We investigate the method to measure both the present value of the matter energy density contrast and the Hubble parameter directly from the measurement of the linear growth rate which is obtained from the large scale structure of the Universe. From this method, one can obtain the value of the nuisance cosmological parameter $\Omo$ (the present value of the matter energy density contrast) within 3% error if the growth rate measurement can be reached $z >3.5$. One can also investigate the evolution of the Hubble parameter without any prior on the value of $H_0$ (the current value of the Hubble parameter). Especially, estimating the Hubble parameter are insensitive to the errors on the measurement of the normalized growth rate $f \sigma_8$. However, this method requires the high $z$ ($z >3.5$) measurement of the growth rate in order to get the less than 5% errors on the measurements of $H(z)$ at $z \leq 1.2$ with the redshift bin $\Delta z = 0.2$. Thus, this will be suitable for the next generation large scale structure galaxy surveys like WFMOS and LSST.
Lane marking detection based on a mono camera sensor provides a low cost solution to both ITS (intelligent transportation systems) and DAS (driver assistant systems). A number of methods and implementations have been reported in the literature. However, reliable detection is still an issue. Traditional approaches are mostly based on statistics or Hough transforms. However, the former approaches usually include many irrelevant detection areas, and the latter are not practical because actual lanes are not usually suitable for the approximation with linear or polynomial equations. In this paper, we focus on increasing the reliability of detection by reducing the detection of irrelevant areas while improving the detection of actual lane marking areas, which is usually a tradeoff for most conventional approaches. We use scale-space for that. Through experiments with real images obtained from various environments, we could achieve a significant improvement over traditional approaches.
The purpose of this paper is to develope a large-scale mixed integer program MIPBB. In this paper, the various issues such as branching strategies, searching and bounding strategies, storing basis information, handling numerical instability, that are important for developing a large-scale mixed integer programming program, are considered. And the experimental results of MIPBB are presented and compared to those of GLPK.
In this paper, we describe the analysis and the compensation method of the g-sensitivity error for MEMS vibratory gyroscopes. Usually, the g-sensitivity error has been ignored in the commercial MEMS gyroscope, but it deserves our attention to apply for the missile application as a tactical grade performance. Thus, it is necessary to compensate for the g-sensitivity error to reach a tactical grade performance. Generally, the g-sensitivity error seems intuitively to be a gyroscope bias error proportional to the linear acceleration. However, we assert that the g-sensitivity error mainly causes not a bias error but a scale-factor error. And we verify that the g-sensitivity scale-factor error occurs due to the non-linearity of parallel plate electrodes. Therefore, we propose the compensation method to remove the g-sensitivity scale-factor error. The experimental result showed that a proposed compensation method improved successfully the performance of the MEMS vibratory gyroscope.
Control systems are used to limit structural lateral deflections during large external loads such as winds and earthquakes. Most recently, the semi-active control approach has grown in popularity due to inexpensive control devices that consume little power. As a result, recently designed control systems have employed many semi-active control devices for the control of a structure. In the future, it is envisioned that structural control systems will be large-scale systems defined by high actuation and sensor densities. Decentralized control approaches have been used to control large-scale systems that are too complex for a traditional centralized approach, such as linear quadratic regulation (LQR). This paper describes the derivation of energy market-based control (EMBC), a decentralized approach that models the structural control system as a competitive marketplace. The interaction of free-market buyers and sellers result in an optimal allocation of limited control system resources such as control energy. The Kajima-Shizuoka Building and a 20-story benchmark structure are selected as illustrative examples to be used for comparison of the EMBC and centralized LQR approaches.

This paper presents a comprehensive approach to the evaluation of macroscopic material parameters for natural stone and quarry masonry. To that end, a reliable non-linear material model on a meso-scale is developed to cover the random arrangement of stone blocks and quasi-brittle behaviour of both basic components, as well as the impaired cohesion and tensile strength on the interface between the blocks and mortar joints. The paper thus interrelates the following three problems: (i) definition of a suitable periodic unit cell (PUC) representing a particular masonry structure; (ii) derivation of material parameters of individual constituents either experimentally or running a mixed numerical-experimental problem; (iii) assessment of the macroscopic material parameters including the tensile and compressive strengths and fracture energy.
When the hydrodynamic coefficients of the ship maneuvering equation are estimated by captive model test, it is difficult to take account of the scale effect between model and full scale ship. This scale effect problem can be overcome by processing the sea trial data with system identification. Extended Kalman filter is used as a system identification technique for the modification of the simulation equation as well as the estimation of hydrodynamic coefficients. The phenomena of simultaneous drifting of linear coefficients occur. It is confirmed that two coefficients in each pair-($Y_v$', $Y_r$' -m' u'), ($N_v$', $N_r$' )-are simultaneously drifting and all 4 coefficients are simultaneously drifting together. Particularly simultaneous drifting of 2 coefficients in each pair is more significant. It is also shown that the simultaneous drifting of 4 coefficients can be reduced by choosing the input data which have the random v'/r' curve and 4 coefficients are estimated within 2-4% error, which may be noise level. So, it is recommended to operate the rudder randomly in sea trial or model test for the application of system identification technique.

This paper investigates the performance of IEEE 802.11p wireless access in vehicular environments (WAVE) system in small-scale fading models reported by Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech). We redesign the small-scale fading models to be applied to the computer simulation and develop the IEEE 802.11p WAVE physical layer simulator to provide the bit error rate and packet error rate performances. Moreover, a new channel estimator using decision directed channel estimation and linear minimum mean square error smoothing is proposed in order to improve the performance of the conventional least square channel estimator using two identical long training symbols. The simulation results are satisfactorily coincident with the scenarios of Georgia Tech report, and the proposed channel estimator significantly outperforms the conventional channel estimator.
A Linear Approximated Inverse Almost Ideal Demand System, suggested by Eales and Unnevehr, is estimated with monthly data set of Korean fruits consumption. LA/IAIDS consists of 6 demand equations which correspond to domestically produced Hanrabong, overwintering mandarin, strawberry, melon and tomato with imported orange. The results indicate that price and scale flexibilities are negative, as expected. And the significance is that a 10% increase in imported orange quantity is associated with 5.5% declines in the price of Korean Hanrabong while the price of other fruits is minimally affected. In addition, the estimate of scale flexibility of Hanrabong (-2.96) is much smaller than any other fruit. Hanrabong farmer might be in the face of deficit operation as a consequence of the substitution effect if orange would be imported in accordance with the Korea-U.S. free trade agreement.
Rather than traditional manufacturing processes, miniature manufacturing processes usually require sophisticated equipments and characteristics of the processes of high cost and of low productivity. Contrarily, miniature stamping process can be realized in a low cost high productivity with relatively inexpensive equipments. In the meso scale, mechanical properties, especially work hardening characteristics, are discovered to be statically scattered and size dependent by intensive experimental and numerical investigations, which make the stamping process hard to apply to the miniature manufacturing. In this study, dual purpose experimental device that can be used for both miniature scale tensile test and miniature scale stamping by simple change of attachment has been developed. For the tensile test, the elongation has been measured with a combined use of a CCD camera and a linear encoder in order to account for the possibility of slippage between specimen and the grip and to ensure the accuracy of the measurement, while load has been measured with a load cell. To satisfy the required material properties for stamping, optimal annealing condition has been found by examining the microstructure of annealed specimen.
