  • A number of algorithms for improving the image quality of low light images have been studied using a single image or multiple exposure images. The low light image is low in contrast and has a large amount of noise, which limits the identification of information of the subject. This paper proposes the hardware design of algorithms that improve the quality of low light image using 2 multiple exposure images taken with a dual camera. The proposed hardware structure is designed in real time processing in a way that does not use frame memory and line memory using transfer function. The proposed hardware design has been designed using Verilog and validated in Modelsim. Finally, when the proposed algorithm is implemented on FPGA using xc7z045-2ffg900 as the target board, the maximum operating frequency is 167.617MHz. When the image size is 1920x1080, the total clock cycle time is 2,076,601 and can be processed in real time at 80.7fps.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the properties changes of wool fabrics dyed with safflower red and yellow colorants under Ultraviolet(UV)-light. For this purpose, the wool fabrics dyed with safflower red and yellow colorants were compared with each other after uv-light exposure in terms of K/S value, color changes(${\Delta}E$), morphology, and strength retention. K/S value rapidly decreased with increasing exposure time, but K/S value of the samples dyed with safflower yellow colorants decreased less than that of the samples dyed with safflower red colorants. In color changes, as increasing exposure time, $L^*$ and $b^*$ increased, $a^*$ decreased, and thereby ${\Delta}E$ increased in the samples dyed with safflower red colorants, $L^*$ increased, $a^*$ and $b^*$ decreased, and so ${\Delta}E$ increased in the samples dyed with safflower yellow colorants, indicating fading away by uv-light and changes of hue, value and chroma value. But the color change of samples dyed with safflower yellow colorants was less than that of samples dyed with safflower red colorants. SEM pictures showed a severe degradation by uv exposure, regardless of colorants type. Tensile strength slowly decreased until 14 days, and rapidly decreased until 21 days and slowly decreased. Strength retention of the samples dyed with safflower yellow colorants was higher than that of the samples dyed with safflower red colorants.

  • In this study, a spray dryer is used to make granules of Y2O3 and YF3, and then Y5O4F7 is synthesized following heat treatment of them under Ar gas atmosphere at 600 ℃. Single and binary monomer mixtures are compared and analyzed to optimize photocurable monomer system for DLP 3D printing. The mixture of HEA and TMPTA at 8:2 ratio exhibits the highest photocuring properties and low viscosity with shear thinning behavior. The optimized photocurable monomer and synthesized Y5O4F7 are therefore mixed and applied to printing process at variable solid contents (60, 70, 80, & 85 wt.%) and light exposure times. Under optimal light exposure conditions (initial exposure time: 1.2 s, basic exposure time: 5 s), YOF composites at 60, 70 & 80 wt.% solid contents are successfully printed. As a result of measuring the size of the printed samples compared to the dimensions of the designed bar type specimen, the deviation is found to increase as the YOF solid content increases. This shows that it is necessary to maximize the photocuring activity of the monomer system and to optimize the exposure time when printing using a high-solids ceramic slurry.

  • Phototactic behavioral responses of the Indian meal moth, Plodia interpunctella ($H{\ddot{u}}bner$), adults were determined to different light-emitting diodes (LEDs) of seven wavelengths, and their behavioral responses were compared to that using a commercial luring lamp (BLB) under laboratory conditions. Based on the attractive responses under optimal light conditions (60 lx luminance intensity and 30 min light exposure time), the green LED ($520{\pm}5nm$) showed the highest attractive rate ($520{\pm}5nm$, 52.2 %), followed by the blue LED ($470{\pm}10nm$, 33.9 %), the yellow LED ($590{\pm}5nm$, 32.2 %), BLB (28.9 %), UV LED (365 nm, 22.8 %), the red LED ($625{\pm}10nm$, 14.5 %), the white LED (450-620 nm, 10.6 %), and IR LED (730 nm, 9.5 %). In addition, the green LED to P. interpunctella adults was approximately 1.81 times more attractive than BLB. These results indicate that the green LED could be most useful for monitoring of P. interpunctella adults.

  • The purpose of this study was to measure the Micro-Knoop Hardness of three commercial visible light-cured composite resins (Plurafil-super, He1iosit and Durafi) according to the difference of depth and shade. Specimens of the resin were prepapared in plastic tubes 5mm in diameter with height of 5mm, and the tubes were put into the columned holes in stone molds. The molds were exposed to the visible light through the hole 5mm in diameter in metal plate. Specimens were sectioned (longitudinally) with disk. Knoop Hardness measurements were made at the depth of surface, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0mm from the surface to the deep portion. Knoop Hardness numbers were taken on each depth under 20gm load for 10 seconds with Shimadzu Tester. The following results were: 1. The highest hardness value was measured at 0.5mm depth. Then the deeper the depth, the lesser the hardness was observed. 2. The value of hardness was directly propotional to the time of exposure to the light. 3. The hardness of light shade resin was higher than the that of the dark shade. 4. The pattern of hardness change at varying depth is similar to all the experimental materials with no relation to the shade nor exposure time.

