  • Scientists gain benefits from on-demand scalable resource provisioning, and various computing environments by using cloud computing resources for their applications. However, many cloud computing service providers offer their cloud resources according to their own policies. The descriptions of resource specification are diverse among vendors. Subsequently, it becomes difficult to find suitable cloud resources according to the characteristics of an application. Due to limited understanding of resource availability, scientists tend to choose resources used in previous experiments or over-performed resources without considering the characteristics of their applications. The need for standardized notations on diverse cloud resources without the constraints of complicated specification given by providers leads to active studies on intercloud to support interoperability in hybrid cloud environments. However, projects related to intercloud studies are limited as they are short of expertise in application characteristics. We define an intercloud resource classification and propose semantic resource recommendation based on statistical analysis to provide semantic cloud resource services for an application in hybrid cloud computing environments. The scheme proves benefits on resource availability and cost-efficiency with choosing semantically similar cloud resources using cluster analysis while considering application characteristics.

  • Next generation military satellite communication systems have been developed for expanding capacity and survivability. As for expanding capacity, the communication systems require efficient techonology to use limited resource. So, next generation communication systems are expected to use MF-TDMA technology. MF-TDMA is the technology which has the advantages of FDMA and TDMA. By using MF-TDMA, communication systems can use limited resource efficiently, and the performance of resource allocation depends on the allocation scheme. In this paper, we propose efficient allocation scheme for next generation military satellite communication systems. Also, we compare and analze performances such as Total Resource Efficient, Reject Ratio, Computational Time, PSD distribution with existing allocation schemes.

  • In this paper, we investigate how to do resource allocation to guarantee a minimum user data rate at low signaling overhead in multi-cell orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) wireless systems. We devise dynamic resource allocation (DRA) algorithms that can minimize the QoS violation ratio (i.e., the ratio of the number of users who fail to get the requested data rate to the total number of users in the overall network). We assume an OFDMA system that allows dynamic control of frequency reuse factor (FRF) of each sub-carrier. The proposed DRA algorithms determine the FRFs of the sub-carriers and allocate them to the users adaptively based on inter-cell interference and load distribution. In order to reduce the signaling overhead, we adopt a hierarchical resource allocation architecture which divides the resource allocation decision into the inter-cell coordinator (ICC) and the base station (BS) levels. We limit the information available at the ICC only to the load of each cell, that is, the total number of sub-carriers required for supporting the data rate requirement of all the users. We then present the DRA with limited coordination (DRA-LC) algorithm where the ICC performs load-adaptive inter-cell resource allocation with the limited information while the BS performs intra-cell resource allocation with full information about its own cell. For performance comparison, we design a centralized algorithm called DRA with full coordination (DRA-FC). Simulation results reveal that the DRA-LC algorithm can perform close to the DRA-FC algorithm at very low signaling overhead. In addition, it turns out to improve the QoS performance of the cell-boundary users, and achieve a better fairness among neighboring cells under non-uniform load distribution.

  • Natural resource of the island and coastal regions is one of the most important element of ecological network system in Korea. Currently, there is trend that natural and biological resources such as fishing and tidal wetland have been used to local economic activation in island and coastal regions. According to the 5-days work in a week, island and coastal regions become important amenity resource of citizen's recreation area. Korea is peninsula surrounded by maritime. Especially, South and West Sea surrounded by many islands and tidal flat wetlands are emerging marine ecosystem and seascape in the world. Natural resource is limited, so we have to sustain those resource to current tourism. In this study, I would like to suggest that importance of cultural resource as well as natural resource for 'eco-cultural tourism' in order to keep both biological diversity and cultural diversity as amenity resource for future island economic activation in Korea.

  • In this paper, resource leveling heuristics are developed for ship erection scheduling. The heuristics, which enable scheduling with limited resources, are composed of the gradual resource limit decrease anti the resource allocation. At first, earliest start(ES) schedule is derived by PERT to get initial resource limit. And then, the heuristics lower the resource limits by a given increment and derive a new schedule from day-by-day resource allocation procedure. The procedure is repeated until the project duration reaches at the given ship erection duration, called dock cycle. Through the application of the heuristics for real world ship erection projects, wc can observe significant improvement in resource leveling.

  • In ubiquitous environments, invisible devices and software are connected to one another to provide convenient services to users. In order to provide such services, we must have mobile devices that connect users and services. However, the types of available services have thus far been limited due to the limited resources of mobile devices. This paper proposes a solution to the resource limitation problem of mobile devices by presenting a context-based collaboration system that allows mobile devices to share various nearby resources. Our system has a feature to enable personalized resource sharing by dynamically re-configuring user's preference and resource information.

  • In the IEEE 802.16 Wireless MAN standard, the best effort service class is ranked on the lowest position in priority so that only scarce resource may be available for it. Also, the best effort service is usually assisted by a MAC scheme based on reservation ALOHA without explicit acknowledgement. However, the standard only specifies the skeleton of the MAC scheme. In this paper, we propose some rules to specify the indefinite part of the MAC scheme as well as to improve the throughput and delay performance of the MAC scheme. As generic rules for demanding and granting resource, we first propose non-gated exhaustive, gated exhaustive, non-gated limited, and gated limited demand rules, and deficient and full grant rules. Secondly, we propose grant regulation rules, identified as replacement and lifetime rules, to avoid excessive grant incurred by not giving acknowledgement. Noting the residual resource is inflated by adopting a grant regulation rule, we finally propose a rule for investing the residual resource to a subscriber station. Simulation results confirm that a combination of proposed rules improves the performance of the MAC scheme.

  • The growing usage of multimedia communication applications with specific bandwidth and real-time delivery requirements has created the needs for quality of service(QoS). In response to the growing demand for an integrated services, the Reservation Protocol(RSVP) has been designed to exchange resource reservation among routers in the internet. RSVP protocol provides the quality of service for real-time applications but the network efficiency is reduced because of the limited bandwidth. In order to use network resources efficiently. We compare the resource efficiency of traditional reservation methods with that of the proposed method and evaluate the performance of the internet phone.

  • Access control that has been previously performed mainly on safety, and thus not much effort has been done to consider access control in terms of efficiency. This paper proposes a method for an efficient and secure query processing of XML data streams, such as a personal digital assistant and a portable terminal, at the client side with limited resources. Specifically, this paper proposes an access control processing that possesses a small overhead for attaining a secure result with limited memory and a method to enhance the performance, finding the parts capable of optimizing each processing step for offsetting the overhead caused by the addition of access control processing. The superiority of the new method is analyzed through an experiments.

  • Rapid urbanization, resource depletion, and limited land are further increasing the need for skyscrapers in city centers; therefore, it is imperative to enhance tall building performance efficiency and energy-generative capability. Potential performance improvements can be explored using parametric multi-objective optimization, aided by evaluation tools, such as computational fluid dynamics and energy analysis software, to visualize and explore skyscrapers' multi-resource, multi-system generative potential. An optimization-centered, software-based design platform can potentially enable the simultaneous exploration of multiple strategies for the decreased consumption and large-scale production of multiple resources. Resource Generative Skyscrapers (RGS) are proposed as a possible solution to further explore and optimize the generative potentials of skyscrapers. RGS can be optimized with waste-energy-harvesting capabilities by capitalizing on passive features of integrated renewable systems. This paper describes various resource-generation technologies suitable for a synergetic integration within the RGS typology, and the software tools that can facilitate exploration of their optimal use.
