Shape and Spacing Effects on Curvy Twin Sail for Autonomous Sailing Drone (무인 해상 드론용 트윈 세일의 형태와 간격에 관한 연구)

  • There is a growing interest this paper for ocean sensing where autonomous vehicles can play an essential role in assisting engineers, researchers, and scientists with environmental monitoring and collecting oceanographic data. This study was conducted to develop a rigid sail for the autonomous sailing drone. Our study aims to numerically analyze the aerodynamic characteristics of curvy twin sail and compare it with wing sail. Because racing regulations limit the sail shape, only the two-dimensional geometry (2D) was open for an optimization. Therefore, the first objective was to identify the aerodynamic performance of such curvy twin sails. The secondary objective was to estimate the effect of the sail's spacing and shapes. A viscous Navier-Stokes flow solver was used for the numerical aerodynamic analysis. The 2D aerodynamic investigation is a preliminary evaluation. The results indicated that the curvy twin sail designs have improved lift, drag, and driving force coefficient compared to the wing sails. The spacing between the port and starboard sails of curvy twin sail was an important parameter. The spacing is 0.035 L, 0.07 L, and 0.14 L shows the lift coefficient reduction because of dramatically stall effect, while flow separation is improved with spacing is 0.21 L, 0.28 L, and 0.35 L. Significantly, the spacing 0.28 L shows the maximum high pressure at the lower area and the small low pressure area at leading edges. Therefore, the highest lift was generated.

Effects of Coating Materials on Fluidity and Temperature Loss of Molten Metals from Runner Systems in Full Moulds.

  • The full mould casting process in one of the newly developed techniques which has many advantages. Unbonded sand mould has been prepared for the major mould and $CO^2$ gas mould has been used occasionally for comparison. Patterns were built up with expanded polystyrene and coated with three different materials. Silica, graphite and zircon were used for the coating layer. The effects on fluidity and temperature loss of molten metals were investigated. The molten metals were Al-5% Si alloy, Cu-30% Zn alloy and gray iron of approximately 4.0% of carbon equivalent. Experimental variables were runner section area, superheat, sprue height, coating materials, coating thickness and apparent density of EPS pattern. The effects of coating materials on fluidity and temperature loss of the molten metals during transient pouring are summarized as follows : As runner section area, superheat and sprue height increased, fluidity increased. Temperature loss decreased as runner section area and sprue height increased. However, reversed effects were observed in the case of superheat increment. The coating materials decreased the fluidity of each alloy in the order of silica, graphite and zircon. Zircon brought to the highest temperature loss among the coating materials used. The fluidity increased in the order gray iron, Cu-30% Zn and Al-5% Si alloy while temperature loss in the reverse order. Especially in case of reduced pressure process, the fluidity was increased apparently. Al-5% Si alloy showed the lowest temperature loss among the alloys. The increment of the apparent density of EPS pattern resulted in the fluidity decrease and temperature loss increase. The relation between fluidity and temperature loss of each alloy can be expressed by the following equation within the coating thickness limit of 0.5-1.5㎜.   • 본 연구는 타이트 스커트의 트임의 개수가 왼쪽 옆선에 1개 있을 때와 왼쪽 옆선, 오른쪽 옆선에 각각 1개씩 모두 2개 있을 때 평지 보행, 계단 승강, 버스 승강 등과 같은 일상동작에 잘 적응할 수 있는 타이트 스커트의 적정 트임 길이를 설정하는 것을 목표로 하였다. 아울러 각 동작시의 트임 길이에 따른 생리적인 반응을 의복압, 산소 섭취량을 통해 알아보고자 하였다. 평균보폭은 4m 구간을 평상시대로 걸을 때의 발자국간 평균거리를 이용하였으며 국민표준체위조사보고서(1997)에 의한 평균체형을 가진 9명의 피험자를 정하였다. 스커트의 형태는 무릎길이인 타이트 스커트로 정하였다. 스커트의 트임은 왼쪽 옆선에 1개 있는 경우와 왼쪽 옆선, 오른쪽 옆선에 각각 1개씩 있는 경우의 2종류이다. 트임이 1개인 스커트는 2cm 간격으로, 트임이 2개인 스커트는 1cm 간격으로 트임 위치를 표시하여 길이를 조정하였다. 적정 트임 길이는 Likert 척도에 의한 만족도 평가로 측정하였으며 의복압은 air-bag system으로, 산소 섭취량은 Quark $B^2$ 으로 측정하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 스커트의 최소 적정 트임 길이는 트임 1개일 때 평지 보행시 4cm, 계단 승강시 12cm ,버스 승강시 18cm이며, 트임 2개일 때 평지 보행시 2cm, 계단 승강시 8cm, 버스 승강시 15cm로 나타났다. 2. 의복압의 경우, 동일 트임 길이에서 트임 1개의 의복압이 트임 2개의 의복압보다 높았지만 트임 개수에 따른 전체 트임 길이로 보면 트임 1개의 의복압이 트임 2개의 의복압 보다 낮게 나타났다. 동작별로는 버스 승강의 의복압이 가장 높고 계단 승강, 평지 보행 순으로 낮아졌다. 3. 산소 섭취량의 경우, 동일 트임 길이에서 트임 1개와 트임 2개의 산소 섭취량은 거의 비슷하였다. 트임 개수에 따른 전체 트임 길이로 보면 트임 1개의 산소 섭취량이 트임 2개의 산소 섭취량보다 낮게 나타났다. 동작별로는 버스 승강의 산소 섭취량이 가장 높고 계단 승강, 평지 보행 순으로 낮아졌다.

