발광다이오드를 이용한 광파장에 따른 Chlorella vulgaris의 생장과 지방산 생산에 미치는 효과 (Effect of Light Quality on Growth and Fatty Acid Production in Chlorella vugaris Using Light Emitting Diodes)

  • Microalgae are considered as superior biodiesel producers, because they could effectively produce high amount of lipid with fast growth rate. In this study, Chlorella vulgaris was exposed to various light wavelengths (${\lambda}_{max}$ 470 nm, ${\lambda}_{max}$ 525 nm, and ${\lambda}_{max}$ 660 nm) using light emitting diodes (LEDs) to examine effect of light quality on their growth and fatty acid production in 0.4-L bubble column photobioreactors. Fluorescent lamps were also used as polychromatic light sources (control). From the results, biomass productivity was varied by light wavelength from 0.05 g/L/day to 0.30 g/L/day. Maximum biomass productivity was obtained from red LED among tested ones. We also observed that contents of oleic acid and linolenic acid, which affect biodiesel properties, were significantly changed depending on supplied wavelength. These results indicated that production of algal biomass, and fatty acid content and productivity could be improved or controlled by supplying specific light wavelength.

  • 본 논문은 가시광 통신(Visible Light Communication)시스템에서 고속 데이터 통신을 위한 line coding 기술 동향을 연구하였다. 가시광 통신(Visible Light Communication)기술은 LED를 사용하는 기기에서 나오는 가시광선(RGB)을 이용해서 정보를 전달하는 기술로서 친환경적이고 에너지 절감효과와 유비쿼터스 네트워크 서비스에 응용이 가능하다. 최근에 들어 홈 네트워킹 필요성의 증가와 LEDs (Light Emitting Diode Technologies)의 개선을 통해 가시광 통신 시스템에 관심이 높아지고 있다. 고속의 데이터 전송을 위하고 에러 검출에 효율적인 홈 네트워킹 환경을 위한 LED-ID 시스템 성능분석을 위해 적합한 line coding을 연구하고 NRZ, AMI, 4B5B, HDB3 line coding을 이용하여 홈 네트워킹 LED-ID 모델에 적용하고 LOS환경에서의 성능 비교를 하였다.

Synthesis and Properties of PCPP-Based Conjugated Polymers Containing Pendant Carbazole Units for LEDs

  • New poly(cyclopenta[def]phenanthrene) (PCPP)-based conjugated copolymers, containing carbazole units as pendants, were prepared as the electroluminescent (EL) layer in light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to show that most of them have higher maximum brightness and EL efficiency. The prepared polymers, Poly(2,6-(4-(6-(Ncarbazolyl)- hexyl)-4-octyl-4H-cyclopenta[def]phenanthrene)) (CzPCPP10) and Poly(2,6-(4-(6-(N-carbazolyl)- hexyl)-4-octyl-4H-cyclopenta[def]phenanthrene))-co-(2,6-(4,4-dioctyl-4H-cyclopenta[def]phenanthrene)) (CzPCPP7 and CzPCPP5), were soluble in common organic solvents and used as the EL layer in light-emitting diodes (LEDs) of configuration with ITO/PEDOT/polymer/Ca/Al device. The polymers are thermally stable with glass transition temperature (Tg) at 77-100 °C and decomposition temperature (Td) at 423-457 °C. The studies of cyclic voltammetry indicated same HOME levels in all polymers, although the ratios of carbazole units are different. In case of PLEDs with configuration of ITO/PEDOT/CzPCPPs/Ca/Al device, The EL maximum peaks were around 450 nm, which the turn-on voltages were about 6.0-6.5 V. The maximum luminescence of PLEDs using CzPCPP10 was over 4400 cd/m2 at 6.5 V, which all of the maximum EL efficiency were 0.12 cd/A. The CIE coordinates of the EL spectrum of PLEDs using CzPCPP10 was (0.18, 0.08), which are quite close to that of the standard blue (0.14, 0.08) of NTSC.

