This paper proposes a combined fuzzy adaptive sliding-mode voltage controller (FASVC) for a three-phase UPS inverter. The proposed FASVC encapsulates two control terms: a fuzzy adaptive compensation control term, which solves the problem of parameter uncertainties, and a sliding-mode feedback control term, which stabilizes the error dynamics of the system. To extract precise load current information, the proposed method uses a conventional load current observer instead of current sensors. In addition, the stability of the proposed control scheme is fully guaranteed by using the Lyapunov stability theory. It is shown that the proposed FASVC can attain excellent voltage regulation features such as a fast dynamic response, low total harmonic distortion (THD), and a small steady-state error under sudden load disturbances, nonlinear loads, and unbalanced loads in the existence of the parameter uncertainties. Finally, experimental results are obtained from a prototype 1 kVA three-phase UPS inverter system via a TMS320F28335 DSP. A comparison of these results with those obtained from a conventional sliding-mode controller (SMC) confirms the superior transient and steady-state performances of the proposed control technique.

When shock acceleration is applied to a mechanical system, it may cause malfunctioning and damage to the system. Hence, to prevent these problems when developing a gimbal structure system for observation reconnaissance, the MIL-STD-810G shock standard must be satisfied as a design specification. Rubber vibration isolators are generally assembled on the base of the system in order to reduce the shock transferred from the aircraft. It is difficult to analyze the transient behavior of the system accurately, because rubber has a nonlinear load-deformation curve. To treat the nonlinear characteristic of the rubber, bilinear approximation was introduced. Using this assumption, transient responses of the system under base shock acceleration were calculated by the finite element method. In addition, experiments with a true prototype were performed using the same conditions as the analytical model. Compared with experimental data, the proposed numerical method is useful for the transient analysis of gimbal structure systems, including rubber vibration isolators with nonlinear stiffness and damping.

Non-synoptic winds generated by tornadoes, downbursts or gust fronts exhibit significant non-stationarity and can cause significant wind load effect on flexible structures such as long-span bridges. However, conventional assumptions on stationarity used to evaluate the structural wind-induced vibration are inadequate. In this paper, an efficient frequency domain scheme based on fast CQC method, which can predict non-stationary buffeting random responses of long-span bridges, is presented, and then this approach is applied to evaluate the buffeting response of a long-span suspension bridge located in a complex mountainous wind environment as an example. In this study, the data-driven method based on one available measured wind speed sample is firstly presented to establish non-stationary wind models, including time-varying mean wind speed, time-varying intensity envelope function and uniformly modulated fluctuating spectrum. Then, a linear time-variant (LTV) system based on the proposed scheme can be generally applied to calculate the non-stationary buffeting responses. The effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed scheme are verified through Monte Carlo time domain simulation implemented in ANSYS platform. Also, the transient effect nature of the bridge responses is further illustrated by comparison of the non-stationary, quasistationary and steady-state cases. Finally, buffeting response analysis with traditional stationary treatment (10 min constant mean plus stationary wind fluctuation) is performed to illustrate the importance of the non-stationary characteristics embedded in original wind speed samples.
Frequency is an important operating parameter of a power system. Frequency of a power system remains constant if sum of all the loads plus losses equals total generation in the system. However, the frequency starts to decrease if total generation is less than the sum of loads and tosses. On the other hand, the system frequency increases if total generation exceeds the sum of loads and losses. Electric power systems sustain transient frequency swings whenever the balance between generation and load does not no longer hold. To cope with this Constraints, it requires an accurate and high speedy frequency deviation estimation technique and suitable adjustment to obtain the power system energy balance. The fundamental frequency component of 3-phase signal is first extracted by using an algorithm based on FIR(finite duration impulse response) filter, a phase angle of a voltage. The rate change of the phase angle is used for estimation and speed in its process. Also, to confirm the validity of the proposed algorithm, the simulation results obtained by using EMTP(electro magnetic transients program) are shown.