Determination and confirmation of the carbendazim residue in soybean sprout (콩나물중 살균제 carbendazim 잔류분의 정량 및 확인)

  • Tandem HPLC and atmospheric pressure chemical ionization(APcI) LC/MS method was used for the determination and confirmation of carbendazim residues in soybean sprout. Fluorescence(FL) detector was connected in tandem with the ultraviolet(UV) detector for dual detection of the carbendazim residue at the excitation and emission wavelength of 280 nm and 310 nm, respectively. The limit of detection for carbendazim was $0.1{\mu}g/kg$ sample. Recoveries of carbendazim from fortified soybean sprout at 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 ppm were averaged 89.1%. Mass spectrometry using a APcI source confirmed the carbendazim residue in the soybean sprout sample. Fragmentation pattern on the APcI LC/MS spectrum of carbendazim was simpler than that from electron impact(EI) mass spectrum. Carbendazim produced 3 major ions including m/z 133, m/z 159 and m/z 191($M^{+}$). This method was sensitive enough to provide reliable and reproducible results for practical applications.

A Clinical Study of Patent Ductus Arteriosus (동맥관개존증의 임상적 고찰)

  • A clinical study on 139 cases of operated PDA was performed during period from Aug. 1982 to Apr. 1991 at the Dept. of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery of Chonbuk National University Hospital. The following results are obtained. 1. The 35 males and 104 females ranged in age from 6 months to 40 years. [mean 10.2 yrs. ] 2. Chief complaints of the patients were frequent URI in 50%, dyspnea on exertion in 31.2%, palpitation in 11.1%, and no subjective symptoms in 28.78% 3. On auscultation, continuous machinery murmur heard in 79.86% and systolic murmur in 20.14%. 4. Radiologic findings of chest P-A showed increased density of pulmonary vascularity in 80.58%, cardiomegaly in 61.87%, and within normal limit in 19.42% of the patients. 5. The signs of LVH[44.4%], RVH[17.4%], BVH[7.6%] were noted on the EKC. 6. Cardiac catheterizations were performed in 114 patients. The mean Qp/Qs was 2.65 and the mean Pp /Ps was 0.41 and the mean systolic pulmonary artery pressure was 46.6 mmHg. 7. Operative methods were as followed: The 130 cases[93.52%] of ligation and 3 cases[2.16%] of division & suture for PDA were performed through the left posterolateral thoracotomy. And the remained cases were managed under the cardiopulmonary bypass. 8. Operative complications were hoarseness in 8 cases, atelectasis in 6 cases, intraoperative ductal rupture under the left thoracotomy approach 2 cases, recannalization 1 case and others in 3 cases. 9. One patient died due to ductal rupture intraoperatively and the overall mortality was 0.7%.

  • Mathematical models for various steps in coal gasification reactions were developed and applied to investigate the effects of operation parameters on dynamic behavior of gasification process. Chemical reactions considered in these models were pyrolysis, volatile combustion, water shift reaction, steam-methane reformation, and char gasification. Kinetics of heterogeneous reactions between char and gaseous agents was based on Random pore model. Momentum balance and Stokes' law were used to estimate the residence time of solid particles (char) in an up-flow reactor. The effects of operation parameters on syngas composition, reaction temperature, carbon conversion were verified. Parameters considered here for this purpose were $O_2$-to-coal mass ratio, pressure of reactor, composition of coal, diameter of char particle. On the basis of these parametric studies some quantitative parameter-response relationships were established from both dynamic and steady-state point of view. Without depending on steady state approximation, the present model can describe both transient and long-time limit behavior of the gasification system and accordingly serve as a proto-type dynamic simulator of coal gasification process. Incorporation of heat transfer through heterogenous boundaries, slag formation and steam generation is under progress and additional refinement of mathematical models to reflect the actual design of commercial gasifiers will be made in the near futureK.

