액상 판형열교환기 성능실험장비 및 설계프로그램 개발 (Development of Performance Test Apparatus and Design Program of Liquid-Phase Plate Heat Exchanger)

  • The performance test apparatus of liquid-phase plate heat exchanger was installed and the computer program for design was developed in this study. The detail temperature distribution of hot and cold fluids in each path of heat exchanger was calculated by numerical method and the correlation for the heat transfer coefficient was defined. The heat transfer coefficients were measured using the working fluids of water and glycerine to investigate the effect of fluid viscosity. The measured heat transfer coefficients were compared with the calculated values obtained from the computer program and it was shown that error of the calculated values was generally less than 5%.

  • Spray cooling is a method of cooling high-temperature heating elements by spraying droplets. Recently, spray cooling has been proposed for use in next-generation nuclear reactors. When droplets are sprayed onto the outer wall of a heat exchanger tube, a film boiling occurs on the outer wall. Over time, the outer wall temperature decreases, and a liquid film forms on the outer wall, and the heat exchanger outer wall is subsequently cooled by the liquid film. In this case, the liquid film thickness has a great influence on the heat removal performance. In this study, an experimental study was conducted to measure the liquid film thickness distribution in a droplet spray environment. For this purpose, a method using the electrical conductivity of the liquid was adopted.

Heat Transfer Characteristics of Liquid-Solid Suspension Flow in a Horizontal Pipe

  • Particles in liquid-solid suspension flow might enhance or suppress the rate of heat transfer and turbulence depending on their size and concentration. The heat transfer characteristics of liquid-solid suspension in turbulent flow are not well understood due to the complexibility of interaction between solid particles and turbulence of the carrier fluid. In this study, the heat transfer coefficients of liquid-solid mixtures are investigated using a double pipe heat exchanger with suspension flows in the inner pipe. Experiments are carried out using spherical fly ash particles with mass median diameter ranging from 4 to $78{\mu}m$. The volume concentration of solids in the slurry ranged from 0 to 50% and Reynolds number ranged from 4,000 to 11,000. The heat transfer coefficient of liquid-solid suspension to water flow is found to increase with decreasing particle diameter. The heat transfer coefficient increases with particle volume concentration exhibiting the highest heat transfer enhancement at the 3% solid volume concentration and then gradually decreases. A correlation for heat transfer to liquid-solid flows in a horizontal pipe is presented.

  • This study was discussed about the thermal characteristics of finned tube heat exchanger having two row used in the air-conditioning application. Pressure drop and heat transfer coefficient were measured and investigated for the 3 times models of plain fin. Also the temperature distribution and heat conduction in the fin was measured by using the liquid crystal method. The surface temperature of rear row was nearly constant, and heat conduction in the fin was stronger near the front row than the rear row.

  • This paper is a study on the thermal design of printed circuit heat exchanger (PCHE) to supply cryogenic high pressure liquid hydrogen stored from hydrogen liquefaction process by using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). This PCHE should be thermally designed to raise the temperature of cryogenic liquid hydrogen to a desired temperature and also to be anti-icing to avoid any local freezing in hot channel. This research presents the effect of inlet velocity and inlet temperature of hydrogen, and the effect of flow configurations of co/counter-flow on thermal design of PCHE heat exchanger based on various CFD simulation analysis.

The Performance Evaluation of R407C and R410B in a Residential Window Air-Conditioner

  • This study presents test results of a residential window air-conditioner using R22 and two potential alternative refrigerants, R407C and R410B. A series of performance tests has been carried out for the basic and liquid-suction heat exchange cycles in a psychometric calorimeter test facility. For R407C, the same rotary compressor was used as in the R22 system. However, compressor for the R410B system was modified to provide the similar cooling capacity. The evaporator circuit was changed to get a counter-cross flow heat exchanger to take advantage of zeotropic mixture's temperature glide, and liquid-suction heat exchange cycle was also considered to improve the system performance. Test results were compared with those for the basic R22 system. The modified system with a liquid-suction heat exchanger increased cooling capacity and energy efficiency by up to 5%.

  • The heat transfer performance and energy transport ability are relatively high due to higher specific heat. Therefore, it can be used in fields such as heating, ventilating, air-conditioning, refrigeration and heat exchangers. In this study, liquid-cooling heat exchangers were designed and tested by varying geometry and operating conditions. In addition, liquid-cooling heat exchangers were tested to provide performance data for MPCM slurry. The liquid-cooling heat exchangers had twelve rectangular channels with flow paths of 1, 2, 4 and 12. Silicon rubber heaters were used to control the heat load to the heat exchanger. Heat input ranged from 293 to 800 W, and inlet temperatures of working fluid varied from 15S to $27^{\circ}C$. The standard deviation of surface temperature was strongly affected by the coolant of MPCM Slurry, All MPCM-cooling heat exchangers showed higher cooling performance than the water-cooling heat exchanger except one path channel heat exchanger.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the freezing phenomena in printed circuit heat exchanger (PCHE) for cryogenic liquid hydrogen vaporizer. Local freezing phenomena in hot channels should be avoided in designing PCHE for cryogenic liquid hydrogen vaporizer. Hence, the flow and thermal characteristics of PCHE is experimentally investigated to figure out the conditions under when freezing occurs. To conduct lab-scale PCHE experiment, liquid nitrogen is used as a working fluid in cold channels instead of using liquid hydrogen. Glycol water is used as a working fluid in hot channels. Based on the experimental data, ratio between mass flow rates of cold channels and that of hot channels is proposed as contour map to avoid the freezing phenomena in PCHE.

  • In this study, the heat transfer characteristics were numerically analyzed to investigate the possibility of utilizing cooling water using liquid nitrogen. From the study, as the mass flow rate of the hot fluid increased, the heat transfer rate increased by 8.9-81.7%. And lowering the inlet temperature of the hot fluid resulted in increase in the heat transfer rate by 33.8-71.5%. As for the filling level of liquid nitrogen, as higher filling level led to a decrease in the outlet temperature and an increase in the overall heat transfer coefficient.
