The navigation algorithm developed based on the extended Kalman filter (EKF) sometimes diverges when the linearity between the measurements and the states is not preserved. In this study, new update conditions together with two conditions from previous study for gravity gradient referenced navigation (GGRN) were deduced for the filter performance. Also, the effect of each update conditions was evaluated imposing the various magnitudes of the database (DB) and the sensor errors. In case the DB and the sensor errors were supposed to 0.1 Eo and 0.01 Eo, the navigation performance was improved in the eight trajectories by using part of gravity gradient components that independently estimate states located within trust boundary. When applying only the components showing larger variation, around 200% of improvement was found. Even the DB and sensor error were supposed to 3 Eo, six update conditions improved performance in at least seven trajectories. More than five trajectories generated better results with 5 Eo error of the DB and the sensor. Especially, two update conditions successfully control divergence, and bounded the navigation error to the 1/10 level. However, these update conditions could not be generalized for all trajectories so that it is recommended to apply update conditions at the stage of planning, or as an index of precision of GGRN when combine with various types of geophysical data and algorithm.
This paper describes the design of a two-axis force sensor with two step plate beams for measuring forces in an upper-limb rehabilitation robot. The two-axis force sensor is composed of a Fz force sensor and a Ty torque sensor. The Fz force sensor measures the force applied to a patient's arm pushed by a rehabilitation robot and the force of patient's arm. The Ty torque sensor measures the torque generated by a patient's arm motion in an emergency. The structure of sensor is composed of a force transmitting block, two step plate beams and two fixture blocks. The two-axis force sensor was designed using FEM (Finite Element Method), and manufactured using strain-gages. The characteristics test of the two-axis force sensor was carried out. as a test results, the interference error of the two-axis force sensor was less than 1.24%, the repeatability error of each sensor was less than 0.03%, and the non-linearity was less than 0.02%.
Optical system has some optical and mechanical constraints. The constraints should be preserved in optimization of optical system. For the purpose, the constraints are combined with the merit function by using Lagrange's undetermined multipliers. We propose an active optimization control by using the fact that the errors of constraints are corrected with higher priority than the other errors of the merit function. In this control, the errors which have large contribution to the merit function are converted into constraints. At that time, if the errors are corrected at once, the optimization will be unstable because of their non-linearity. Hence we introduce a target rate which represents a fraction of error to be corrected, and the errors are corrected progressively. An optimization program was developed on the bases of the proposed active control, and applied to design a photographic lens system. By using the active control, we could get better results compared with conventional damped least squares method. ethod.
The planning accuracy of charged particle therapy (CPT) is subject to the accuracy of stopping power (SP) estimation. In this study, we propose a method of deriving a pseudo-triple-energy CT (pTECT) that can be achievable in the existing dual-energy CT (DECT) systems for better SP estimation. In order to remove the direct effect of errors in CT values, relative CT values according to three scanning voltage settings were used. CT values of each tissue substitute phantom were measured to show the non-linearity of the values thereby suggesting the absolute difference and ratio of CT values as parameters for SP estimation. Electron density, effective atomic number (EAN), mean excitation energy and SP were calculated based on these parameters. Two of conventional methods were implemented and compared to the proposed pTECT method in terms of residuals, absolute error and root-mean-square-error (RMSE). The proposed method outperformed the comparison methods in every evaluation metrics. Especially, the estimation error for EAN and mean excitation using pTECT were converging to zero. In this proof-of-concept study, we showed the feasibility of using three CT values for accurate SP estimation. Our suggested pTECT method indicates potential clinical utility of spectral CT imaging for CPT planning.

Current sensors are used widely in the fields of current control, monitoring, and measuring. They have become more popular with the increasing demand for smart grids in a power network, generation of renewable energy, electric cars, and hybrid cars. Although open loop Hall effect current sensors have merits, such as low cost, small size, and weight, they have low accuracy. This paper describes the design and fabrication of a 300A open loop current sensor that has high accuracy and temperature performance. The core of the current sensor was calculated numerically and the signal conditioning circuits were designed using circuit analysis software. The characteristics of the manufactured open loop current sensor of 300 A class was measured at currents up to 300 A. According to the test of the current sensor, the accuracy error and linearity error were 0.75% and 0.19%, respectively. When the temperature compensation was carried out with the relevant circuit, the temperature coefficients were less than $0.012%/^{\circ}C$ at temperatures between $-25^{\circ}C$ and $85^{\circ}C$.

