  • A variable bit rate speech coder is presented. The coder is based on the observation that a speech signal can be viewed as a combination of piecewise linear signals in a short time period. The encoder detects the sample points where the slope of the signal changes, which are called the inflection points in this paper. The coder transmits the location and value for the detected inflection sample, but only the location information for the noninflection samples. In the decoder, the noninflection samples are estimated with interpolation of the received information. Several factors affecting the performance of the coder have been tested through simulation. Simulation results show that the linear interpolation produces 1 ~ 5 dB improvement over the cubic spline interpolation. And the -law companding does not provide any benefit when it is applied before the inflection detection. With low threshold values in the inflection point detection, the coder shows better MOS and more than 16 dB improvement in SNR compared to the continuously variable slope delta modulation (CVSDM).

  • A scheme for missing-trace interpolation of linear events is proposed. For a two-dimensional seismic dataset which contains linear events, a post-interpolation spectrum can be estimated from a portion of the original aliased spectrum. The restoration of missing trace data is accomplished by minimizing the energy after applying a filter which has an amplitude spectrum that is inverse to the estimated spectrum.

  • A Digital Terrain Model (DTM) consists of two components;one is sampling of the terrain imformation, and the other is interpolation. The present study aims at the investigation of the accuracy and efficiency of Moving Average and Linear Prediction interpolation methods by numerical experiment. Basic input data are the elerations in square grid which procured by photogrammetry, and the accuracy of each interpolation is investigated on different grid size, terrain type and pattern of reference points.

  • Recently, the JCT-VC is developing the next generation video coding standard that is called HEVC. HEVC has adopted many coding technologies increasing coding efficiency. For chroma interpolation, DCT-based interpolation filter showing better performance than the linear filter in H.264/AVC was adopted in HEVC. In this paper, a combined filter that utilizes the FIR filter and the linear filter in H.264/AVC is proposed to increase coding efficiency. When the proposed method is compared with DCT-based interpolation filter, the experimental results for various sequences show that the average BD-rate improvements on chroma U and V components are 0.9% and 1.1%, respectively, in the high efficiency case of random access structure, those on U and V components are 1.1% and 1.1%, respectively, in the low complexity case of random access structure, those on U and V components are 0.9% and 1.4%, respectively, in the high efficiency case of low delay structure, and those on U and V components are 1.8% and 1.8%, respectively, in the low complexity case of low delay structure.

  • In this paper, we propose a linear interpolation method based on patch information generated from a low - resolution image for generating a super resolution image in a single image. Using the regression model of the global space, which is a conventional super resolution generation method, results in poor quality in general because of lack of information to be referred to a specific region. In order to compensate for these results, we propose a method to extract meaningful information by dividing the region into patches in the process of super resolution image generation, analyze the constituents of the image matrix region extended for super resolution image generation, We propose a method of linear interpolation based on optimal patch information that is searched by correlating patch information based on the information gathered before the interpolation process. For the experiment, the original image was compared with the reconstructed image with PSNR and SSIM.

  • This paper presents a kernel analysis of weighted linear interpolation based on even-odd decomposition (EOD). The EOD method has advantages in that it provides low-complexity and improved image quality than the CCI method. However, since the kernel of EOD has not studied before and its analysis has not been addressed yet, this paper proposes the kernel function and its analysis. The kernel function is divided into odd and even terms. And then, the kernel is accomplished by summing the two terms. The proposed kernel is adjustable by a parameter. The parameter influences efficiency in the EOD based WLI process. Also, the kernel shapes are proposed by adjusting the parameter. In addition, the discussion with respect to the parameter is given to understand the parameter. A preliminary experiment on the kernel shape is presented to understand the adjustable parameter and corresponding kernel.

  • Recently, modern society has come up with the importance of video processing as various imaging systems have developed. However, deterioration occurs in the process of transmitting, processing, and storing video data for various reasons. Deterioration will damage the original image, and the typical noise is Salt and Pepper noise. There are A-TMF, CWMF, and linear interpolation as the means to eliminate Salt and Pepper noise. However, these methods show somewhat poor noise abatement performance in high-density noise areas. Therefore, this paper proposes an algorithm to eliminate noise using modified linear interpolation. To prove the validity of the proposed algorithm, PSNR, Profile was used to compare it with existing methods.

  • Image interpolation, a technology that converts low resolution images into high resolution images, has been widely used in various image processing fields such as CCTV, web-cam, and medical imaging. This technique is based on the fact that the statistical distributions of the white Gaussian noise and the difference between the interpolated image and the original image is similar to each other. The proposed algorithm is composed of three steps. In first, the interpolated image is derived by random image interpolation. In second, we derive weighting functions that are used to apply non-local mean filtering. In the final step, the prediction error is corrected by performing non-local mean filtering by applying the selected weighting function. It can be considered as a post-processing algorithm to further reduce the prediction error after applying an arbitrary image interpolation algorithm. Simulation results show that the proposed method yields reasonable performance.

  • Site classification of IBC and KBC is based on the ft-kips unit system and is not friendly for the linear interpolation of the site coefficients due to the implicit relationship between a site class and site coefficients, defining a site class by the range of the soil properties, not by a single soil property. Also, the site class definition of KBC has too wide range of soil properties for each soil class. making the structural engineers difficult to estimate the site coefficients for the diverse soil layers. In this study, a new site classification in SI unit system was proposed for the seismic design codes of KBC etc., and the comparison of the site coefficients of $F_{a}\;and\;F_{v}$ was also performed to investigate the possibility of the linear interpolation of the site coefficients with the proposed new site classification. According to the study results, it was more reasonable for the linear interpolation of the site coefficients to utilize the proposed new site classification considered the Sl unit system and the soil characteristics of the 30m soil layer beneath the shallow embedded foundation, and the linear interpolation of the acceleration coefficients for the design spectrum can be performed more reasonably defining the site coefficients for the representative shear wave velocities of each site class. With the study results, a new site classification, and the linear interpolation permitted acceleration coefficients fer the design spectrum were proposed for the modification of the seismic design regulations of KBC.