Factors Affecting Discrimination of Surface Property Using an Integrated Tactile Display;Roughness and Vibration

  • In this paper, we describe a study on the influence of the frequency variation of normal vibration using an integrated tactile display. It is necessary to consider this study because we want to find a method of displaying finer texture and know that the perception of fine textures is heavily influenced by temporal variation. Our tactile display system used in this experiment can simulate the micro shapes and roughness of surface textures by individual drives of a 6x8 pin array. Two experiments are performed. The first is a psychophysical experiment on the definition and range decision of roughness, and through the experiment, we clear up the meaning of roughness. The second is the main experiment about the frequency variation of normal vibration. We find the correlation between the vibration frequency and the texture and the condition for better display and perception of fine surfaces. The experimental results yielded two pieces of information. One is that lateral movement affects texture discrimination, and another is that normal vibration can make the perceived texture feel finer than real texture. That is, the vibrating stimulus is more effective for displaying a fine surface than static pressure, and it makes possible to display finer texture, exceeding the physical limit of the device.

SUPERELASTICITY OF CAST SHAPE MEMORY Ni-Ti ALLOY (주조 형상기억 니켈-티타늄 합금의 초탄성)

  • Ni-Ti alloy has excellent corrosion resistance, biocompatibility, shape memory effect and superelasticity, so it has been used widely in biomedical fields. But it has difficulty in casting due to its high melting temperature and oxygen affinity at high temperature. Recently it has been attempted to cast Ni-Ti alloy using new casting machine and investment. The purpose of this study was to examine the superelastic behavior of cast shape memory Ni-Ti alloy and to compare the mechanical properties of the cast shape memory alloy with those of commercial alloys for removable partial denture framework. Ni-Ti alloy(Ni 50.25%, Ti 49.75% : atomic ratio) was cast with dental argon-arc pressure casting machine and Type IV gold alloy, Co-Cr alloy, Ni-Cr alloy, pure titanium were cast as reference. Experimental cast Ni-Ti alloy was treated with heat($500{\pm}2^{\circ}C$) in muffle furnace for 1 hour. Transformation temperature range of cast Ni-Ti alloy was measured with differential scanning calorimetry. The superelastic behavior and mechanical properties of cat Ni-Ti alloy were observed and evaluated by three point bending test, ultimate tensile test, Vickers microhardness test and scanning electron microscope. The results were as follows : 1. Cast Ni-Ti alloy(Ni 50.25%, Ti 49.75% : atomic ratio) was found to have superelastic behavior. 2. Stiffness of cast Ni-Ti alloy was considerably lesser than that of commercial alloys for removable partial denture. 3. Permanent deformation was observed in commercial alloys for removable partial denture framework at three point bending test over proportional limit(1.5mm deflection), but was not nearly observed in cast Ni-Ti alloy. 4. On the mechanical properties of ultimate tensile strength, elongation and Vickers microhardness number, cast Ni-Ti alloy was similiar to Type IV gold alloy, Co-Cr alloy, Ni-Cr alloy and pure titanium. With these results, cast Ni-Ti alloy had superelastic behavior and low stiffness. Therefore, it is suggested that cast Ni-Ti alloy may be applicated to base metal alloy for removable partial denture framework.

  • In this study, a test-bed system simulated a tunnel and concrete track is tested on cite and invested an allowed limit of multi-layered sound absorbing panel for reducing noise reflected on the concrete track in train tunnel considering the criteria and limitation on the theoretical back ground. The studied results are an effective evaluating system of the sound absorbing coefficient influenced fluid effects depending on the vehicle speed in the urban train tunnel and measuring not only structural behaviors of maximum displacement and acceleration of the panel but also dynamic characteristics of damping ratio and natural frequency.

The Effect of Ankle Balance Traning on Unstable and Stable Surface on Proprioception, Balance and Muscle Strength in Obese Middle-Aged Woman (불안정 지지면과 안정 지지면에서의 발목균형훈련이 비만중년여성의 고유수용성감각, 균형 및 근력에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of ankle balance training on unstable and stable surfaces to discover on which surface the proprioception, balance and muscle strength of obese middle aged women improves more. Method : Thirty obese middle-aged women were randomly recruited and divided into two groups (training on an unstable surface, training on a stable surface). The subjects in each group participated in the training for six weeks, three times per week for 30 minutes each session. Proprioception was measured using Dualer IQ digital inclinometer; sway length (SL) and sway area (SA) of center of pressure, and limit of stability (LOS) were measured for balance; muscle strength before and after the training was measured using manual muscle testing. Results : There were significant improvements in the subscales of the proprioception, balance and muscle strength in those who participated in ankle balance training on the unstable surface, and in those who participated on the stable surface. However, before and after the intervention, there were no differences between those who had the balance traning on the unstable surface and those who had the balance traning on the stable surface. Conclusion : Unstable and stable surface ankle balance training are both effective in improving the proprioception, balance and muscle strength of obese middle-aged woman.