When input parameters like gas volume or load of the fuel cell system is changed, the fuel cell system can generate transient voltage disturbances. In this paper, a fuel cell system with Z-source inverter and ultracapacitors for voltage disturbance compensation is proposed. The structure of Z-source inverter is simple. It has unique features that can boost/buck input voltage with a DC/DC converter using only a modified switching pattern. The characteristics of the proposed topologies for the fuel cell system with Z-source inverter and ultracapacitors are analyzed using simulation, and verified by experiments. The simulation and experimental results show that the proposed system is capable of operating with stable response to the system transient and voltage disturbances.
This paper proposes a scheme of auto-tuning fuzzy PI controller and input voltage feed forward to control the output voltage of a three-phase Z-source inverter (ZSI). The proposed scheme adjusts the ts (Kp and Ki) in real time in order to find the most suitable Kp and Ki for PI controller and to simplify the controller design. The proposed scheme is verified the validity by experiment and co-simulation in PSIM and MATLAB/SIMULINK both load step change and input DC voltage variation in Z-source inverter, and has compared with the conventional PID control scheme. The experiment results involve of three-phase output voltage, Z-network capacitor voltage and dc-link peak voltage value. By those analysis and comparison, the availability of the proposed method in output voltage transient response quality improving has been verified. Compared with conventional PID method, the proposed method showed a more effective and robust control performance for coping with the severe disturbance conditions.
A variety of high voltage DC power supplies employing the high frequency inverter are difficult to achieve soft switching considering a quick response and no overshoot response under the wide load variation ranges which are used in medical-use x-ray high voltage generator from 20kV to 150kV in the output voltage and from 0.5mA to 1250mA, respectively. The authors develops soft switching high voltage DC power supply designed for x-ray power generator applications, which uses series resonant inverter circuit topology with a multistage voltage multiplier instead of a conventional high voltage diode rectifier connected to the second-side of a high-voltage transformer with a large turn ratio. A constant on-time dual mode frequency control scheme operating under a principle of zero-current soft switching commutation is described. Introducing the multistage voltage multiplier, the secondary transformer turn-numbers and stray capacitance of high-voltage transformer is effective to be greatly reduced. It is proved that the proposed high-voltage converter topology with dual mode frequency modulation mode control scheme is able to be the transient response and steady-state performance in high-voltage x-ray tube load. The effectiveness of this high voltage converter is evaluated and discussed on the basis of simulation analysis and observed data in experiment.
To design a submerged floating railway that is safe against underwater explosions, railway behavior must be investigated and clarified. In this paper, shock waves and impulse pressures generated by a charge away from the submerged floating railway are expressed using experimental formulas. The submerged floating railway tethered by mooring lines is modeled as a simply supported beam with elastic springs. Finite element analysis for the beam model subjected to impulse loading is conducted so that the response of the submerged floating railway can be investigated. For design purposes, a simplified analysis method combined with dynamic load factor is proposed for the same model. Maximum deformation and internal forces are calculated and compared with the time dependent analysis results. It is shown that the simplified analysis results show good agreement.

A new control method for a single-phase active power filter, based on a load current estimation using a DC capacitor voltage of active power filter without sensing nonlinear load current, is proposed in this paper. Because the method proposed can remove the load current sensor in comparison with a conventional method sensing the load current and DC capacitor voltage together, it can make the active power filter easy installation, low cost, small size with no performance detriment. In addition, sample-hold technique and proportional control method is adopted to control the DC capacitor voltage and as no delay element such as LPF or PI control in the conventional method is used, the transient response is fast and good. Operation of a single-phase active power filter which consist of eight mode is explained according to utility voltage, compensation current and switch state, and compensation characteristics of active power filter using proposed method is verified by experiment.

Growing demand for electricity, when combined with the need to limit carbon emissions, drives a huge increase in renewable energy industry. In the electric power system, electricity supply always needs to be balanced with electricity demand and network losses to maintain safe, dependable, and stable system operation. There are three broad challenges when it comes to a power system with a high penetration of renewable energy: transient stability, small signal stability, and frequency stability. Transient stability analyze the system response to disturbances such as the loss of generation, line-switching operations, faults, and sudden load changes in the first several seconds following the disturbance. Small signal stability refers to the system's ability to maintain synchronization between generators and steady voltages when it is subjected to small perturbations such as incremental changes in system load. Frequency stability refers to the ability of a power system to maintain steady frequency following a severe system upset resulting in significant imbalance between generation and load. In this paper, we discusses these stability using system simulation by renewable energy deployment plan, and also analyses the influence of the renewable energy sources to the grid stability.
