In this paper, we suggest a new direct method for mage segmentation using texture and color information combined through a multivariate linear discriminant algorithm. The color texture is computed in nin 3${\times}$3 masks obtained from each 3${\times}$3${\times}$3 spatio-spectral neighborhood in the image using the classical haralick and Pressman texture features. Among these 9${\times}$28 texture features the best set was extracted from a training set. The resulting set of 10 features were used to segment an image into four different regions. The resulting segmentation was Compared to classical color and texture segmentation methods using both box classifiers and maximum likelihood classification. It compared favourably on the test image from a Fastred-Lightgreen stained prostatic histological tissue section based on visual inspection. The classification accuracy of 97.5% for the new method obtained on the training data was also among the best of the tested methods. If these results hold for a larger set of images, this method should be a useful tool for segmenting images where both color and texture are relevant for the segmentation process.
A low dropout (LDO) regulator with a wide-bandwidth is proposed in this paper. The regulator features a Human Body Model (HBM) 8kV-class high robustness ElectroStatic Discharge (ESD) protection circuit, and two error amplifiers (one with low gain and wide bandwidth, and the other with high gain and narrow bandwidth). The dual error amplifiers are located within the feedback loop of the LDO regulator, and they selectively amplify the signal according to its ripples. The proposed LDO regulator is more efficient in its regulation process because of its selective amplification according to frequency and bandwidth. Furthermore, the proposed regulator has the same gain as a conventional LDO at 62 dB with a 130 kHz-wide bandwidth, which is approximately 3.5 times that of a conventional LDO. The proposed device presents a fast response with improved load and line regulation characteristics. In addition, to prevent an increase in the area of the circuit, a body-driven fabrication technique was used for the error amplifier and the pass transistor. The proposed LDO regulator has an input voltage range of 2.5 V to 4.5 V, and it provides a load current of 100 mA in an output voltage range of 1.2 V to 4.1 V. In addition, to prevent damage in the Integrated Circuit (IC) as a result of static electricity, the reliability of IC was improved by embedding a self-produced 8 kV-class (Chip level) ESD protection circuit of a P-substrate-Triggered Silicon Controlled Rectifier (PTSCR) type with high robustness characteristics.

Dual-stage servo system for super-high density HDD has the chances of being composed of the coarse actuator(VCM) for track-seeking control and the fine actuator(microactuator) for-following control in near future. This paper presents the concept design of dual-stage servo system and the track-following control using an electrostatic microactuator for super-high density HDD. The electrostatic microactuator is designed and fabricated by MEMS(micro-electro-mechanical system) process. Both the nonlinear plant(voltage/displacement-to-electrostatic force) and the linear plant(electrostatic force-to-displacement) of the microactuator are established. Inverse function of the nonlinear plant is employed for a feedforward nonlinear compensator design. And feedforward control effect of this compensator is shown by time-domain experiments. A track-following feedback controller is designed using the feedback nonlinear compensator which is derived from the feedforward nonlinear compensator. The track-following control experiment is done to show the control efficiency of the proposed control system. And, excellent track-following control performance(2.21kHz servo-bandwidth, 7.51dB gain margin, $50.98^{\circ}$phase margin) is achieved by the proposed control system.
In this paper, a new method for finger vein recognition is proposed. Researchers are recently interested in the finger vein recognition since it is a good way to avoid the forgery in finger prints recognition and the inconveniences in obtaining images of the iris for iris recognition. The vein images are processed to obtain the line shaped vein images through the local histogram equalization and a thinning process. This thinned vein images are processed for matching, using a new matching algorithm, named HS(HeeSung) matching algorithm. This algorithm yields an excellent recognition rate when it is applied to the curve-linear images processed through a thinning or an edge detection. In our experiment with the finger vein images, the recognition rate has reached up to 99.20% using this algorithm applied to 650finger vein images(130person ${\times}$ 5images each). It takes only about 60 milliseconds to match one pair of images.

In this study, the LCM was applied as the preliminary study for the cutterhead design of TBM and the drilling performance evaluation. The optimum cutting condition is obtained from the LCM tests and the effects of the design factors of IBM cutterhead, such as penetration depth and cutter spacing, on drilling performance are estimated. In this study, hence, to predict the accurate performance of TBM, instead of one-dimensional penetration depth applied in existing studies, three-dimensional cutting volume was quantified and measured. For this, the digital photogrammetry technique was applied to the LCM tests. Also, AUTODYN 2D was applied to investigate the applicability of the numerical analysis technique to simulate the cutting process of rock by the TBM disc cutter.
Underwriting refers to the process that the insurance company measures the potential risk of the future clients and decide whether insuring them with current premium. Although the traditional underwriting system used in Korean automobile insurance market is easy to understand, it is not based on a reliable statistical procedure. In this paper, we propose to apply the generalized additive model into construction of underwriting system, which is based on statistical analysis. We use automobile insurance data in Korea and apply our approach to the data. The results from the empirical analysis would be useful even for determining the significance of each variable in calculating automobile insurance premium.

