A Study on the Development of the Limit Switch Box for Corrosion Protection (방식형 리미트 스위치 박스의 개발에 관한 연구)

  • A limit switch box is used for a indicator of a valve actuator. This device indicates an opening and closing of a valve or throttle in a valve actuator. In a ship, equipments are required safety and robustness because of a rough environment and a specific condition during a voyage. However, the limit switch box is used in an indoor environment generally. In order to evaluate the endurance of the limit switch box used in an indoor environment, the endurance tests against salt water have been conducted. Experiment results showed that the limit switch box was corroded severely. Thus, this study developed a new limit switch box which can be used at an outdoor environment. The housing of the developed limit switch box was made by an stainless steel to prevent corrosion.

In a ship, equipments require safety and robustness because of a rough environment and a specific condition during a voyage. However, the limit switch box has been used in an indoor environment generally. This study developed a new limit switch box which can be used at an outdoor environment. This study designed the new limit switch box. The housing of the limit switch box was made by an aluminum die cast method with surface painting after anodizing or chromate coating. In order to evaluate the endurance of the housing, the endurance tests against salt water have been conducted. Experiment results showed that the proposed device provides a reliable performance against salt water.

A Study on Sunshine Environment with Different Distance between Buildings (인동간격에 따른 일조환경에 대한 연구)

  • Apartment design in residential Area is restricted by building distance limit code. Building distance limit decreases gradually to the 0.8H(height), and residential area has 250% site area ratio by building code, so site using has become efficient. In this study, examine the relationship between present building distance limit and right of daylighting environment by computer simulation. As well, high-rise residential officetel and multipurpose residential building becomes increase in commercial non-residential area. In the domestic, residential type multipurpose building made at the business area or central business area has 400∼800% site area ratio by building code. However, at a dweller's point of view, there are much lacks of environmental consideration to provide suitable daylighting environment. And, POE: Post Occupancy Evaluation is not completed yet. In this study, however, progress architectural environment prediction, basis by right of daylighting, and examine the possibility of daylighting by architectural distance limit code in residental area and by high-rise, high-density residential building in non-residental downtown area.

  • According to the analysis of special medical examination and work environment monitoring data, the rate of C1 and D1 on noise hazard exceeded 90% among those of total hazardous factors. The rate of company exceeding noise exposure limit was also more than 90%. The analysis result shows that main ages diagnosed with C1 and D1 was age of 50s. The majority scale company having workers diagnosed with C1 and D1 was the companies employing 5~49 workers. Types of industries which have a large number of companies exceeding noise exposure limit were automobile and trailer manufacturing, metal processing industry and primary metal manufacturing. A large number of work processes exceeding noise exposure limit were forming and processing work, cutting and bending work and grinding. To reduce the number of company exceeding noise exposure limit, the reduction counterplan should be focused on the type of industry and the work process which exceeded noise exposure limit frequently. However, the reduction counterplan is preemptively necessary to the type of industry and the work process which exceeded noise exposure limit consecutively if the purpose of reduction counterplan is not to merely reduce the number of company exceeding noise exposure limit but to abate workers' suffering from noise.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose indoor noise level in residential buildings affected by transportation noise (road traffic, railway and air-craft noise) based on subjective evaluations, 30 subjects participated in the experiment to evaluate the noise. Experimental environment reproduced real living and office environment, and in asking subjects' annoyance to the noise. An experiment to investigate the subjective responses to various computer noises (CD-Rom, HDD, Fan) in office environment was also undertaken. The Result shows that the lower limit of transportation noise is $40{\sim}41dB(A)$ and upper limit is $55{\sim}60dB(A)$, whereas the lower limit of various computer noises is $36{\sim}40dB(A)$ and upper limit is $45{\sim}52dB(A)$.

Adjusting the Retry Limit for Congestion Control in an Overlapping Private BSS Environment

  • Since 802.11 wireless LANs are so widely used, it has become common for numerous access points (APs) to overlap in a region, where most of those APs are managed individually without any coordinated control. This pattern of wireless LAN usage is called the private OBSS (Overlapping Basic Service Set) environment in this paper. Due to frame collisions across BSSs, each BSS in the private OBSS environment suffers severe performance degradation. This study approaches the problem from the perspective of congestion control rather than noise or collision resolution. The retry limit, one of the 802.11 attributes, could be used for traffic control in conjunction with TCP. Reducing the retry limit causes early discard of a frame, and it has a similar effect of random early drops at a router, well known in the research area of congestion control. It makes the shared link less crowded with frames, and then the benefit of fewer collisions surpasses the penalty of less strict error recovery. As a result, the network-wide performance improves and so does the performance of each BSS eventually. Reducing the retry limit also has positive effects of merging TCP ACKs and reducing HOL-like blocking time at the AP. Extensive experiments have validated the idea that in the OBSS environment, reducing the retry limit provides better performance, which is contrary to the common wisdom. Since our strategy is basically to sacrifice error recovery for congestion control, it could yield side-effects in an environment where the cost of error recovery is high. Therefore, to be useful in general network and traffic environments, adaptability is required. To prove the feasibility of the adaptive scheme, a simple method to dynamically adjust the value of the retry limit has been proposed. Experiments have shown that this approach could provide comparable performance in unfriendly environments.

Development of the Speed Limit Model for Harbour and Waterway(II) - The Method of Speed Limit Decision and Application -

  • This research is the result on calculating the logical speed limit through certain process which some elements must be considered on selecting the speed limit of harbour and waterway. The suggested speed limit select model on this research is processed from 1~6 steps by forming a professional group of experts. Each step has its information which 1st step(water division), 2nd step(selecting the model vessel and vessel applied with speed limit.), 3rd step(selecting the maximum and minimum speed range on each section), 4th step(evaluation on the safeness of traffic), 5th step(suggesting the appropriate speed limit), 6th step(execution and evaluation.). The appropriate speed limit was decided on consideration of the safety of maritime traffic on the range of the maximum speed and the minimum speed. This model was used to derive the appropriate speed limit on the harbour water and Busan harbour entrance waterway. As the result, the harbour water was calculated to be 6.9 knots, the appropriate speed limit of Busan entrance harbour was 9.3 knots. The present calculation of the speed limit on the approaching channel area is 10 knots, inner harbour area is 7 knots, which are similar to the result of the speed limit. This research is the first research on selecting the speed limit model and has its limits on finding the perfect speed limit result. More detailed standards on the safeness of traffic evaluation must be found and additional study is necessary on discriminating consideration of the elements. This research has its value which it provides instances of aboard cases on guidelines of selecting the speed limit.

Korea's Limit to Growth from Circular Causation Perspective: Focusing on Crisis Factors, Population, Economy, Resources, Environment, and Food (인과지도로 본 한국의 성장의 한계: 인구, 경제, 자원, 환경, 식량 위기요인을 중심으로)

  • The paper examines dynamic relationship among 'Limit to Growth' factors in Korea using causal loop diagram. It also aims to explore policy implications for Korea in overcoming current difficulties and future crisis we may face. For this purpose, five factors -economy, population, resource, environment, food- used in the were adopted as an analytical framework. Findings show that Korea is fragile to external shock such as world economic crisis, food price surge, and resource price -including energy price- hike. High dependency of energy, food and resource on foreign market was found to be a major source of limit to growth in Korea. Furthermore, environmental problems like global warming could be a major external shock that could hit Korea harder than the rest of the world. Policy implications and measures for these problems were discussed too.
