling. However, it is more than often that such a steady state assumption is far from real situations in rivers. Therefore, it is unavoidable to have modeling errors in water quality modeling especially for steady state modeling for longer period of time. Authors attempted to identify sources of errors in results of steady state models and thus tried to find out ways to minimize those errors. Three water quality models, QUAL2E (Brown et al., 1983), QUAL2K (Chapra et al., 2006) and CAP (Seo and Lee, 2000) were applied to the lower stream of the Geum River. $BOD_5$ and COD tend to underestimate observed data while TN and TP showed relatively smaller errors. QUAL2E model provided best calibration results for BOD5 and TP and QUAL2K model showed best calibration results for TN. Since these errors are only relative values, it was difficult to conclude which model is better performing in certain situations. The most probable reasons for errors in water quality modeling are; 1) inappropriate consideration on flow characteristics, 2) lack of information on incoming pollutant load and 3) inappropriate location of sampling for water quality analysis.

This research is focused on an analysis on the structure of RAW image file and the development of a RAW image file viewer for an embedded device. Recently, several RAW image file formats are being used for saving and displaying the images created by various DSLR cameras, and the necessity of handing RAW images in mobile multimedia devices is increasing. For the development of RAW image decoding/encoding library applicable to WinCE-based embedded devices viewer, an analysis of RAW image file formats, such as CRW, CR2, PEF, NEF, MRW, have been performed because their formats are not released in public. By using the library, the analysis software which can extract RAW image data, 2~3 JPEG image files and other informations such as the specification of a camera and various photographic parameters from RAW image files, were developped and a RAW image file viewer which can run in WinCE-based embedded devices. The experimental result has shown that the viewer could encode and decode RAW image files successfully and it took approximately 10secs to load them to the screen in S3C6410 based embedded platform. The outcomes of this research cloud be a good information and solution to multimedia application developers.

For a library to be run more efficiently, its internal strengths and weaknesses, external opportunities and threats must be determined for forecasting on the basis of the diagnosis of the internal and external environment and situations, and optimum strategies and measures responsively deducted and utilized. Therefore, I had analyzed the strategic competition of university A's library using SWOT analysis, which has recently been spotlighted as an effective strategic competition analysis method. The conclusions thus obtained are as explained below. Firstly. the strengths of university A's library are the professional qualifications of the employees. work efficiency based on systematic operative plans and division of work load, and provision of high quality service following the establishment of the digital library. Secondly, its weaknesses are the insufficiency and limits of the usable resources, the lack of progressive future operation plans and systems, and the deficiency of a positive service mind. Thirdly, the opportunities are the possibility for new developments in accordance with the digital information environment. reinforcement of the operative efficiency throughout expanding its cooperation with external organizations and other libraries, and its transformation as the local library hub by opening up to the public. Fourthly, the threats are the lack of the school authorities' acknowledgement. and the degradation of the library's status in accordance, the users' various requests for information and advanced professional service according to the rapidly changing information environment. and the restriction of the library service based on the copyright law. Fifthly, as a result of analyzing the strategic competition of university A's library, measures such as the reinforcement of digital service by acquiring digital specialists. provision of extended service through active cooperation with external institutes and libraries. development and provision of differentiated service in accordance with the reinforced copyright law were proposed to improve the library's future competitiveness.

This study was carried out to investigate the typical composition of food waste from municipal solid wastes (MSW) and unit food waste generation rates from different sources in the model cities and to study the food waste management system from unit household to composting facilities. The annual average food waste composition of MSW was determined as 49% in Taejon and 52% in Chungnam Province, respectively. No big difference in food waste composition was found among the different sources. Since the paper waste generally occupied the half of food waste, over 75% of MSW was found to be compostable or biodegradable. Per capita food waste generation rate, 200~250g/capita day was determined by the direct measurement from 32 households, while 380g/capita day for Chungnam Province and 400 g/capita day for Taejon were estimated by the load count analysis In the sanitary landfills. This difference means people contribute generating food waste at outside house approximately twice as much as that at inside house. Per capita food waste generation rates from several sources were determined as follows; 166~215g/capita day at municipalities, 400g/visitor day at a first class hotel, 170g/student day at a university restaurant. Food waste generation from restaurant was strongly dependant upon it's level or quality; 670g/capita day at the high level restaurant, 190g/capita day at the middle class and 60 g/capita day at the lower class restaurant. The food waste reduction rate in a In situ fermentor showed 30~40g/kg day.
This study was performed to offer the data for design of the seedling bed transfer equipment to make the automation of working process in a plant factory. The seedling bed transfer equipment pushing the seedling bed with bearing wheels on the rail for interconnecting each working process by a pneumatic cylinder was made and examined. The examined transfer force to push the seedling bed with a weight of 178.9 N by the pneumatic cylinder with length of 60 cm and section area of 5 $cm^2$ was measured by experiments. The examined transfer forces was compared with theoretical ones calculated by the theoretical formula derived from dynamic system analysis according to the number of the seedling bed and pushing speed of the pneumatic cylinder head at no load. The transfer function of the equipment with the input variable as the pushing speed $V_{h0}$(m/s) and the output variable as the transfer force f(t)(N) was represented as $F(s)=(V_{h0}/k)(s+B/M)/(s(s^2+Bs/M+1/(kM))$ where M(kg), k(m/N) and B(Ns/m) are the mass of the bed, the compression coefficient of the pneumatic cylinder and the dynamic friction coefficient between the seedling bed and the rail, respectively. The examined transfer force curves and the theoretical ones were represented similar wave forms as to use the theoretical formular to design the device for the seedling bed transfer. The condition of no vibration of the transfer force curve was $kB^2>4M$. The condition of transferring the bed by the repeatable impact and vibration force according to difference of transfer distance of the pneumatic cylinder head from that of the bed was as $Ce^{-\frac{3{\pi}D}{2\omega}}<-1$, where ${\omega}=\sqrt{\frac{1}{kM}-\frac{B^2}{4M^2}}$, $C=\{\frac{\frac{B}{2M}-\frac{1}{kB}}{\omega}\}$, $D=\frac{B}{2M}$. The examined mean peak transfer force represented 4 times of the stead state transfer force. Therefore it seemed that the transfer force of the pneumatic cylinder required for design of the push device was 4Bv where v is the pushing speed.
In this study, the relationship between the settlements and the horizontal displacements according to embankment was analyzed at the marine sedimentary grounds for preparation of a site, and then the empirical equations of both the settlement and the horizontal displacement considering the embankment load and the thickness were proposed. To do this, the field and laboratory tests were performed at the improvement section where the pre-loading method was applied, and the field monitoring was performed using various sensors. Based on the results of the tests and monitoring, the ground deposits, soil characteristics and engineering properties were analyzed and the settlements and lateral movements were estimated by the Regression analysis. The ground deposits from the ground surface were composed of reclaimed soils, sedimentary soils and based rocks. The thickness of clay in the sedimentary soils layer was ranged from 3.9 m to 44.5 m. The embankment heights to improve the ground during pre-loading were constructed from 4.7 m to 7.8 m in each section. The settlements during embankment were ranged from 0.959 m to 2.217 m and the lateral movements were ranged from 0.048 m to 0.313 m. As the result of regression analysis, the equations of settlements and horizontal displacements according to embankments may be proposed as $s=0.02h^2+0.11h$ and ${\delta}=0.01e^{0.37h}$, respectively. The proposed empirical equations of the settlements and the horizontal displacements according to embankment on the marine sedimentary ground may be applied to the site where has a similar condition of study area.
