Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of general and oral health on quality of life in the elderly living alone and with family. Methods: We analyzed data from the $6^{th}$ Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Distribution of the elderly living alone and with family based on the general characteristics and general and oral health was analyzed using complex-sample chi-square tests. Multiple logistic regression was used to analyze the factors affecting quality of life by calculating the 95% confidence intervals. Results: In the elderly living alone, the quality of life significantly correlated with restriction of activity, perceived general and oral health status, perceived stress, and speech difficulties. Further, in the elderly living with family, lower quality of life significantly correlated with restriction of activity, perceived health status, walking days per week, life time smoking history, Community Periodontal Index, and chewing and speech difficulties. Conclusions: The elderly are concerned with self-maintenance of general and oral health. Therefore, systematic policies related to health services need to be developed and operated at the national level. It is especially necessary to take social interest in the elderly living alone and a more continuous and professional approach in their health care.
The need for personalized recommendation is growing due to convenient access and various types of items due to the development of information communication and smartphones. Weather and weather conditions have a great influence on the decision-making of users' places and activities. This weather information can increase users' satisfaction with recommendations. In this paper, we propose a collaborative filtering-based place recommendation system using living index by utilizing living index of users' location information on mobile platform to find users with similar propensity and to recommend places by predicting preferences for places. The proposed system consists of a weather module for analyzing and classifying users' weather, a recommendation module using collaborative filtering for place recommendations, and a management module for user preferences and post-management. Experiments have shown that the proposed system is valid in terms of the convergence of collaborative filtering algorithms and living indices and reflecting individual propensity.

Mobile oral exam at the facilities for the disabled in Seoul is to improve the oral health of the disabled who can hardly approach dental clinic. We analyzed 1609 oral exam records at 24 facilities (11 special-education schools, 10 living facilities, 2 mental hospitals, 1 health care facility for the elderly) in 2011. The purpose of this study is to figure out the oral health state of the disabled in facilities in Seoul and to compare with the non-disabled in National Survey 2010 and 2008. 1. Special-education school : DMFT index of age 15 is 5.4 which is higher than 3.6 (DMFT index of age 15) of National Survey in 2010. 2. Living facility : DMFT index of ages 35~44 is 8.4 which is higher than 5.2 (DMFT index of ages 35 ~44) of National Survey in 2008. DT rate is higher (31.3% vs 19.2%) and MT rate is lower (7.6% vs 15.5%). 3. Mental hospital : DMFT index of ages 35~44 is 11.3 which is higher than 5.2 (DMFT indext of age 35~44) of National Survey in 2008. DT rate is significantly higher (50.7% vs 19.2%) and FT rate is lower (35.1% vs 65.3%). 4. Health care facility for the elderly : DMFT index of ages 65~74 is 7.1 which is slightly lower than 8.7 (DMFT index of ages 65~74) of National Survey in 2008. The number of existing natural teeth is similar (16 vs 18).
This study empirically examines the impact of changes in market shares among retailing types on the price index. The retailing type is classified into 6 groups: department store, big mart, super market, convenient store, specialty merchant, and on-line store. The market shares of retailing types are calculated by the ratio of each retailing type monthly sales to total monthly retailing sales in which total retailing sales is the sum of each retailing type sales. We employed several price indices: consumer price index (CPI), CPI for living necessaries, and fresh food price index. In addition, this study used fundamental price indices based on 25 product families as well as 42 representative products. The empirical model also included several variables in order to control for the macroeconomic effects and those variables are the exchange rate, M1, an oil price, and the industrial production index. The data is monthly time-series data spanning over the period from January 2000 to December 2010. In order to test for the stability of data series, we conducted ADF test and PP test in which the model and length of lag were determined by the relevant previous literature and based on the AIC. The empirical results indicate that changes in market shares among retailing types have impacts on the price index. Table A shows that impacts differ as to which price index to use and which product families and products to use. For department store, it lowers the price of food and non-alcoholic beverages, home appliances, fresh food, fresh and vegetables, but it keeps the price high for fresh fruit. The big mart retailing type has a positive impact on the price of food, nut has a negative effect on clothing and foot wear, non-food, and fresh fruit. For super market, it has a positive impact on food and non-alcoholic beverages, fresh food, fresh shellfishes, but increases the price of CPI for living necessaries and non-food. The specialty merchant retailing type increases the price level of CPI for living necessaries and fresh fruit. For on-line store type, it keeps the price high for CPI for living necessaries and non-food as well as fresh fruit. For the analysis based on 25 product families shows that changes in market shares among retailing types also have different effects on the price index. Table B summarizes the different results. The 42 representative product level analysis is summerized in Table C and it indicates that changes in market shares among retailing types have different effects on the price index. The study offers the theoretical and practical implication to these findings and also suggests the direction for the further analysis.
Objectives: This study was undertaken to compare dietary life of the elderly living alone and in a family, and to compare differences based on gender, for the 2013-2016 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES). Methods: The subjects included 2,612 elderly people aged over 65 years who participated in the health survey, health examination and nutrition survey. Subjects on a diet therapy were excluded. This study analyzed the general characteristics, dietary habits, daily energy and nutrient intakes, CPF ratio, estimated average requirement (EAR), nutrient adequacy ratio (NAR) and mean adequacy ratio (MAR), index of nutrient quality (INQ), and food consumption of the elderly living alone and in a family. We also compared the differences based on gender. Results: Daily intake of food, water, dietary fiber, potassium, retinol, and riboflavin were low in the male elderly subjects living alone. The elderly living with family revealed higher NAR and MAR as compared to the elderly living alone. Although all MAR values were <1, the elderly living alone had lower values. Considering the intake of food, the consumption of seaweed, fish and shellfish, and oils (animal) was higher in elderly men living with families, whereas women living with families consumed more vegetables, fruits, seaweeds and seafood, as compared to their counterparts living alone. Furthermore, analyzing the foods consumed by the elderly people living alone, female subjects consumed more seaweed, milk and animal oil as compared to male subjects. Conclusions: The results of this study indicate that the elderly living alone have poor nutrient intake as compared to the elderly living with families. Based on this research data, we recommend that it is necessary to improve the health and nutritional status of the elderly living alone.