1A novel bipolar linear transconductor and its application to operational transconductance amplifier(OTA) for low-voltage low-power signal processing is proposed. The transconductor consists of a npn differential-pair with emitter degeneration resistor and a pnp differential-pair connected to the npn differential-pair in cascade. The bias current of the pnp differential-pair is used with the output current of the npn differential-pair for wide linearity and temperature stability. The OTA consists of the linear transconductor and a translinear current cell followed by three current mirrors. The proposed transconductor has superior linearity and low-voltage low-power characteristics when compared with the conventional transconductor. The experimental results show that the transconductor with transconductance of 50 ${\mu}S$ has a linearity error of less than ${\pm}$0.06% over an input voltage range from -2V to +2V at supply voltage ${\pm}$3V. Power dissipation of the transconductor was 2.44 mW. A prototype OTA with a transconductance of 25 ${\mu}S$ has been built with bipolar transistor array. The linearity of the OTA was same as the proposed transconductor. The OTA circuit also exhibits a transconductance that is linearly dependent on a bias current varying over four decades with a sensitivity of 0.5 S/A.
In this study, we have investigated the dose characteristics of PTW-LinaCheck designed to detect output of medical LINAC and discussed clinical use of the detector. The reproducibility, linearity, and dose rate dependency of the dosimeter were measured for photons of 6 and 15MV and the electrons of 4, 6, 9, 12, and 16MeV. To know the error ranges of the measured data in daily output measurement, the response variations due to geometrical setup errors were measured. As a result of measurement, the error range from the geometrical setup and the reproducibility was less than ${\pm}0.6%$ for given beam qualities in daily output measurement, where the errors from the linearity and the dose rate dependency were negligible. Finally, we concluded that the LinaCheck dosimeter has a good characteristics in terms of dose and setup convenience in daily output measurement. In addition we have shown an examples of clinical use of this dosimeter for measuring daily output more than 60 days.
Optical three-dimensional (3D) measurement systems based on digital fringe projection are used in many contactless measurement applications. The system which can measure a dozen micrometers uses a liquid-crystal display (LCD) as the projection unit for generating a digital fringe pattern, because a flexible fringe pattern can be easily made by computer software. According to the gamma nonlinearity of the LCD projection unit, the digital fringe projection error on the object affects the accuracy of 3D object measurement. An improved method of LCD gamma-nonlinearity error reduction is proposed, by using the inverse function of the intensity transfer function to improve the accuracy. The improvement due to the proposed method is shown by measuring the difference in precision between a computer-generated sine wave and a camera-obtained sine wave for a standard semiconductor specimen.

The advantage of the DSM which employ multi-bit quantizer is the increased SNR at the modulator's output. Typically 6 dB improvement is effected for every one additional bit. But multi-bit quantizer evidently requires multi-bit DAC in the feedback loop. The integral linearity error of the feedback DAC has direct impact upon the system performance and degraded SNR of the system. In order to mitigate the negative impact the DAC has on the system performance, many DEM(Dynamic Element Matching) schemes has been proposed. Among the proposed schemes, four schemes(DER,CLA,ILA,DWA) are explained and its performance has been compared. DWA(Data Weighted Averaging) method shows the best performance of the all.
Applicability of hyperbolic settlement prediction method to consolidation settlement in the dredged and reclaimed ground was assessed by analyzing results of centrifuge tests modelling self-weight consolidation of soft marine clay. From literature review about self-weight consolidation of soft marine clays located in southern coast in Korea, constitutive relationships of void ratio - effective stress - permeability and typical self-weight consolidation curves with time were obtained by analyzing centrifuge model experiments. For the condition of surcharge loading, exact solution of consolidation settlement curve obtained by using Terzaghi's consolidation theory was compared with results predicted by the hyperbolic method. It was found to have its own inherent error to predict final consolidation settlement. From results of analyzing thc self-weight consolidation with time by using this method, it predicted relatively well in error range of 0.04~18% for the case of showing the linearity in the relationship between T vs T/S in the stage of consolidation degree of 60~90 %. However, it overestimated the final settlement with large errors if those relation curves were nonlinear.
