  • The standard prestressed concrete I-girder bridge (PSC I-girder bridge) is one of the most prevalent types for small and medium bridges in Korea. When determining the member forces in a section to assess the safety of girder in this type of bridge, the general practice is to use the simplified practical equations or the live load distribution factors proposed in design standards rather than the precise analysis through the finite element method or so. Meanwhile, the live load distribution factors currently used in Korean design practice are just a reflection of overseas research results or design standards without alterations. Therefore, it is necessary to develop an equation of the live load distribution factors fit for the design conditions of Korea, considering the standardized section of standard PSC I-girder bridges and the design strength of concrete. In this study, to develop an equation of the live load distribution factors, a parametric analysis and sensitivity analysis were carried out on the parameters such as width of bridge, span length, girder spacing, width of traffic lane, etc. Then, an equation of live load distribution factors was developed through the multiple linear regression analysis on the results of parametric analysis. When the actual practice engineers design a bridge with the equation of live load distribution factors developed here, they will determine the design of member forces ensuring the appropriate safety rate more easily. Moreover, in the preliminary design, this model is expected to save much time for the repetitive design to improve the structural efficiency of PSC I-girder bridges.

  • Numerical simulations on the suspended load in the Do jang fish port are carried out. Suspended load is analysed by using the two-dimensional advection-diffusion equation. To describe behaviors of a pollutant in costal zone, a split-operator method is applied to the numerical model. The advection part is first solved by SOWMAC and then the diffusion part is solved by a three-level locally implicit scheme.

  • Generally not only the radial load but also the moment may be applied to the ball bearings for a shaft system. However it has been difficult to determine the static equivalent load because there is the radial static equivalent equation only for the axial and radial force on the bearings. In this paper, the same static equivalent radial load which makes the maximum contact force at the interface between the ball and groove as the applied radial force and moment generate is calculated under the condition that the radial force and the moment are applied to the bearings simultaneously. The relation between the static equivalent load and applied force is studied. Therefore the simple and effective equation for the static equivalent radial load of the radial load and moment is proposed for the deep groove ball bearings.

  • An analysis of dynamic responses is carried out on monoclinic anisotropic system due to a buried harmonic line source. The load is in the form of a normal stress acting along an arbitrary axis on the plane of symmetry within the orthotropic materials: In case that the line load is acting along the symmetry axis normal to the plane of symmetry, plane wave equation is coupled with verital shear wave and longitudinal wave. However, if the line load is acting along an arbitrary axis normal to the plane of symmetry, plane wave equation is coupled with vertical shear wave, longitudinal wave and horizontal shear wave. We first considered the equation of motion in a reference coordinate system, where the line load is coincident with a symmetry axis of the orthotropic material. Then the equation of motion is transformed into one with respect to general coordinate system with azimuthal angle by using transformation tensor. Plane wave solutions of monoclinic systems are derived for infinite media. Finally complete solutions for the plane harmonic wave are obtained by calculating the inverse of the integral transforms, in which bulk wave poles are avoided by deforming the contour of the integration to the complex plane. Numerical results for examples of orthotropic material belonging to monoclinic symmetry are demonstrated.

  • BACKGROUND: To improve the Daechung reservoir water quality, a quantitative estimation of the delivery load from upper watershed need to be conducted prior to others. To do so, an intensive monitoring is necessary because of the complexity and uncertainty of the delivery load from uppper watershed. However, intensive monitoring need to invest much time, cost, and effort. So, many researcher have developed an equation to estimate the delivery loads. But, relatively little research has been conducted on the applicability of pre-developed equation using other sites. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate application of the equation for BOD, T-N and T-P delivery load. METHODS AND RESULTS: To verify the applicability of the equation, the following equation was used; Delivery loads(kg/day)=generated pollutant loads${\times}(1-{\alpha}){\times}$(daily outflow/${\beta})^{\gamma}$. The equations could be calculated the daily delivery loads of streams without any data of water quality, only with the data of daily runoff of study sites. The equations were applied to Youngdogcheon, Chogangcheon, Bocheongcheon, Sookcheon to examine its applicability using monitoring data. The results showed that the estimated delivery loads were in a good agreement with the observed data and indicated reasonable applicability of the equations. CONCLUSION(s): Overall, the equations were satisfactory in estimation of delivery loads at upper watershed of the Daechung reservoir. Therefore, the equations could be contributed to better water quality management in the Daechung reservoir.

  • In this paper, we study the response of several anisotropic systems to buried transient line loads. The problem is mathematically formulated based on the equations of motion in the constitutive relations. The load is in form of a normal stress acting with arbitrary axis on the plane of monoclinic symmetry. Plane wave equation is coupled with vertical shear wave, longitudinal wave and horizontal shear wave. We first considered the equation of motion in reference coordinate system, where the line load is coincident with symmetry axis of the orthotrioic material. Then the equation of motion is transformed with respect to general coordiante system with azimuthal angle by using transformation tensor. The load is first described as a body force in the equations of the motion for the infinite media and then it is mathematically characterized. Subsequently the results for semi-infinite spaces is also obtained by using superposition of the infinite medium solution together with a scattered solution from the free surface. Consequently explicit solutions for the displacements are obtained by using Cargniard-DeHoop contour. Numerical results which are drawn from concrete examples of orthotropic material belonging to monoclinic symmetry are demonstrated.

  • The use of concrete filled steel tube (CFST) column is widely accepted due to its property of high axial load carrying capacity, more ductility and more resistant to earthquake specially using in bridges and high-rise buildings. The initial imperfection (δ) that produces during casting or fixing causes the reduction in load carrying capacity, this is the reason, experimental capacity is always less then theoretical one. In this research, the effect of δ on load carrying capacity and behavior of concrete filled steel tube (CFST) column have been investigated by numerically simulation of large number of models with different δ and other geometric parameters that include length (L), width (B), steel tube thickness (t), f'c and fy. Finite element analysis software ANSYS v18 is used to develop model of SCFST column to evaluate strength capacity, buckling and failure pattern of member which is applied during experimental study under cyclic axial loading. After validation of results, 42 models with different parameters are evaluated to develop empirical equation predicting axial load carrying capacity for different value of δ. Results indicate that empirical equation shows the 0 to 9% error for finite element analysis Forty-two models in comparison with ANSYS results, respectively. Empirical equation can be used for predicting the axial capacity of early estimating the axial capacity of SCFT column including 𝛿.

  • A creep-buckling analysis is studied for a simply-supported viscoelastic column. The fluid-type four-parameter model is employed because of its general applicability to creep materials. Using the imperfection-based incremental approach, a nonlinear load deflection equation is derived. Safe load and critical (or life) time which characterize the stability of the viscoelastic column are obtained mathematically and interpreted physically. A finite difference algorithm is applied to solve the second-order differential equation of the viscoelastic stress-strain relation. Numerical calculation has been made and discussed far a SUS316 stainless steel column.

  • This paper studies on arrangement of load correlation coefficient for advanced load management. To accurate load correlation coefficient, we used two real factors, electrical energy(kWh) and peak load current of pole transformers, acquired by measuring instrument. Out of several correlation equations, we find that the quadratic equation is the most accurate to express peak load current and working electrical energy. If the data is located in the outside of ${\pm}3{\sigma}$ it is discarded. For load management, we rearranged load correlation coefficient considering +2${\sigma}$ at load correlation equation. Comparing conventional load correlation coefficient with rearranged one, we can get the result of error reduced and it is adjacent to the actual data. It will be used peak load forecasting from working electrical energy and we are able to prevent from the damaging of pole transformer due to overload.
