The conventional output filter design methods of a voltage source inverter includes two main problems: the performance is not sure to satisfy the specification under the nonlinear load; the designed filter must be occasionally modified when the controller is designed. In this paper, we analyze the relation between both linear and nonlinear loads, the output voltage magnitude, LC lowpass filter parameters, and the control response time. Upon the basis, both filter and controller are simultaneously designed for the performance to satisfy the specification under the nonlinear load as well as linear load. The proposed method sharply enhances the reliability of the performance. P.U is used for the method to be applied to all the quantities of the system. The simulation and the experiment of the proposed method carried out respectively to verify the validity.

This paper presents a digital control solution to process capacitor current feedback of high performance single-phase UPS for non-linear loads. In all UPS the goal is to maintain the desired output voltage waveform and RMS value over all unknown load conditions and transient response. The proposed UPS uses instantaneous load voltage and filter capacitor current feedback, which is based on the double regulation loop such as the outer voltage control loop and inner current control loop. The proposed DSP-based digital-controlled PWM inverter system has fast dynamic response and low total harmonic distortion (THD) for nonlinear load. The control system was implemented on a 32bit Floating-point DSP controller TMS320C32 and tested on a 5[KVA] IGBT based inverter switching at 11[Khz]. The validity of the proposed scheme is investigated through simulation and experimental results.
This study presents a new beam-column model comprising material nonlinearity and joint flexibility to predict the nonlinear response of reinforced concrete structures. The nonlinear behavior of connections has an outstanding role on the nonlinear response of reinforced concrete structures. In presented research, the joint flexibility is considered applying a rotational spring at each end of the member. To derive the moment-rotation behavior of beam-column connections, the relative rotations produced by the relative slip of flexural reinforcement in the joint and the flexural cracking of the beam end are taken into consideration. Furthermore, the considered spread plasticity model, unlike the previous models that have been developed based on the linear moment distribution subjected to lateral loads includes both lateral and gravity load effects, simultaneously. To confirm the accuracy of the proposed methodology, a simply-supported test beam and three reinforced concrete frames are considered. Pushover and nonlinear dynamic analysis of three numerical examples are performed. In these examples the nonlinear behavior of connections and the material nonlinearity using the proposed methodology and also linear flexibility model with different number of elements for each member and fiber based distributed plasticity model with different number of integration points are simulated. Comparing the results of the proposed methodology with those of the aforementioned models describes that suggested model that only uses one element for each member can appropriately estimate the nonlinear behavior of reinforced concrete structures.

In this paper, the nonlinear free and forced vibration responses of sandwich nano-beams with three various functionally graded (FG) patterns of reinforced carbon nanotubes (CNTs) face-sheets are investigated. The sandwich nano-beam is resting on nonlinear Visco-elastic foundation and is subjected to thermal and electrical loads. The nonlinear governing equations of motion are derived for an Euler-Bernoulli beam based on Hamilton principle and von Karman nonlinear relation. To analyze nonlinear vibration, Galerkin's decomposition technique is employed to convert the governing partial differential equation (PDE) to a nonlinear ordinary differential equation (ODE). Furthermore, the Multiple Times Scale (MTS) method is employed to find approximate solution for the nonlinear time, frequency and forced responses of the sandwich nano-beam. Comparison between results of this paper and previous published paper shows that our numerical results are in good agreement with literature. In addition, the nonlinear frequency, force response and nonlinear damping time response is carefully studied. The influences of important parameters such as nonlocal parameter, volume fraction of the CNTs, different patterns of CNTs, length scale parameter, Visco-Pasternak foundation parameter, applied voltage, longitudinal magnetic field and temperature change are investigated on the various responses. One can conclude that frequency of FG-AV pattern is greater than other used patterns.