  • The effects of light exposure and light intensity on surface color of Hanwoo (Korean native cattle) beef and color stability of fresh normal and DFD (dark, firm, dry) muscles during 7 days at $4{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ under three display conditions (Dark, Light1000 and Light3000) were investigated. The $L^*$, $a^*$, $b^*$, $C^*$ values and R630-R580 were significantly (p<0.05) higher in normal beef than in DFD beef. The $a^*$, $b^*$, $c^*$ values and R630-R580 of normal beef increased during the first day of display except Light3000 group, then gradually decreased over time. The surfaces of Hanwoo beef accumulated more metmyoglobin in the light than in the dark. Also, the rate of decrease in redness during refrigerated storage was enhanced by light exposure and increase in light intensity. Discolorations were more rapid in DFD beef than normal beef. Increasing light intensity promoted not only discoloration but also lipid oxidation. Therefore storage in the dark is effective in retarding the formation of a brown color in Hanwoo beef.

  • The effect of electromagnetic field on aquatic organisms has received little attention. In the current study, the effect of 50Hz electromagnetic field on muscle histopathology of Caspian Sea Cyprinus carpio, a species of economic importance, was investigated. A total of 120 healthy fish were used in this study. They were classified randomly in one of two groups as follows: Control or unexposed EMF group and experimental group with 5 different magnetic field intensities (0.1, 1, 3, 5 and 7mT) at 2 different exposure times including 30 and 60 minutes. Fish in the experimental group were exposed only once. Two weeks after exposure, dorsal muscles sectioned transversely, stained and were examined using a light microscope. Histopathologic assessments showed significant difference between control and EMF exposed groups at both 30 min. (p<0.01) and 60 min. (p<0.001) exposure times. We report for the first time that electromagnetic field in interaction with muscular tissue of Cyprinus carpio exhibits a dual effect which depends on the field intensity, and exposure time. At short exposure time (30 min.), EMF stimulates muscle growth process. At longer exposure time (60 min.), EMF can damage muscle tissue and result in muscle necrosis. More research is required to elucidate precise mechanisms involved in muscle hypertrophy and pathologic changes.

  • Surface modification of vertically-aligned carbon nanotube (VACNT) is essential in order to meet specific demands for particular applications such as field emission displays, heat dissipation device and potential sun energy conversion due to their superior electrical and thermal conductivity and strong light absorption. In this study, we observe the effect of exposure to water vapor on a different lengths of the surfaces of VACNT. The study was conducted on three different lengths of the VACNT: short length around $200{\mu}m$, medium-length around $500{\mu}m$, and high length around 1 mm. Water exposure time ranges between 2-10 min and temperature of the water ranges from 60 to 120 oC. The result of water vapor exposure mainly show that increasing the exposure time and water temperature give rise to increase of the speed of change on the surface of the VACNT. Especially, the shorter VACNT change their surface morphology most rapidly.

  • This study experimentally investigates hydrophobic surfaces fabricated via additive manufacturing. Additive manufacturing, commonly known as 3D printing, is the process of joining materials to fabricate parts from 3D model data, usually in a layer-upon-layer manner. Digital light processing is used to fabricate hydrophobic surfaces in this study. This method uses photo-curable resins and ultraviolet (UV) sources. Moreover, this technique generally has faster shaping speeds and is advantageous for the fabrication of small components because it enables the fabrication of one layer at a time. Two photo-curable resins with different compositions are used to fabricate micro-patterns of hydrophobic surfaces. The resins are composed of a photo-initiator, monomer, and oligomer. Experiments are conducted to determine suitable process conditions for the fabrication of hydrophobic surfaces depending on the type of resin. The most important factors affecting the process conditions are the UV exposure time and slice thickness. The fabrication capability according to the process conditions is evaluated using the side and top views of the micro-patterns observed using a microscope. The micro-patterns are collapsed and intertwined when the exposure time is short because sufficient light (heat) is not applied to cure the photo-curable resin with a given slice thickness. On the other hand, the micro-patterns are attached to each other when the exposure time is prolonged because the over-curing time can cure the periphery of a given shape. When the slice is thicker, the additional curing area is enlarged in each slice owing to the straightness of UV light, and the slice surface becomes rough.

  • A functional polyethylene terephthalate substrate to increase light extraction efficiency of organic light-emitting diodes is studied. We formed nano-structured PET surfaces by controlling the power, gas, and exposure time of the linear ion-beam. The haze of the polyethylene terephthalate can be controlled from 0.2% to 76.0% by changing the peak-to-valley roughness of nano structure by adjusting the exposure cycle. The treated polyethylene terephthalate shows average haze of 76.0%, average total transmittance of 86.6%. The functional PET increases the current efficiency of organic light-emitting diodes by 47% compared to that of organic light-emitting diode on bare polyethylene terephthalate. In addition to polyethylene terephthalate with light extraction performance, by conducting additional research on the development of functional PET with anti-reflection and barrier performance, it will be possible to develop flexible substrates suitable for organic light-emitting diodes lighting and transparent flexible displays.
