The main purpose of this study is to investigate the static behavior of a horizontally curved prestressed concrete (PSC) girder. A 30m long full-scale curved PSC girder with 80.0m radius is fabricated by a portable curved form system. Deflections and concrete strains at the middle of span were measured. The obtained experimental results have been compared to those from F.E.A. analysis. When a initial crack developed, the applied load was 1.3 times the service design load and the vertical deflection at the middle of span satisfied the requirement for a live load state according to the Korea Bridge Design Specifications (2010). Also, the ductility of the full scale specimen satisfied the limit in the Specifications (2010). To verify the experimental results, a numerical F.E. analysis was carried and confirmed that the data were similar with results from the test above. The horizontally curved PSC girder fabricated on site was found to have enough strength for safety under and after construction.
This study investigates the bearing pressure distribution and design of an H-section steel column baseplate under concentric loading. In general, the size and thickness of the baseplate are determined with the assumption that the bearing pressure of the column baseplate is distributed uniformly. When the column is loaded lightly, however, the baseplate becomes smaller andthinner and the bearing pressure of the baseplate is distributed non-uniformly. In this study, the distribution of the bearing pressure is investigated using the experimental method and the analytical method. Seven specimens of the H-section steel column baseplate were fabricated and tested. The analysis of the specimens was performed using the finite element analysis program, ANSYS. It is not appropriate to use the Limit State Design, which assumes that the bearing pressure of the baseplate is distributed uniformly, because the bearing pressure is distributed non-uniformly and is concentrated under the column sectio.

To operate a process plant safely and economically, process monitoring is very important. Process monitoring is the task to identify the state of the system from sensor data. Process monitoring includes data acquisition, regulatory control, data reconciliation, fault detection, etc. This research focuses on the data recon-ciliation using scale-space filtering and fault detection using functional-link associative neural networks. Scale-space filtering is a multi-resolution signal analysis method. Scale-space filtering can extract highest frequency factors(noise) effectively. But scale-space filtering has too large calculation costs and end effect problems. This research reduces the calculation cost of scale-space filtering by applying the minimum limit to the gaussian kernel. And the end-effect that occurs at the end of the signal of the scale-space filtering is overcome by using extrapolation related with the clustering change detection method. Nonlinear principal component analysis methods using neural network have been reviewed and the separately expanded functional-link associative neural network is proposed for chemical process monitoring. The separately expanded functional-link associative neural network has better learning capabilities, generalization abilities and short learning time than the exiting-neural networks. Separately expanded functional-link associative neural network can express a statistical model similar to real process by expanding the input data separately. Combining the proposed methods-modified scale-space filtering and fault detection method using the separately expanded functional-link associative neural network-a process monitoring system is proposed in this research. the usefulness of the proposed method is proven by its application a boiler water supply unit.

In the design of reinforced concrete framed structures, which consist of various design variables, the objective and the constraint functions are formulated in complicated forms. Usually iterative methods have been used to optimize the design variables. In this paper, multilevel formulation is adopted, and design variables are selected in reduced numbers at each level, to reduce the iterative cycle and to accelerate the convergence rate. At level 1, elastic analysis is performed to get the upper and lower bounds of the redistributed design moments due to inelastic behavior of the frame. Then the design moments are taken as design variables and optimized at level 2, and the sizing variables are optimized at level 3. The optimization of redistributed moments is performed using the design sensitivity obtained at the level 2, and force approximation technique is used to reflect the variation of design variables in the lower level to the upper level. The design variables are selected in reduced numbers at each level, and the optimization formulation is simplified effectively. A cost function is taken as the objective function, and the constraints of the stress of the structures are derived from BSI CP 110 following limit state theory. Numerical examples are included to prove the effectiveness of the developed algorithm.
The researches on circular hollow section(CHS) connections have been conducted continuously because of development of material properties and complex local behavior of the connections. The purpose of this study is that the effects of material strength and chord wall slenderness on chord plastification and strength of CHS X-joint truss connection under compression on branch member were evaluated. To this end, finite element analyses were performed for various connections, using ANSYS Mechanical APDL program. Based on the analysis results, the design strength of the connections according to chord plastification limit state in KBC were examined. Finally, special considerations for CHS X-joint connection design were suggested.

