  • In recent years, advances in construction techniques and materials have given rise to flexible light-weight structures. Because these structures extremely susceptib environmental loads, these random loadings u produce large deflection and acceleration on structures. Vibration control system of structur becoming an integral part of the structural syst the next generation of tall building. The proposed control system is applied to s degree of structure with mass damping and com with conventional PID and neural network PID system.

  • The present solar energy concentrator is a 2-dimensional system that incorporates with a tubular absorber. A new design theory is developed on the basis of the generalized edge-ray principle. The result shows the increase of concentration ratio for the same acceptance angle as the basic CPC by a factor of $C_{new}=C_{cpc}\{1+(d/{\pi}r)\;sin^2{\theta}_c\}$. For example, if ${\theta}_c=30^{\circ}$, the new design offers the concentration of $2.0{\sim}2.72$, whereas $C_{cpc}=2$. The new system also provide a thin and light-weight design.

  • Recently, constructions of large and slender structures have been increased owing to the advancement of the structural technologies and that of the new light-weight and high-strength construction materials. Consequently, vibration problems of those slender structures have become a new issue in the area of structural engineering. Active control for those structures is the method that keeps the structures safe from the external loads, especially dynamic loads, by enforcing active forces derived from control devices. In this paper, a procedure for the instantaneous optimal control for structural vibration is presented. Numerical method and experiment are performed for evaluating the effectiveness of active control for reducing vibration of structures.

  • Recent days composite bridge deck is gaining attraction due to many advantages such as light weight, high strength, corrosion resistance, and high durability. In this study, composite sandwich deck models of hat, box, and triangular section type were fabricated by VARTM process. For those models, three point flexural test was carried out both in strong and weak axis. The experimental results are compared with each other to determine efficient section type. Also finite element analysis was performed and compared with experiments to verify analysis model. It has been demonstrated that composite sandwich deck can be used as bridge deck in the new construction and rehabilitation work.

  • State of the art and current issues related with the RC and PSC structure system for the German magnetic levitation train were investigated. The German magnetic levitation train adopted a new kind of a structure to enable high-speed transportation, which allows the use of the space over a ground. The loading from Transrapid is light-weight compared with a regular train due to load distribution to a supporting structure. Therefore, Transrapid is considered an economical and efficient transportation system, and is also an environmentaly-sustainable structure, In this paper, the structural design and construction technology specific to a magnetic levitation train were discussed, and structural considerations related with an actual operation of the train were pointed out. In addition, the future research area of a magnetic levitation train was proposed.

  • Steel braced frames retrofit method has been broadly used due to their effectiveness in both light weight and construction periods. However, steel braced frames retrofit method has difficulties in application on the inner frames of buildings to be retrofitted consequently, there have been demands for the braced frames retrofit method that can be broadly and easily applicable to both inner and outer frames of the buildings. The objective of this study is to develop and evaluate the seismic retrofit method applicable to the inner frame also by dividing the reinforcing frames into three unit. From the cyclic test of specimens, the test results dearly showed that steel brace using HPFRCCs and steel bars ensure the better cyclic compressive performance than the normal braced members.

  • In recent years, advances in construction techniques and materials have given rese to flexible light-weight structures like high-rise buildings and long-span bridges. Because these structures extremely susceptible to environmental loads, such as earthquakes and strong winds, these random loadings usually produce large deflection and acceleration on these structures. Vibration control system of structures are becoming an integral part of the structural system of the next generation of tall building. The proposed control system is applied to single degree of structure with mass damping and compared with conventional PID and neural network PID control system.

  • Recently, swash plate type hydraulic axial piston motors/pumps are being extensively used in the world, because of simple design, light weight and effective cost. Structural problem of the swash plate type motor/pump is that tilting angle of swash plate should be limited to relatively small value and lateral farce on pistons has an undesirable effect in reciprocating motion. To solve these problems, piston rod mechanism, which is commonly used in bent axis type motor/pump, is considered to be applied to the swash plate type motor/pump. In this paper, kinematic analysis was done on the piston rod mechanism. A series of formula were derived and numerical calculations were done for a set of motor parameters.

  • Compared with existing construction materials, ACM(Advanced Composites Material) possesses many advantage such as light-weight, high-strength, corrosion resistant properties, etc. In this study, utilizing those advantages of ACM, composite skin and comer plate for protection of concrete port structure are developed. Detailed procedure fur analysis, design and fabrication along with site installation for demonstration project are described. It is also demonstrated that pultrusion process for comer plate and VARTM process for composite skin are promising fabrication methods fer future civil infrastructure application.

압출성형을 이용한 플라스틱 방음벽 구조물 제작 연구 (Manufacturing of Plastic Noise Barrier Structure Using Extrusion Molding)

  • A plastic noise barrier is a structure installed to minimize noise, and it is composed of the main plate, sound-absorbing plate, and sound-absorbing material. Plastic noise barrier structures have several advantages compared to other products, such as light weight, anticorrosion, durability, easy assembly, rapid construction, and low costs. In this study, the main and sound-absorbing plates were manufactured through extrusion molding, and the sound-absorbing plate was finished with a press to improve the conventional injection molding. Extrusion molding dies and punch dies were designed, and a profile extrusion-molding system was developed. Thus, inexpensive and efficient sound-absorbing and main plates can be produced, and the noise barrier structure can be assembled rapidly. Additionally, a noise barrier structure with extended service life and excellent quality can be constructed by creating uniform free space to accommodate increased temperatures after assembly and installation.
