Design of Crosstalk Compensation Circuit in TFT-LCDs (박막트랜지스터 액정표시소자의 화소간섭 보상회로설계)

  • In TFT-LCDs, as the display size area becomes larger, and the resolution higher, we have to consider the image degradation effects due to the incorporation of the TFT-LCD parameters such as the data-line resistance, the common electrode resistance, the data-line to common parasitic capacitance, and the output characteristics of driver ICs. One of the degradation effects is crosstalk resulting from the coupling between the source bus-line and common electrode. Since a source signal which represents a large number of display data is supposed to vary frequently, the common signal level is affected through the coupling effect, resulting in the degradation of nearby pixel drive signals. Therefore, we proposed a method to compensate for this source-common electrode coupling effect, we also designed and experimented the feasibility of our crosstalk compensation circuit in the actual TFT-LCD. We saw that the newly designed compensation circuit greatly reduced the crosstalk in display pattern image.

Numerical Simulation of Directional Spreading Characteristics in a Snake Type Wave Generator considering Side Wall Reflection

  • Numerical simulation based on the superposition of ring waves generated by the linear periodic source distributions for the plunger type wave maker was accomplished. The characteristics of directional spreading function were investigated. Mirror images are also introduced to consider reflections of side-wall together with the reflection coefficient to account for the imperfect reflection from the real side wall in the long experimental towing tank. Unexpected spurious waves, resulting from the combined effect of finite breadth of segmented wave maker, wavelength and main wave maker, wavelength and main wave propagating direction, were observed in the line source method and also in the analysis of the directivity. The influence of spurious waves to the directional spreading function was also investigated.

  • Contact resistance of interface between the channel layers and various S/D electrodes was investigated by transmission line method. Different electrodes such as Ti/Au, a-IZO, and multilayer of a-IGZO/Ag/a-IGZO were compared in terms of contact resistance, using the transmission line model. The a-IGZO TFTs with a-IGZO/Ag/a-IGZO of S/D electrodes showed good performance and low contact resistance due to the homo-junction with channel layer.

Effects of source bias on the programming characteristics of submicron EPROM/Flash EEPROM (Submicron EPROM/flash EEPROM의 프로그램 특성에 대한 소오스 바이어스의 영향)

  • Recently, the flash memory has been abstracting great attention in the semiconductor market in the world because of its potential applications as mass storage devices. One of the most significant barriers to the scalling-down of the stacked-gate devices such as EPROM's and flash EEPROM's is the large subthreshold leakage in the unselected cells connected with the bit line of a selected cell in the array during programming. The large subthreshold leakge is majorly due to the capacitive coupling between the floating gates of the unselectd cells and the bit line of selected cell. In this paper, a new programming method to redcue significantly the drain turn-on leakage in the unselected cells during programming has been studied, where a little positive voltage (0.25-0.75V) is applied to the soruce during programming unlike the conventional programming method in which the source is grounded. The resutls of the PISCES simulations and the electrical measurements for the standard EPROM with 0.35.mu.m effective channel length and 1.0.mu.m effective channel width show that the subthreshold leakage in the unselectd cells is significantly large when the source is grounded, whereas it is negligibly small when the source is biased ot a little positive voltage during programming. On the other hadn, the positive bias on the source is found to have little effects on the programming speed of the EPROM.

  • The field based morphing requires the user to set most of the control lines manually which requires much time and skill to get satisfactory results. This thesis proposes a method to acquire semi-automation of image morphing through first acquiring shape information from the source image and the target image, then after the user manually designates the least amount of a pair of feature points, these are used as standards for polygon based vertex search to set the appropriate control line to the source mage and target image, and then using the ratio of control line lengths and space. Using the proposed method, the user can reduce the time setting the control line and unskilled persons can get natural image morphing results while designating the least amount control line.

  • This paper introduces a control method of series active power filter that compensate harmonic currents and eliminate a neutral line current in 3 phase 3 wire and 3 phase 4 wire power system with harmonic voltage source. These harmonic currents and neutral line current are caused by a nonlinear loads such as diode rectifiers and thyristor converters. Proposed methode extracts a voltage reference directly from performance function without phase transformation. Therefore, the control method is simpler than any other conventional methods. Experimental results for 3-phase 3-wire and 3-phase 4-wire series active power filter system were shown to verify the effectiveness of this control method.

Limitations and improvement of the in situ measurements of ground thermal conductivity in Korea (국내 지중열전도도 측정 방법의 한계 및 개선 방향)

  • The borehole heat exchanger of Geothermal Heat Pump (GHP) system should be sustainable and cost effective for long term operation. To guaranty the performance of the system thermal Response Tests (TRTs) with simple recommended procedures have been applied in many countries. Korea government developed a standard TRT procedure in order to control the quality on GHP projects. In the TRT procedure interpretation method has a rule that data set has to be interpreted by the line source model(LSM). The LSM employes some assumptions that surrounding medium is homogeneous and the line source is infinite and constant heat flux, however real ground condition is unisotropic and heterogeneous, and showing regional or local ground water flows in many cases. We need to develope improved evaluation models to estimate accurate ground thermal conductivity with respect to geological and influence of ground water because current TRT standard test procedure has limitations to be applied for every locations and system. This study surveyed the uncertainty of the thermal parameters from the interpretation method considering different evaluation period. The interpretation of 208 TRT data sets represents limitations of LSM application that some obtained ground thermal conductivities are statistically unstable and convergence time of ground thermal conductivity over test period shows trends responding the length of test period. This evaluation study will be helpful to provide some effective procedure for the thermal parameter estimation and to complement current TRT standard procedure.

AE source on-line localization on material with unknown acoustic wave propagation velocity (전파속도를 알수 없는 재료에서의 AE 발생위치 온라인 측정)

  • The ability to locate the defects in materials is one of the major attrations of the acoustic emission(AE) technique. The most conventional method for planar AE source localization is to place three or more AE sensors on the plate and to determine the source position by measuring the differences in the arrival times of the AE wave at the sensors, which is called as triangulation method. But this method can not be applied in the material of which elastic wave propagtion velocity is not known. In this paper, we propose two methods, vector method and error minimization method, for AE source location on the material with unknown AE wave velocity. In this method, it is not needed to know the propagation velocity previously, that is, we can apply this method to arbitrary material of which properties are not known exactly. Also, in this paper, the robustness to the error in the measurement of time differences are discussed for both methods. Finally, in order to evaluate the actual performances, experiments using a pencil lead break as the AE source were carried out on the aluminum plate.

Determination of the Location of a Line Source using Gravity Gradient Tensor (중력 변화율 텐서를 이용한 선형 이상체 위치 결정)

  • The determination algorithm of the location of a line source with strike and dip using the gravity gradient tensor on a single profile is proposed. We already proposed the determination of strike and dip in the previous paper and then, now we improved the algorithm to locate a line source after determining strike and dip. The strike and dip of the line source can be determined by rotating the gravity gradient tensor matrix as reducing 2 independent components. Using the ratio of remaining 2 components, the location can be determined by the least square manner of the pointing vectors on each observation point. A synthetic model is tested for proving the usefulness of the proposed algorithm.

  • This paper describes the implemenation of localization and visualization scheme to find out an ultrasonic source caused by defects of a power distribution line equipment. To increase the fault detection performance, $2{\times}4$ sensor array is configured with MEMS ultrasonic sensors, and from the sensor signals aquired, the azimuth and elevation angles of the ultrasonic source is estimated based on the delay-sum beam forming method. Also, to visualize the estimated location, it is marked on the background image. Experimental results show applicability of the present technique.