Effects of Light Quality and Intensity on the Carbon Dioxide Exchange Rate, Growth, and Morphogenesis of Grafted Pepper Transplants during Healing and Acclimatization

  • This study evaluated the influence of light quality and intensity during healing and acclimatization on the $CO_2$ exchange rate, growth, and morphogenesis of grafted pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) transplants, using a system for the continuous measurement of the $CO_2$ exchange rate. C. annuum L. 'Nokkwang' and 'Tantan' were used as scions and rootstocks, respectively. Before grafting, the transplants were grown for four weeks in a growth chamber with artificial light, where the temperature was set at $25/18^{\circ}C$ (light/dark period) and the light period was 14 hours $d^{-1}$. The grafted pepper transplants were then healed and acclimatized under different light quality conditions using fluorescent lamps (control) and red, blue, and red + blue light-emitting diodes (LEDs). All the transplants were irradiated for 12 hours per day, for six days, at a photosynthetic photon flux (PPF) of 50, 100, or 180 ${\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$. The higher PPF levels increased the $CO_2$ exchange rate during the healing and acclimatization. A smaller increase in the $CO_2$ exchange rates was observed in the transplants under red LEDs. At a PPF of 180 ${\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$, the $CO_2$ exchange rate of the transplants irradiated with red LEDs was lowest and it was 37% lower than those irradiated with fluorescent lamps. The $CO_2$ exchange rates of transplants irradiated with blue LEDs was the highest and 20% higher than those irradiated under fluorescent lamps. The graft take was not affected by the light quality. The grafted pepper transplants irradiated with red LEDs had a lower SPAD value, leaf dry weight, and dry matter content. The transplants irradiated with blue LEDs had longer shoot length and heavier stem fresh weight than those irradiated with the other treatments. Leaves irradiated with the red LED had the smallest leaf area and showed leaf epinasty. In addition, the palisade and spongy cells of the pepper leaves were dysplastic and exhibited hyperplasia. Grafted pepper transplants treated with red + blue LEDs showed similar growth and morphology to those transplants irradiated with fluorescent lamps. These results suggest that high-quality grafted pepper transplants can be obtained by healing and acclimatization under a combination of blue and red lights at a high PPF level.

지속적 바이오매스 생산을 위한 클로렐라 반연속 배양 연구: 발광다이오드(Light Emitting Diode) 광원 및 고농도 인과 질소를 함유한 배지 사용 효과를 중심으로 한 연구 (Optimum Semi-Continuous Cultivation of Chlorella sp. FC-21 for Production of Biomass: Light Emitting Diodes as a Light Source and High Concentrations of Nitrogen and Phosphate in Culture Media)

  • 본 연구는 담수미세조류의 일종인 클로렐라를 적색 발광다이오드를 이용하여 효율적으로 반연속 배양하기 위한 조건을 찾기 위해 수행되었다. 클로렐라 배양에 가장 효율적인 적색 LED를 사용하여 반연속배양을 실시하였으며, 배양 중 인과 질소가 급격히 감소하였으며 이는 클로렐라의 성장과 반비례의 관계를 보여 주었다. 효율적인 반연속 배양을 위해 인과 질소의 농도를 증가시킨 배지를 사용하여 배지교체 주기를 연장시켜 배양 효율성을 높였다. 배지교체 시 클로렐라의 셀 농도는 지속적으로 증가하였으나, 셀 크기는 감소하였다. 셀 농도와 셀 크기를 고려할 때 배양 전과정을 통해 생산되는 바이오매스의 양은 일정하게 유지되었다.

CaxSr2-xSiO4:Eu2+ Green-emitting Nano Phosphor for Ultraviolet Light Emitting Diodes

