  • As a cryogen, LOx is a light blue, odorless, transparent liquid. Also it is not shock sensitive and does not decompose. However, it is a strong oxidizer and will vigorously support combustion. Therefore all harmful contaminants (such as grease, oil, fingerprint and organic materials) that could cause malfunctions, fires, or explosions in a oxygen environments must be completely removed prior to the introduction of oxygen. Especially, grease ingredient located inside of the LOx supply line, pipe and PHS (Pneumo-Hydraulic System) part can make drastic chemical reaction with oxygen. Therefore, to protect rapid reaction such as explosion, grease ingredient must be surely eliminated by a regular and irregular degreasing. Study on the availability, effectiveness and selection of degreasing detergents and method is described in this paper, and it will be useful for the construction and management of IPP test facility.

Damage of Gyeongju 9.12 Earthquakes and Seismic Design Criteria for Nonstructural Elements (경주 9.12지진의 피해 및 비구조요소 내진설계기준)

  • After the Gyeong-ju 9.12 earthquake, we found the necessity of seismic design of nonstructural element is important to reduce damages in view of properties and economic losses. This study focused on the investigation of damages including both properties and human beings. It was found that most of the damages are leaking of water pipe line, rupture of glasses, spalling of roof finishing, cracks of building, and falling from roof. It was also found that the seismic design force of nonstructural elements is taking account into the natural periods, amplification factors, response modification factors to forsee inelastic behaviors. From this studies, it is recommended that more studies are necessary on the seismic design force of nonstructural element.

Emission Characteristics of Air Pollutants produced from Idling of Vehicles (차량 공회전시 배출되는 대기오염물질의 배출 특성)

  • This study identified concentrations of all pollutants emitted from idling of vehicles such as cars, taxis, trucks, and buses. In this investigation we analyzed concentrations of $SO_2$, NOx, CO, and $CO_2$ omitted from exhaust pipe of vehicles as a function of vehicle type, mileage, exhaust volume, and fuel type using the GreenLine. Compact or light cars, which have relatively low exhaust volume, showed much higher exhaust concentrations of $CO_2$, CO, and NOx than those emitted from vehicles with high exhaust volume. Vehicles using light oil showed much higher exhaust NOx concentrations than those of vehicles using gasoline. Vehicles using LPG and compact cars showed very high exhaust CO concentration compared to other vehicles. NOx exhaust concentrations were increased with increasing the mileage of vehicles.

  • In this research, these days extension of electric power station plant and new building plan is tending to more bigger size and much more cooling water for discharge, therefore submarine structure for discharge has needed various types and the large one. The domestic power plant was applied to once-through CW system structure that pipe line type, immersed PC-box culvert type and submarine headrace tunnel type of discharge structure. It is possible that the future structure type of submarine discharge is expected by a case research of application and plan.

  • The aim of this study was to evaluate the use of iron-nickel oxide ($Fe_2O_3$.NiO) nanopowder (FeNi) as an anti-corrosion pigment for a different application. The corrosion protection ability and the mechanism involved was determined using aqueous solution of FeNi prepared in a corrosive solution containing 3.5 wt.% NaCl. Anti-corrosion abilities of aqueous solution were determined using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) on line pipe steel (API 5L X-80). The protection mechanism involved the adsorption of metallic cations on the steel surface forming a protective film. Analysis of EIS spectra revealed that corrosion inhibition occurred at low concentration, whereas higher concentration of aqueous solution produced induction behavior.

  • In this paper, it used a different pipeline method from conventional method which is encoding the video signal of analog with digital. It designed with pipeline structure of 4 phases as the pixel clock ratio of the whole operation of the encoder, and secured the stable operational timing of the each sub-blocks, it was visible the effect which reduces a gate possibility as designing by the ROM table or the shift and adder method which is not used a multiplication flag method of case existing of multiplication of the fixed coefficient. The designed encoder shared with the each sub-block and it designed the FPGA using MAX+PLUS2 with VHDL.

  • Convolutional coding with Viterbi decoding is known as a powerful method for forward error correction among many kinds of channel coding methods. This paper presents a soft decision Viterbi decoder which has systolic array trace-back architecture[1]. Soft decision is known as more effective method than hard decision and most of digital communication systems use soft decision. The advantage of using a systolic array decoder is that the trace-back operation can be accomplished continuously in an array of registers in a pipe-line fashion, instead of waiting for the entire trace-back procedure to be completed at each iteration. Therefore it may be suitable for faster communication system. We described operations of each module of the decoder and showed results of the logic synthesis and functional simulation.

  • Measurement of the potential of a buried pipeline using the Cu/$CuSO_4$ reference electrode is the most widely used method for the estimation of the corrosion susceptibility of the pipeline. The recorded values, however, include inevitable errors due to the IR drop caused by the stray currents. In this paper, we describe the characteristics of the IR-free reference electrode used for more accurate measurement of the pipe line potential.

  • An experiment to observe reduction of pressure fluctuation in the compressing system utilizing snubber has done. The experiment measured pressure at inlet and outlet of snubber. It used an air compressor as a model of hydrogen one. Snubber with buffer and snubber without buffer were used to get comprehensive comparison between both of that snubber. An analysis by using Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) method was conducted to verify working pressure frequency. With this method pure signal of static pressure was filtered from noisy signal. The experiment was run for several speeds of piston movement. It was controlled by adjustable frequency regulator that controled rotation of actuator motor. This was connected to the piston-reciprocating compressor with V-belt. From result obtained, the fluctuation was increasing proportionally when frequency of driver motor was increased.

  • In order to reduce the secondary earthquake disaster resulting from the damage of gas facilities it is indispensable to establish an early response system on the basis of damage prediction. In this study the procedure of damage prediction for gas facilities is proposed and applied to the gas supply model area. Model area is divided into several little blocks. The soil condition and the characteristics of facilities were investigated at each block. Using fragility curves of facilities the damage level was analyzed under various seismicities. It is confirmed that the exposure gas pipe line in several blocks is damaged seriously by the collapse of building structures.
