  • There has been a steady increase in closed waste landfill. Sanitary and contamination prevention systems such as liner system, leachate treatment, gas treatment system were not installed in unregulated waste landfill. This study was carried out to introduce the rehabilitation method and case of unregulated closed landfill.

  • At present around 50 companies have their own crushing plants, which manufacture rock into crushed sand, over around 350 different quarry throughout the nation. However, in most plants the stone dust sludge is left as it is in their plants so that they have difficulty to utilize. Furthermore, environmental pollution may be even caused due to dust generated when it is dried. Recycling is starting capturing the attention of the people working over the quarry due to the reasons described above. This research has studied in the quarters the usability as landfill liner of the stone dust sludge, which is industrial waste. We investigated what technological properties it would have after mixing the stone dust sludge with SM(sandy soil) first and then with blast furnace slag or reject ash, which is waste, and cement as the stabilizer. As the result of three tests; compacting test, strength test, and permeability test; to satisfy the regulatory guideline of the government that is the compress strength over 5 $kgf/cm^2$, the flexibility over 1 $kgf/cm^2$, and the permeability under $1.0{\times}10^{-7}cm/sec$ From this research, we could confirm that stone dust sludge would be used as waste landfill liner if it were mixed with other waste by the proper mixing ratio.

  • As a part of the development of aircraft gas turbines, combustion performance tests have been conducted in the single combustor sector. The effects of change in the amount of air supplied to the main combustion zone to the performance of the combustor, such as a pollutant emission, a liner temperature distribution and an exit temperature patterns, were studied. Emissions of CO and NOx increased with the main air-ratio and exit temperature pattern was improved. When changing the pattern of the dilution holes, it was shown that the temperature patterns on the exit plane of the combustor and the surface of liner changed depending on the main flame structure and mixing with diluent air. These observations will be applied to combustor liner designs to improve combustor durability and emissions reduction performance.

  • The microstructure of the 1020 mild steel target in the region ahead of craters, made by colliding against Cu and W-Cu shaped-charge jets. has been investigated in the present work. The region ahead of the crater impacted by the Cu shaped-charge jet reveals grain refinement implying the formation of sub-grains, while that of W-Cu one leads to martensitic transformation indicating that the region was heated up to an austenitic region which was followed by rapid cooling. The pressure of W-Cu shaped-charge jet impacting against the target when calculated is higher than that of Cu one. The microhardness of the region ahead of the crater impacted by the W-Cu shaped-charge jet is also higher than that of the Cu one. The microstructure of W-Cu slug that remains inside of the crater depicts the occurrence of the remarkable elongation of W particles during the liner collapse. The microstructural evolution of the region ahead of the crater is discussed on the basis of the pressure dependency of the ferrite/austenite transformation in the steel.

  • It is known that the adhesive interface testing of the rocket motor which using the ultrasonic wave iS superior to the other testing methods about the economically detectable abiliη of the defects. But, the signal analysis of the ultrasonic wave takes too much time and effort that the time interval of the transmitted pulse and the received pulse is too short to be separated the reflected signals because the structure of the rocket motor is multi-layers. The ultrasonic testing of rocket motor have been only applied with automatic system about extremely limited area like the debond in adhesive interface between the motor case and insulator. In this study the new technique to detect the debond between the liner and the propellant using the property of the resonance and Lamb waves was described as comparing the existence ultrasonic testing.
