The Second Yeon Hwa Mine which belongs to a so called Lead-Zines Belt Area in the central east Korea is located at about 10 km northeast of the Seogpo railway station on Yeongdong Line. The exploitation of the mine started in June, 1969 and furnished the machinary ore dressing plant in November, 1971. The current monthly production of rude ore is 15,000 meteric tons. The results of the study on the lead-zinc-copper deposits of the Second Yeonhwa mine are summerized as follows: (1) main ore deposits of the mine are localized in the Pungchon Limestion formation of Cambrian age, (2) related ingneous rock with ore deposits is granite porphyry, which distributed in NS and $N50^{\circ}W$ trend, (3) ore solution ascended along the $N50^{\circ}W$ trend which represents folding axis and fault plane and mineralized selectively in the limestone formation. (4) high grade ore deposits are localized in concave and convex boundaries of granite porphyry, and hanging walls of shale bed ($P_2S$ shale bed) in Pungchon Limestone formation and (5) skarn minerals are consisted of garnet, hedenbergite, diopside, and sulfide minerals are composed of zincblenede, galena, phyrhotite, pyrite and some amount of chalcopyrite and arsenopyrite.

Alunite was dehydrated at 500~$580^{\circ}C$ and desulfurued at 580~$780^{\circ}C$ in air atmosphere. Therefore, this study was carried out to investigate the formation conditions of anhydrite ($CaCO_4$) when the mixtures of alunite TEX>$[K_2SO_4$.$Al_2(SO_4)_3$.$4Al(OH)_3$] and limestone ($CaCO_3$)were roasted. Alunite scarcely dected the partial pressures of $CO_2$(g), but limestone was bansformed into CaO at $650^{\circ}C$ in air and $900^{\circ}C$ in saturated $CO_2$(g), atmosphere, respectively. When the the mixtures of 1 mol of alunite and 6 rnol of limestone were roasted for 2 hours at lO00C in air and saturated $CO_2$(g), anhydrite was formed at $550^{\circ}C$ calciumlangbeinite, at $700^{\circ}C$and haiiyne, at 800~$950^{\circ}C$. The formation rate of anhydrite in air and saturated $CO_2$(g), was 99.0 % and 95.0 %, respectively. then the formation rate of anhydrite was not changed in air atmosphere but increased according to the decreasing of the particle size of limestone in saturated $CO_2$(g). Therefore, when the mixture of 1 mol of alunite and 6 rnol of limestone were roasted, the clinker composed of lmol of haiiync and 1 mol of calciumlangbeiilte can be manufactured
The study area is located in between Susanri and Hwanggangri where the formations of Okcheon group and Chosun group supposedly come in contact so that the area is structurally very import. Present study reveals that the meta-volcanic rocks distribute from south to north along contact zone of Okcheon and Chosun groups in the center of the area. Meta-volcanic rocks seem to be originated from the andesite or andesitic basalt rocks which was known to be Surchangri formation consist of phyllite and black slate by previous workers. The meta-volcanic rocks intruded along the fault zone one existed between Okcheon and Chosun groups but obliterated at present by the intrusion of volcanic rocks. The fault seems to be overthrust, and one of the positive evidences of thrust fault is the Yamisan nappe structure in Yamisan near Susanri. This interpretation coincides with O.J. Kim's work which states that the Precambrian Okcheon group is largely overturned and thrusted over the Chosun group. The relation between the Surchangri and the Majeonri formation marks facies change. This fact together with northpluging anticlinal structure made it possible that both formation came into contact along direction without fault. Yongam formation is not overlain unconformably used to be believed by previous workers, but interbed in the Great Limestone series of Chosun goup. It is also clarified that the rock formerly designated as limesilicate rock was meta-liparite. The origin of amphibole pebbles in the Kunjasan formation is of primary and secondary ones; the secondary pebbles were formed by metamorphism of the fragments of limestone or dolomite.
When the multi-stage combustion process is applied to the cement kiln to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions in the cement industry, oxidation/reduction section that can increase combustion efficiency by reducing NOx to NO and completely burning unburned materials is essential In this study, when applied the oxidation/reduction system of the cement kiln preheater and calciner, the optimal oxidation/reduction calcination crisis that can secure the quality stability of the final product, cement clinker, was to be observed macroscopically, and the mass change of raw materials according to the burning conditions, decarbonation rate, and calcination rate were investigated. The results showed that the thermal decomposition of raw materials tends to be promoted in the oxidation condition rather than in the reduction condition, and that the thermal decomposition of limestone, which has a relatively high CaO content, is carried out later than that of cement raw meal, which is thought to be caused by the CO2 fractionation in the kiln. The thermal decomposition properties of raw materials according to oxidation/reducing burning condition showed a relatively large difference in temperature range lower than normal limestone themal decomposition temperature, which is thought to be expected to improve the thermal efficiency of raw materials according to the formation of oxidation condition in the section 750℃ of burning temperature. However, for this study, lab scale. Because there is a difference from the field process as a scale study, it is deemed necessary to verify the actual test results of the pilot scale.