  • The aim of this work is to investigate the effect of $Ca_xSr_{2-x}$ and activator on the structural and luminescent properties of green-emitting $Ca_xSr_{2-x}SiO_4:Eu^{2+}$ nano phosphor. Using urea as fuel and ammonium nitrate as oxidizer, $Ca_xSr_{2-x}SiO_4:Eu^{2+}$ has been successfully synthesized, using a combustion method. The particles were found to be small, spherical and of round surface. SEM imagery showed that the phosphors particles are of nanosize. The $Ca_xSr_{2-x}SiO_4:Eu^{2+}$ emission spectrum for 360 nm excitation showed a single band, with a peak at 490 nm, which is a green emission. The highest luminous intensity was at $1,000^{\circ}C$, which was obtained when the $Eu^{2+}$ content (y) was 0.05. The results support the application of $Ca_xSr_{2-x}SiO_4:Eu^{2+}$ phosphor as a fluorescent material for ultraviolet light-emitting diodes (UV-LEDs). Characteristics of the synthesized $Ca_xSr_{2-x}SiO_4:Eu^{2+}$ phosphor were investigated by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and photoluminescence (PL) detection.

ZnO 나노로드 배열에 의한 GaN기반 광다이오드의 광추출율 향상 (Improved Light Output of GaN-Based Light-Emitting Diodes with ZnO Nanorod Arrays)

  • GaN-based light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with ZnO nanorod arrays on a planar indium tin oxide (ITO) transparent electrode were demonstrated. ZnO nanorods were grown into aqueous solution at low temperature of $90^{\circ}C$. Under 20 mA current injection, the light output efficiency of the LED with ZnO nanorod arrays on ITO was remarkably increased by about 40 % of magnitude compared to the conventional LED with only planar ITO. The enhancement of light output by the ZnO nanorod arrays is due to the formation of side walls and a rough surface resulting in multiple photon scattering at the LED surface.

  • 초기의 LED(light emitting diode)는 광 출력이 낮아 각종 기계장치의 Table 시용 소자로 많이 사용되었으나, LED 기술의 발달로 고출력 고휘도로 색 Table 현이 가능하게 되었다. 따라서 교통 신호등, 대형 전광판, 자동차Table 시과 같은 디스플레이로 사용하고 있으며, 높은 광량을 요구하는 백열등, 형광등과 같은 실내외 조명에서도 LED가 사용되고 있다. 항로Table 지에 사용되는 등명기 또한 전구에서 LED로 교체되었으며, 초기의 해상용 LED 등명기는 다수의 LED를 사용하여 제작되었다. 하지만 고출력 LED의 개발로 광학 설계만 새롭게 한다면 소수의 LED만을 사용하더라도 해상용 LED 등명기에서 요구하는 광도 및 배광을 만족시킬 수 있다.

Synthesis and Characterization of Novel Light-Emitting Copolymers with Electron-Withdrawing Substituents

  • We synthesized two new series of alternating copolymers, poly[bis(2-(4-phenylenevinylene)-2-cyanoethenyl)-9,9-dihexyl-9H-fluoren-2,7-yl-alt-1,4-phenylene](Polymer-I)and poly[bis(2-(4-phenylenevinylene)-2­cyanoethenyl)-9,9-dihexyl-9H-fluoren-2,7-yl-alt-2,7-(9,9-dihexylfluorene)](Polymer-II), via the Suzuki coupling reaction, for use in light-emitting diodes (LEDs). Defect-free uniformly thin films of these polymers were found to be easily formed on indium-tin oxide (ITO) coated glass substrates. Multi-layer LEDs with ITO/PEDOT/Polymer/ LiF/Al configurations with or without an $Alq_3$ electron transport layer were fabricated with these polymers. The maximum EL emissions of Polymer-I and Polymer-II with an $Alq_3/LiF/Al$ cathode were observed at 516 and 533 nm, respectively. The maximum brightness and external luminance efficiency of the devices fabricated with the EL polymers were found to be $411 cd/m^2$ and 0.16 cd/A, respectively.

  • A high light lantern system using LEDs is composed of power supply, flash controller, and daylight controller and proper case considering work condition. The performance of developed LED lantern is better than that of the existing marine lantern using an incandescent electric lamp and that of foreign products(Vega LED lantern made in New Zealand, Tideland system made in America). The electric consumption of our products is 30% compared with that of existing marine lantern using an incandescent electric lamp, and the luminous Intensity of them is 200% to 400% compared with that of existing marine lantern and foreign LED lantern. In addition, our LED lantern system is easy to repairing something wrong and changing the LED module and other controllers on the sea when they are in accident.