Controlling the stick and slip motions of the contact lines in a confined geometry comprised of a spherical lens with a flat substrate is useful for manufacturing polymer ring patterns. We used a sphere on a flat geometry, by which we could control the interfaces of the solution, vapor and substrate. By this method, hundreds of concentric ring-pattern formations of a linear conjugated polymer, poly [2-methoxy-5-(2-thylhexyloxy)-1,4-phenylenevinylene] (MEH-PPV), were generated with excellent regularity over large areas after complete solvent evaporation. Subsequently, the MEH-PPV ring patterns played a role as a directed template to organize highly regular concentric rings of single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWCNTs); when a droplet of the SWCNT suspension in water was casted onto the prepared substrate, hydrophobic polymer patterns confined the water dispersed SWCNTs in between the hydrophilicized $SiO_2/Si$ substrate. As the solvent evaporated, SWCNT-rings were formed in between MEH-PPV rings with controlled density. Finally, we used a lift-off process to produce SWCNT patterns by the removal of a sacrificial polymer template with organic solvent. We also fabricated a field effect transistor using self-assembled SWCNT networks on a $SiO_2/Si$ substrate.

The power spectral density (PSD) for the road surface roughness on the bridges of minor roads in Wonju city and Hoengseong-gun, Gangwon-do is presented. To obtain the PSD, the road surface roughness on 18 different bridges with various superstructure type and span is measured by GPS at every 10 to 30cm interval. Assuming the PSD as the stationary normal probability process with zero mean value, the PSD of measured road surface roughness is obtained by applying the Maximum Entropy Method (MEM). A simple formula in evaluating the PSD of RC slab bridge, Rahmen bridge and PSC I-girder bridge which is applicable to the dynamic response analysis of bridges considering the road surface roughness is proposed. Using the calculated PSD curves, the road surface conditions on the 18 bridges are evaluated. The statistical relationship between the PSD and the IRI is presented by applying linear regression and correlation analysis.

The co-bonded dissimilar composite under a wide range of temperature change shows thermal distortion due to the differences in thermal expansion characteristics of the composite materials. Analysis of the thermal expansion characteristics of each composite is required for the design of co-bonded dissimilar composite structure with considering the shape distortion during the manufacturing process. In this work, digital image correlation (DIC) technique is introduced for measuring the thermal distortion characteristics of co-bonded dissimilar composite specimen, carbon/epoxy and silica/phenolic. The thermal distortion of co-bonded dissimilar composite specimen is numerically estimated and compared with the experiments. The estimated results is successfully validated using the measured results.

Objectives: In three-dimensional computed tomography (3D-CT), the cant is evaluated by measuring the distance between the reference plane (or line) and the tooth. The purpose of this study was to determine the horizontal skeletal reference plane that showed the greatest correlation with clinical evaluation. Materials and Methods: The subjects were 15 patients who closed their eyes during the CT image taking process. The menton points of all patients deviated by more than 3 mm. In the first evaluation, clinical cant was measured. The distance from the inner canthus to the ipsilateral canine tip and the distance from the eyelid to the ipsilateral first molar were obtained. The distance between the left and right sides was also measured. In the second evaluation, skeletal cant was measured. Six reference planes and one line were used for the evaluation of occlusal cant: 1) FH plane R: Or.R - Or.L - Po.R; 2) FH plane L: Or.R - Or.L - Po.L; 3) F. Ovale plane R: Rt.F.Ovale - Lt.F.Ovale - Or.R; 4) F. Ovale plane L: Rt.F.Ovale - Lt.F.Ovale - Or.L; 5) FZS plane R: Rt.FZS - Lt.FZS - Po.R; 6) FZS plane R: Rt.FZS - Lt.FZS - Po.L, and; 7) FZS line: Rt.FZS - Lt.FZS. Results: The clinical and skeletal cants were compared using linear regression analysis. The FH plane R, FH plane L, and FZS line showed the highest correlation (P<0.05). Conclusion: The FH plane R and FH plane L are the most appropriate horizontal reference plane in evaluation of occlusal cant on 3D-CT.