The gravity measurement was conducted at 256 stations around Chungju Lake to study subsurface geological distributions and subterranean mass discontinuities by the results of gravity anomaly in Metamorphic Complex, Okcheon Group, Great Limestone Group of Choson Supergroup, and Cretaceous biotite granites. Okcheon Group showed a high Bouguer gravity anomaly while Great Limestone Group of Choson Supergroup relatively a low anomaly. The mean depth of subterranean mass discontinuities is about 2.0 km and downward along the Suchangri Formation from the Hwanggangri and Moonjuri formations. In general, Okcheon Group appeared shallower than the depth of Great Limestone Group of Choson Supergroup when imaging the subterranean mass discontinuities from the Bouguer gravity anomaly.

The addition of a limestone filler(LF) to fill into the voids between cement and aggregate particles can reduce the cementitious paste volume. This paper aim to evaluate the influence of LF contents on the hydration kinetics and compressive strength. Hydration kinetics were evaluate using heat of hydration, ignition loss and thermal analysis. The heat of hydration was measured using Isothermal Calorimetry. The degree of hydration was measured using ignition loss. Hydration product analysis was carried out by Thermal Gravimetric and Differential Thermal Analysis. The results show that the addition of LF reduces not only the initial setting time and heat of hydration peak, also degree of hydration and rate of strength development at early age increase with the addition of LF. It can be concluded the LF fills the pore between cement particles due to formation of carboaluminate, which may accelerate the setting of cement pastes.
For establishing the plan of scientific conservation on the Kyongch′onsa and site of Won-gaksa 10 floors pagodas, the investigation on the rocks consisting these pagodas has been made on the rock phase and weathering characteristics. The Kyongch′onsa pagoda consists of fine grained pale graylimestone containing abundant fossils of shell and fragments of organisms. The site of Won-gaksa pagoda is composed of marble of pale gray, white and/or light brown color, which is intercalated with thin mica schist. The marble, the recrystallized limestone, consists mainly of recrystallized calcite accompanied with minor amount of muscovite. Especially carbonate rocks are somewhat different in chemical weathering from such granitic rocks. The field survey and laboratory experiment using polarizing microscope had been done during 30 days from Feb, 13 to March, 31, 1995. The rocks equivalent to that of the site of Kyongch′onsa were identified from the Myobong limestone formation and taken samples around the road from P′yongch′ang to Mitan, P′yongch′ang-gun. The rocks similar to that of the site of Won-gaksa pagoda were distributed around Pan-un-ri, Chunch′on-myon, Yong-wol-gun. The rocks of the Silluksa pagoda consisting of white recrystallized limestone with banded structure are similar to the marble of the Hyangsan-riformation distributed around Suanbo, Ch′ungch′ongbuk-do.
Magnetite ores of the Janggun mine are embedded in dolomitic limestone of the Janggun Limestone Formation contacting with Chunyang granite, and are closely associated with skarn minerals. Mineralization of magnetite deposits can be divided into two stages as deep-seated skarn stage and shallow hydrothermal replacement stage. Mineralogies of skarn stage consist of magnetite, pyrrhotite and base-metal sulfides, and those of hydrothermal stage is base-metal sulfides, native bismuth, bismuthinite, tetrahedrite, boulangerite, bournonite and stannite. The FeS mole % in sphalerite and As atom % in arsenopyrite range from 22.47 to 26.30 and from 31.39 to 31.66 in skarn stage, and are from 17.54 to 32.54 and 28.87 to 30.70 in hydrothermal stage, respectively. Based on mineralization characteristics, mineral assemblages, chemical compositions and thermodynamic considerations, formation temperatures, sulfur fugacities ($-logf_2$), pH and oxygen fugacity ($-logfo_2$) estimated to be from 345 to $382^{\circ}C$, from 8.1 to 9.7atm, from 6.5 to 7.2 and from 30.5 to 31.2atm in the skarn stage, respectively, and temperature and $-logfs_2$ are from 245 to $315^{\circ}C$ and from 10.4 to 13.2atm in the hydrothermal stage.
The Seosan Group in the Taean peninsular can be divided into Seosan formation and Daesan formation according to its metamorphism and stratigraphy. The Seosan formation is composed of iron bearing quartzite and schist which are strongly metamorphosed and migmatized about 2572 m.y.ago. The Daesan formation is composed mainly of quartzite and crystalline limestone. They were intruded by granite gneiss 2370m.y ago and metamorphosed two or three times before Jurassic Period. The Group is overlain by Taean formation which shows low grade metamorphism. Total three times metamorphic events can be recognized in these areas. First and second metamorphisms are predominent in amphibolite facies, the last metamolphism is mostly greenschist facies.
In order to obtain the basic data for recycling of coal mine tailings, the characteristics of coal mine tailings, the formation of AMD from the tailings and the leaching of heavy metal from the tailings were studied. The samples were characterized in terms of chemical composition, mineral composition and content of heavy metal of the tailings were investigated. The effects of time, temperature, content of pyrite, sulfide minerals on the formation of AMD were also investigated. For the leaching tests, the KS method, TCLP method and column test were used. From the investigated data, we can see that the coal mine tailings can be used as aggregate for filling used gallery. We can also see that the formation of AMD from coal mine tailings can be prevented by mixing 4% or more limestone with it.
