  • Liquid chromatography/atmospheric pressure chemical ionization-mass spectrometry (LC-APCI-MS) has been used for the determination of sulfonamides in meat. Five typical sulfonamides were selected as target compounds, and beef meat was selected as a matrix sample. As internal standards, sulfapyridine and isotope labeled sulfamethazine (${13}^C_6$-SMZ) were used. Compared to the results of recent reports, our result have shown improved precision to a RSD of 1.8% for the determination of sulfamethazine spiked with 75 ng/g level in meat.

  • Bio-liquid is a liquid by-product of the hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) reaction, converting wet biomass into solid hydrochar, bio-liquid, and bio-gas. Since bio-liquid contains various compounds, it requires efficient sampling method to extract the target compounds from bio-liquid. In this research, fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) in bio-liquid was extracted based on hollow fiber supported liquid phase microextraction (HF-LPME) and determined by Gas Chromatography-Flame Ionization Detector (GC-FID) and Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS). The well-known major components of biodiesel, including methyl myristate, palmitate, methyl palmitoleate, methyl stearate, methyl oleate, and methyl linoleate had been selected as standard materials for FAME analysis using HF-LPME. Physicochemical properties of bio-liquid was measured that the acidity was 3.30 (${\pm}0.01$) and the moisture content was 100.84 (${\pm}3.02$)%. The optimization of HF-LPME method had been investigated by varying the experimental parameters such as extraction solvent, extraction time, stirring speed, and the length of HF at the fixed concentration of NaCl salt. As a result, optimal conditions of HF-LPME for FAMEs were; n-octanol for extraction solvent, 30 min for extraction time, 1200 rpm for stirring speed, 20 mm for the HF length, and 0.5 w/v% for the concentration of NaCl. Validation of HF-LPME was performed with limit of detection (LOD), limit of quantitation (LOQ), dynamic range, reproducibility, and recovery. The results obtained from this study indicated that HF-LPME was suitable for the preconcentration method and the quantitative analysis to characterize FAMEs in bio-liquid generated from food waste via HTC reaction.

  • We developed a new method that the radiation field shape and intensity could be controlled automatically with a insertion of the liquid shielding material box having a rotatable model imitated the 3-dimensional target volume within. The molded box filled with the mercury was mounted to the tray. A acrylic model imitated the 3-dimensional target volume was fixed into the center of the interior of the box. Although the gentry rotate, the acrylic model can be returned to the original direction of the target due to the action of the gravity. The film measurements at the gantry rotation angle 0$^{\circ}$, 45$^{\circ}$, and 90$^{\circ}$, respectively were shown that the radiation intensities were modulated properly and the field shapes were conformed to the target. We verified the dose distribution for our method with a cylindrical acrylic phantom inserted a film within. In the case of the 8-field irradiation, the 80% isodose line was enclosed the target shape properly. This results show the realization of a new intensity-modulated radiation therapy(IMRT).

  • Located in Gimhae, Hwapo is the biggest riverine wetland in the province of Gyeongsangsam-do, Korea, and is a major habitat for various species. However, it is suspected that various pollutants enter the wetlands from agricultural and industrial areas. This study identifies major organic pollutants in this wetland and their sources using high performance liquid chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry during one summer season. Forty-five substances were selected for quantitative analysis using target screening, and other non-selected compounds were screened using suspect and non-target screening methods. The results were that 21 and 17 targeted substances were detected in July and August, respectively. Major pollutants in July and August were oxadiazon (July: 17-220 ng/L, August: 66-460 ng/L), carbendazim (July: 10-110 ng/L, August: 64-520 ng/L), caffeine (July: 33-1,100 ng/L, August: 56-580 ng/L), and niflumic acid (July: 23-75 ng/L, August: 42-290 ng/L). Sampling sites S4 in July and S2 in August were the major inflow points. Ten substances (tricyclazole, hexaconazole, diuron, fexofenadine, irbesartan, simetryn, cimetidine, valsartan, tebuconazole, and benzotriazole) and four metabolites (valsartan acid, azoxystrobin acid, TEB_M324c, and 2-aminobenzimidazole) were tentatively identified through suspect and non-target screening, respectively.