The concept of the IGC(Integrated Guidance and Control) has been introduced to overcome the performance limit of the SGC(Separated Guidance and Control) loop. A new type of IGC with impact angle constraint has been proposed in this paper. Angle of attack, pitch angle rate, pitch angle and line of sight angle are considered as state variables. A controllability analysis and equilibrium point analysis have been carried out to investigate the control characteristic of the prposed IGC. The LQR(Linear Quadratic Regulator) has been adopted for the control law and detailed explanations about the adoption has been provided. The performance comparison between the IGC and the SGC has been carried out. The result of numerical simulations shows that the IGC guarantees better guidance performance than the SGC when the agile maneuver is needed for a specific guidance geometry.
Tunnelling under water table induces many geotechnical problems because of groundwater. In subsea tunneling, reduction of face stability can induce flooding in the vicinity of a fracture zone characterized by high permeability and high water pressure. In this study, the effects of high water pressure on the stability of a tunnel face in a limited zone with high permeability(hazardous zone) are analyzed. On the basis of the 'advance core' concept, the seepage force acting on a hypothetical cylinder ahead of a tunnel face is modeled. This study focuses on the hydraulic behavior of the ground ahead of the tunnel face by three-dimensional steady-state seepage analyses. The impact of the hazardous zone on the seepage force and stability of the tunnel face are simulated and analyzed. In light of the analysis results, it is estimated that the distance from the tunnel face to the exterior boundary limit, which the seepage force significantly affects the stability of the tunnel face, of a hypothetical cylinder is approximately 5 times the tunnel radii. Despite the restrictive assumptions of this study, the results are highly indicative regarding the risks of hazardous zones.

Methods for mixing variable types of steel fibers have been developed recently to suppress outbreak of crack or to control the width of crack and improve the load resistible capacity at the same time. On the other hand, uncertainty by complex nature of destruction dynamics of steel fiber reinforced concrete(SFRC) is included. In this study, analysis of reliance considering uncertainty of SFRC beam is done. For this, intensity limit state model was proposed. Moreover, characteristic values about almost every kinds of probability variables were collected and presented according to home and foreign references. Process of improving uncertainty from the result of experiments by Bayseian updating method is also proposed on the purpose of offering better statistical characteristic values with more data in the new future. Fatigue fracture probability equation is proposed and needed statistical characteristic values were presented to analyze fatigue reliance

Base on Korean design code, previous design code had not considered the effect of pavement on the orthotropic steel deck, however recent design code (Limit State Design Method, 2012) allowed to consider the effect of pavement on the orthotropic steel deck, and efforts to apply the stiffness of pavement to the deck continue. Meanwhile, research on the effect of ultra thin bridge deck overlay on the orthotropic steel deck is inadequate, previous study was limited in about fatigue stress and performance between pavement layer and the orthotropic steel deck. In this study, according to changing of pavement layer stiffness application, pavement materials, pavement thickness and steel deck thickness, analysis of deflection. In addition to base on this result, consider effectiveness of ultra-thin pavement stiffness application on the orthotropic steel deck.
Soil liquefaction is one of the types of major seismic damage. Soil liquefaction is a phenomenon that can cause enormous human and economic damages, and it must be examined before designing geotechnical structures. In this study, we proposed a practical method of developing a multi-hazard fragility surface for liquefaction of levee considering earthquake magnitude and water level. Limit state for liquefaction of levee was defined by liquefaction potential index (LPI), which is frequently used to assess the liquefaction susceptibility of soils. In order to consider the uncertainty of soil properties, Monte Carlo Simulation based probabilistic analysis was performed. Based on the analysis results, a 3D fragility surface representing the probability of failure by soil liquefaction as a function of the ground motion and water level has been established. The prepared multi-hazard fragility surface can be used to evaluate the safety of levees against liquefaction and to assess the risk in earthquake and flood prone areas.
