  • A new error control line code based on an extended Hamming code is proposed and its performance is analyzed in this paper. The proposed code is capable of single error correction and double error detection since its minimum Hamming distance is 4. In addition, the error detection capability can be oncreased due to the redundancy bit used for line coding. As a result, the proposed code shows lower code rate, but better spectral characteristics in low frequency region and lower residual bit error rate than the conventional error correction line code using Hamming (7, 4) code.

  • The Line Code is a code used for data transmission and is a coding method used to prevent loss of data between transmitter and receiver. There are various kinds of line code such as B3ZS, HDB3, B8ZS, and HDB3 code is used in the tactical communication networks of Korea. In this paper, we implement the HDB3 Codec that is used in tactical communication networks in order to eliminate the risk factors for component discontinuance and to shorten development period and ensure reliability. Also it is confirmed that it can be implement by minimizing the amount of logic usage so that it can be used unrestrictedly in systems using FPGA and the implemented HDB3 Codec is simulated to confirm that it is equivalent to the performance of HDB3 Codec IC.

  • Line drawing images are the most proper information to represent the characteristics and shapes of digital images and used for recognition and communication. For the coding of line drawing images, common eight-direction chain code is used mostly. In the paper, the new mode selection chain code method is proposed which can compress the eight-direction chain code about twenty percents and be used for the reversible coding method of line drawing images. In this coding techniques, we set a reference mode for each quadrant around an abject pixel, and assign 3-directional code for these reference modes. Therefore a line pixel is coded with 3 bits. Also, a new corner finding method of line drawing images using this mode selection chain code is proposed in this paper.

  • This paper is to propose a new line code suitable for a high speed unipolar pulse transmission system, such as a high speed optical digital transmission system. The original information speed can be converted into the transmission speed $\frac{(m+1)}{m}$ by the speed converter. Then this code, named mBiZ code, is generated by means of an Exclusive NOR between the bit stream inserted a space into every m bits and the bit stream delayed by the time slot allocated a single bit at the output coded sequence. Therefore, a mBiZ code can reduce a redundancy in the line code for transmission and its conversion circuits can be devised easily. The mBiZ code can also suppress undesirable long consecuitive identical digits and make line code balance in the mark and space ratio. Therefore, high frequency and low frequency components in power spectrum of a mBiZ code can be suppessed.

  • A new line code design technique based on the BUDA(Binary Unit DSV and ASV) concept is introduced. The new line code called MB34 and designed by this new technique is of the minimum bandwidth, dc-free, and runlength limited. To confirm the performance of the new code, its power spectrum and eye pattern are obtained, wherein spectral nulls at dc(f=0) and Nyguist frequency (f=1/2Ts) are clearly identified. It is also discussed how the transmission errors can be detected by monitoring the DSV, the ASV, and the runlength.

  • This paper proposes new line code BIM (Bit Insertion and Manipulation) that is designed to overcome the problems of existing line codes. The block code, one of typical existing line code, has good transmission performance but difficulty in implementation. The other typical existing line code, bit insertion code, is easy to implementation but has bad transmission performance. BIM code in this paper could provide not only good performance but also provides simplicity in the implementation by combining the good points of block code into it of bit insertion code properly. In this paper, 5B6B type BIM code is designed. Designed 5B6B BIM code shows good transmission performance such $\pm$2 DSV, 0 RSD, 7 maximum run length and also it can be implemented under 2000 gates and need only 1 bit redundancy.

  • In this paper, we analyze the effect of line-width of optical sources on the performance of spectral amplitude coding (SAC) optical code division multiple-access (OCDMA) systems. For a performance analysis we use a symmetric balanced incomplete block design (BIBD) code as the code sequence because we can construct a series of code families by choosing different values of q and m. The ideal BIBD code (m=2) requires narrower line-width than the nonideal BIBD codes when the effective power is large ($P_{sr}=-10dBm$). But the nonideal BIBD codes (m>2) need narrower line-width than the ideal BIBD code when $P_{sr}=-25dBm$.

  • The HDB3 code, a type of line code, is a data coding method used for digital data transmission. It is used to remove the DC wander on the transmission line which occurs when the DC component data is transmitted continuously. The military tactical communication network uses HDB3 code for data transmission and develops equipment using commercial HDB3 Codec IC. Because it is operated for more than 10 years due to the characteristics of military equipment, if a failure occurs in the equipment, the equipment can not be repaired due to the discontinuance of the part, so that the entire equipment may not be used. In this paper, we implement the HDB3 Codec as a logic to solve this problem and verify that the performance is equivalent to that of commercial parts.

  • This paper studied the source coding rule of the characters to minimize the HDB-3 scrambling for UTF-8 code. An existing source coding rule of the characters to minimize the HDB-3 scrambling in the line coder is for the source codes which are directly entered into the line coder without any transformation. Therefore the existing source coding rule can't apply the UTF-8 code which is directly came into an input of line coder. The reason is that the scrambling code in the source codes are not same as UTF-8 codes. So, if they want to analysis the scrambling occurrence situation in UTF-8 codes and make an unscrambling UTF-8 code, they should make a UTF-8 code table for the source codes, find out the scrambling occurrence codes and then encode the unscrambling source code. The source coding rule for UTF-8 code showing this paper can omit such a complicated procedure to encode an unscrambling source code.