  • Simultaneous determination of three corticosteroids (clobetasol propionate, betamethasone dipropionate, fluticasone propionate) in moisturizers was performed by using liquid chromatography (LC) coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS). Sample preparation was conducted by the liquid-liquid extraction (LLE). Moisturizers include emulsifying agent and it forms micelles. In order to improve the extraction efficiency of corticosteroids trapped in micelle, newly developed-optimized extraction conditions which can remove the matrix effect from moisturizers was applied with various pH conditions in LLE extraction stage of sample preparation. Thus, the addition of 10 μL of 1 M HCl into moisturizers sample before extraction could improve the extraction efficiency. For the quantitative analysis, SRM table that contained specific transition of all of target corticosteroids was created. The developed method was validated for linearity, accuracy, precision, limit of detection (LOD), limit of quantization (LOQ) and recovery. Over the 0.99 r2 value was obtained in calibration standard range. Effective accuracy and precision were also obtained. LODs were below 31 ng/mL and LOQs were estimated below 94 ng/mL for all corticosteroids tested.

  • Combustion instability is critical problem in developing liquid rocket engine. There have been many efforts to solve this problem. In this study, the method was sought through the injector as part of these efforts to suppress combustion instability. If the injector can suppress the disturbance coming from the supply line as a kind of buffer it will serve to reduce combustion instability. Especially we target at gas propellant oscillation in gas-centered swirl coaxial injector. The phenomenon is simulated with acoustic excitation of speaker. The film thickness response at injector exit was measured by using a liquid film electrode. Also the response of spray to the disturbance was observed by high-speed photography. Gas-liquid momentum flux ratio and the frequency of feeding gas oscillation were changed to investigate the effect of these experimental parameters. The trend of response by varying these parameters and the cause of weak points was studied to suggest the better design of injector for suppressing combustion instability.

  • In this paper, possibility of controlling motion of a floating structure using a tuned liquid damper (TLD) is numerically investigated. A TLD is a tank partially filled with liquid. Sloshing motion of liquid inside a tank is known to suppress movement of the tank subject to external excitations at specific frequency. The effects of sloshing phenomena inside a rectangular floating body on its surge motion are investigated by varying external excitation frequency. First, a grid-refinement study is carried out to ensure validity of grid independent numerical solutions using present numerical techniques. Then, surge motion of the floating body subjected to external wave is simulated for five different excitation frequencies of which the center frequency equals to the natural frequency of internal liquid sloshing. The normalized amplitudes of surge motion of the target floating body are compared according to the excitation frequency, for the cases with and without water inside the floating body. It is shown that the motion of the floating body can be minimized by matching the sloshing natural frequency to the excitation frequency.

  • Three different dutasteride extraction methods were compared and a method based on liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) using methyl tert-butyl ether and methylene chloride was proved to be more effective than others for the extraction of dutasteride and finasteride, the internal standard (IS), from rat plasma. Additionally, a method composed of the LLE extraction, liquid chromatography, and multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) to target dutasteride and IS was validated by assessing specificity, linearity ($r^2$ = 0.9993, 5 - 400 ng/mL), sensitivity (the limit of detection: 4.03 ng/mL; the limit of quantitation: 12.10 ng/mL), accuracy (intra-day: 89.4 - 105.9%; inter-day: 84.9 - 100.9%), precision (intra-day: 0.8 - 6.9%; inter-day: 2.9 - 15.9%), and recovery (84.7 - 107.8%). Since the validated method was successfully applied to a pharmacokinetic study of dutasteride, it can be useful for the pharmacokinetic evaluation of newly developed dutasteride formulations.

  • Liquid crystal (LC) alignment on $a-SiO_x$ thin film was investigated by means of X-ray photoemission spectroscopy and optical transmittance as we varied the deposition temperature and the target-to-substrate distance. LC molecules can be aligned vertically on $a-SiO_x$ film when the stoichiometric parameter x of $a-SiO_x$ is smaller than 1.56, but they can be aligned homogeneously when x is larger than 1.56. We also found that whether liquid crystals can be aligned vertically or homogeneously on $a-SiO_x$ film can be predicted simply by measuring the change in optical transmittance by deposition of $a-SiO_x$ thin film layers.