Seakeeping analysis has progressed from the linear frequency-domain 2D strip method to the nonlinear timedomain 3D panel method. Nevertheless, the violent free surface flows such as slamming and green water on deck are beyond the scope of traditional panel methods based on potential theory. Recently, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) has become an attractive numerical tool that can effectively deal with the violent free surface flows. ABS, as a classification society, is putting forth a significant amount of effort to implement the CFD technology to the advanced strength assessment of modern commercial ships and high-speed naval craft. The main objective of this study is to validate the CFD technology as a seakeeping tool for ship design considering fully nonlinear three-dimensional slamming and green water on deck. The structural loads on a large container carrier were successfully calculated from the CFD analysis and validated with segmented model test measurements.

A nonlinear dynamic response structural optimization process is proposed for the television (TV) packing system that protects the damage from a drop situation using the equivalent static loads (ESLs). Topology optimization using ESLs is carried out for conceptual design, and shape optimization using stress ESLs for a virtual model is performed for detailed design. Stress ESLs are static loads that generate the same displacement as well as the stress fields of linear static analysis as those of nonlinear dynamic analysis. Thus, the response of nonlinear dynamic analysis can be utilized as a constraint in the linear static structural optimization. An actual example is solved to validate the process. The drop test of a television packaging system is analyzed by LS-DYNA, and NASTRAN is used for optimization.

In part I of this papter Nonlinear Response Optimization using Equivalent Static Loads (NROESL) method/algorithm is developed to conduct optimization for nonlinear behavior structures. The method/algorithm is also verified to show its convergency and optimality. In this present paper, the NROESL algorithm is applied to several structural problems with geometric and/or material nonlinearity. Conventional optimization with sensitivity analysis using the finite difference method is also applied to the same examples. The results of the optimizations are compared. The proposed method is very efficient and derives good solutions.
The objective of this study is to investigate the dynamic behavior of elastic beams subjected to moving loads. Although analytical methods are available, they have limitations with respect to complicated structures. The use of computer technology in recent years is an effective way to solve the problem; thus using the latest technology this study establishes a finite-element solution procedure to investigate dynamic behaviors of a typical elastic beam having a set of constant geometric properties and various span lengths. Both the dead load of the beam and traffic load are applied in which the traffic load is considered a concentrated moving force with various traveling passage speeds on the beam. Dynamic behaviors including deflection, shear, and bending moment due to moving loads are obtained by both analytical and finite element methods; for simple structures, they have an excellent agreement. The numerical results show that based on analytical methods the fundamental mode is good enough to estimate the dynamic deflection along the beam, but is not sufficient to simulate the total response of the shear force or the bending moment. The linear dynamic behavior of the elastic beams subjected to multiple exciting loads can easily be found by linear superposition, and the geometric nonlinear results caused by large deformation and axial force of the beam are always underestimated with only a few exceptions which are indicated. In order to make the results useful, they have been nondimensionalized and presented in graphical form.
In this paper, non-linear dynamic buckling behaviour of laminated composite curved panels subjected to dynamic in-plane axial compressive loads is studied using finite element methods. The work is carried out using the finite element software ABAQUS. The curved panels are modelled with S4R element and the nonlinear dynamic equilibrium equations are solved using the ABAQUS/Explicit algorithm. The effect of aspect ratio, radius of curvature and thickness are studied. The importance of orientation of plies in the direction of loading is also reiterated in this study. Vol'mir's criterion is used to calculate the dynamic buckling loads. The panels are subjected to rectangular pulse load of various amplitude and durations and the responses are observed. For particular loading amplitude, a critical value of loading duration is observed beyond which the variation of dynamic buckling load is insignificant. It is also observed that, the value of dynamic bucking load reduces as the loading duration is increased though the reduction is not much after a particular loading duration.

Nonlinear loads with harmonics exist in an actual power system where harmonic currents make voltage distortion. The sum of reactive power measured at individual load is different from the measured reactive power at a bus in a power system with linear and non-linear loads. In this study, ANN(artificial neural network) load modeling technique with consideration of harmonics is introduced for more accurate component load modeling and an impact coefficient is proposed for aggregation of component loads. Results of this research show more accurate load modeling method. Since precise data for power system analysis can be acquired, the proposed method will be used for power system planning and maintenance.
