In a wireless communication RF transmitter, the output of a quadrature modulator (QM) is distorted by not only the linear imperfection features such as in/quadrature-phase (I/Q) input gain imbalance, local phase imbalance, and local gain imbalance but also the nonlinear imperfection features such as direct current (DC) offset and mixer nonlinearity related to in-band spurious signal. In this paper, we propose the unified QM model to analyze the combined effects of the linear and nonlinear imperfection features on the performance of the QM. The unified QM model consists of two identical nonlinear systems and modified I/Q inputs based on the two-port nonlinear mixer model. The unified QM model shows that the output signals can be expressed by mixer circuit parameters such as intercept point and gain as well as the imperfection features. The proposed approach is validated by not only simulation but also measurement.

In this paper, we consider the design of $H_\infty$ high-gain state feedback control for time-delayed linear systems with limited actuator capacities. The high-gain control means that the control permits the predetermined degree of saturation. Based on new Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional, we derive a result in the form of matrix inequalities. The matrix inequalities are consisted of LMIs those confirm the positive definiteness of Lyapunov- Krasovskii functional, satisfaction of predetermined degree of saturation, reachable set and $L_2$ gain constraint. The result is dependent on the bound of time-delay and its rate, predetermined degree of saturation, actuator capacity, and the allowed size of disturbances. Finally, we give a numerical example to show the effectiveness and usefulness of our result.
A two-degrees-of-freedom servosystem for step-type reference signals has been preposed, in which the integral compensation is effective only when there is a modeling error or a disturbance input. this paper considers robust stability of the servosystem incorporating an observer against both structured and unstructured uncertainties of the plant. A condition is obtained as a linear matrix inequality, under which the servosystem is robustly stable independently of the gain of the integral compensator. This result implies that we can tune the gain to achieve a desirable transient response of the servpsystem preserving robust stability. An example is presented to demonstrate that under the robust stability condition, the transient response can be improved by increasing the gain of the integral compensator.
An observatory termed 'Steel Swing' has been developed, where a 15000 kg pendulum is hanged from a stiff steel frame. A building element can be tested after inserted between the pendulum and the frame. Free vibration, forced vibration tests and earthquake monitoring were performed on an exposed-type steel column base. The response records monitored during natural earthquakes were used to identify the vibration property of the specimen. Identified system gain was approximated by a theoretical gain of linear SDOF system, and the response calculated based on such a linear system agrees with the monitored response fairly well. This research technique can be applied to check the behaviors of new materials and new details of connections and the safety of non-structural elements as well.
This paper investigates a PID fuzzy controller for output voltage regulation of a current-doubler-rectified asymmetric half-bridge (CDRAHB) DC/DC converter. The controller is a PD-type fuzzy controller in parallel with a linear integral controller. The PD type fuzzy controller is for providing the varying gain at the different operating conditions to regulate the output voltage. The linear integral controller is for removing the steady-state error of the output voltage. In order to show the outstanding dynamic characteristics of the proposed controller, PSIM simulation studies are carried out and compared to the results for which the conventional loop gain design method is used.
In this paper, we consider the design of gam scheduled controllers for linear systems with input saturation. We obtain a reachable set and a control gain, which guarantees that the controls are never saturated inside this reachable set and that the $L_2$ gain is minimized, from matrix inequalities. This proposed gain scheduled control gives better performance than that of static control case, and we present the simulation results to show the usefulness of the proposed control.
A GaAs power metal semiconductor field effect transistor (MESFET) operating at a voltage as low as 3.3V has been developed with the best performance for digital handheld phone. The device has been fabricated on an epitaxial layer with a low-high doped structure grown by molecular beam epitaxy. The MESFET, fabricated using $0.8{\mu}m$ design rule, showed a maximum drain current density of 330 mA/mm at $V_{gs}$ =0.5V and a gate-to-drain breakdown volt-age of 28 V. The MESFET tested at a 3.3 V drain bias and a 900 MHz operation frequency displayed an output power of 32.5-dBm and a power added efficiency of 68%. The associate power gain at 20 dBm input power and the linear gain were 12.5dB and 16.5dB, respectively. Two tone testing measured at 900.00MHz and 900.03MHz showed that a third-order intercept point is 49.5 dBm. The power MESFET developed in this work is expected to be useful as a power amplifying device for digital hand-held phone because the high linear gain can deliver a high power added efficiency in the linear operation region of output power and the high third-order intercept point can reduce the third-order intermodulation.

Digital microwave wideband receiver including linear amplifier, analog-to-digital converter(ADC) and digital signal processor is able to analyze its performance using sensitivity and dynamic range of system. Determination of gain, third-order intermodulation products and ADC characteristics and design criteria for the linear amplifier chain is essential problem for sensitive and dynamic range. Also, if there are two signals with frequencies very close, digital signal processor must be able to separate the two signals. In this paper, we measured dynamic range as gain was changed and determined gain value for the proper sensitivity and dynamic range and high resolution spectrum estimation was used to separate two close signals.

A simple experimental method to design gain-flattened erbium-doped fiber amplifier is proposed and demonstrated based on the two linear relations between the output power and the pump power, and between the gain and the length of the eribium-doped fiber at the gain flattened state. The spectral gain variation of the eribium-doped fiber amplifiber constructed by this method was less than 0.4 dB over 12 nm (1,545~1,557nm) wavelength region. The gain flatness is also controlled within 0.4 dB over the input power range of -30~-15dBm/ch through the feedback control utilizing the amplified spontaneous emission power in the 1,530 nm region.

In this paper, a millimeter-wave multi-beam antenna is studied by rotating the antipodal linear tapered slot antenna(ALTSA) with respect to a center is successfully designed. In order to lowering the SLL and enhancing the isolation between the ALTSA elements, a row of metallic via is inserted between the ALTSAs. A 9 beams antenna is designed and experimented at Ka band. The measured and simulated results agree well with each other. The antenna can provide horizontal wide angle coverage up to ${\pm}62^{\circ}$. The gain of each beam can achieve about 12.5 dB. The mutual coupling between ports is all below 20 dB.