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate awareness of disaster safety related to the local safety level index (LSLI) and public safety consciousness index (PSCI) among college students in Jeju. Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study. The data were analyzed using the t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis using SPSS 26.0. Results: Awareness of disaster safety related to the local safety level index (LSLI) and PSCI was high. PSCI was significantly positive correlated with LSLI(r=.402, p<.01) and accounted for 17.5% of LSLI. Conclusion: The influencing factor for LSCI among PSCs was living safety, suggesting that safety education should focus on life safety.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to determine the efficacy of dual-task action observation training (AOT) and single-task AOT related with daily living task on walking ability and ADL performance in chronic stroke patients. METHODS: Twenty-seven chronic stroke subjects were included in the study. They were randomly assigned to three task categorieds as follows: whole dual-task AOT or partial dual-task AOT or single-task AOT rehabilitation. Whole dual-task AOT observed the movement at once and partial dual-task AOT observed the movement divided into 4 parts related functional gait and activities of daily living task for 2 minutes 30 seconds. Single-task AOT observed the movement related functional gait for 2 minutes 30 seconds. Both groups had physical training session for 12 minutes 30 seconds. The study was conducted for four weeks, with three training sessions a week, for twelve weeks. All subjects were evaluated for their walking ability and activities of daily living through devices, 10m walking test (10MWT), dynamic gait index (DGI), and Korea-Modified Barthel Index (K-MBI). RESULTS: A significant improvement of walking ability and ADL performance happened among dual-task AOT subjects, compared with a single-task AOT subjects, during the 4-weeks course treatment. The results of the study showed statistically significant differences in 10MWT (p<0.05) and DGI (p<0.05), and K-MBI (p<0.05). CONCLUSION: Our results indicated that dual-task AOT has a positive additional impact on recovery of walking ability and ADL performance in chronic stroke patients.
This research aims to classify the physical characteristics of middle aged women. The characteristics are esteemed to be adopted for the formalisation of the types of their body figures and their characteristics for each type. For this purpose, middle aged women in the significant change of their body shapes were sampled for body measurement which would be used for the comparison between each measured figure. A group of sample for this research was constructed with 154 middle aged women who is currently living in Seoul and its Metropolitan area and being in their age of $35{\sim}59$. Particularly, the analysis on the girth of belly shows a significant difference subject to each age group so that a distinguished change in the girth of belly is observed as the age gets older. With the SPSS programme, the physical characteristics of middle aged women were analysed by the variation analysis and correlation analysis. In terms of the analysis on the body mass index and the flatness index, the observed result that there is a significant difference between the indices for late middle aged women and early and mid middle aged women shows far more different result from Yu-Kyung Choi(1997) that the body figures of middle aged women tend to start rapidly to change from their ages of 49. This can be explained to some extent in that the increased interest in much healthier and slimmer body shapes beginning from widely-spread so called "well-being" syndrome results in the increase in the number of middle aged women taking care of their health management so that the ages starting their body shape to become obese tend to be deferred. Another explanation is also feasible to partly extent that the middle aged women living in Seoul and Kyung-Gi area are much more looking after their health management than those living in other areas. However, this research has a limitation in that the physical measurement for this research has been conducted focusing on the women living in Seoul and Kyung-Gi area. Hence, it is further expected going forward that the physical measurement for middle aged women living in other areas should follow for the comparison purpose.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of home related variables like socio-demographic variables, parent-child communication, and concern for children's education on children's school adjustment. The data was collected from 287 elementary school children living in Gyunggido. Measurement scales included the children's school adjustment inventory, the questionnaire of the socio-demographic variables, the parent-child communication index, and the parent's concern about children's education index. Results showed that children's school adjustment was significantly effected with regard to: father's age, father's education, mother's education, income, and mother's job. Correlation analysis indicated that parent-child open communication was positively correlated to children's school adjustment; that is the relationships with teachers and with friends, study at school, and rule of school. As well, parent-child problematic communication was negatively correlated to all of the school adjustment variables. Parent's concern about children's education indicated positive correlations with all of the school adjustment variables. It was also found that: parent's concern about children's education, parent-child open communication, parent-child problematic communication, mother's education, and income were significant predictors of the children's school adjustment.
Purpose : The aim of this study was to compare the effect of task-oriented training using the PNF(proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation) and task-oriented training with chronic stroke patients. Methods : Sixteen chronic stroke patients participated. Participants were randomly assigned to the control and experimental group( 8 experimental, 8 control). All of participants were in-patients at local hospital and had been received training appropriate to the purpose of each group program. Experimental period was carried out 30 minutes/day, five days/week, during four weeks. The experimental group trained the task-oriented training using the PNF and control group trained the task-oriented training. Fugl-meyer assessment scale and Modified Barthel Index was measured to compare the upper arm function and activities of daily living. We were measured before and after the training. Results : The results of the study were as follow: Fugl-meyer assessment scale was significantly increased both groups(p<.05), and significant between groups(p<.05). Modified Barthel index was significantly increased both groups(p<.05) and between groups(p<.05). Conclusion : PNF can be effective in improving upper arm function and ability to perform daily life of chronic stroke patients.
