  • ZnO thin films for light emission device have been deposited on sapphire and silicon substrates by pulsed laser deposition technique(PLD). A Nd:YAG laser was used with the wavelength of 355 nm. In order to investigate the emission properties of ZnO thin films, PL measurements with an Ar ion laser as a light source using an excitation wavelength of 351 nm and a power of 100 mW are used. All spectra were taken at room temperature by using a grating spectrometer and a photomultiplier detector. ZnO exhibited PL bands centered around 390, 510 and 640 nm, labeled near ultra-violet (UV), green and orange bands. Structural properties of ZnO thin films are analized with X-ray diffraction (XRD).

  • A synchrotron light source is useful in the vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) regime for olecular spectroscopy, such as photo absorption, photoionization, and dissociative hotoionization. In this research, we used a double-ion chamber (DIC) to measure hotoabsorption cross sections of a NO molecule in the wavelength range from 90 to 135 nm of 3B1 beam-line of the Pohang synchrotron light source with the resolution of the onochromator being 0.06 nm. The appearance wavelength for ionization was measured to be $134.19{\pm}0.09nm$ that is placed in the middle of the reported values though they don't agree with each other within the relative error limits. The auxiliary experimental works ave been done to test if there are any systematic error sources. The resultant ross-sections agree with previous results in general.

  • In this article a reliable and rapid method based on specific turbidimetry is proposed for the determination of sizes of nanoparticles. Conventionally in specific turbidimetry specific turbidities for a colloidal dispersion are measured as a function of light wavelength, and compared to theoretical values calculated from Mie scattering theory for presumed particle sizes. In contrast specific turbidity at a fixed wavelength is measured in the proposed method, and particle sizes are determined from the prepared calibration curve. The calibration curve is a plot of specific turbidity vs particle size and in this case the specific turbidities are measured for a couple of samples of known sizes.

  • In this paper, we were confirmed the optical characteristics of LED module by changing ambient temperature and driving current. When we supplied same driving current, the brightness quality drops due to an increased ambient temperature. The difference of brightness properties came out more large according to an increased driving current. Moreover, peak wavelength become shifted by long wavelength and declined output power by increasing driving current.

  • AThe effect of localized surface plasmon on silicon substrates was studied using silver nanoparticles. The nanoparticles were formed by self-arrangement through the surface energy using rapid thermal annealing (RTA) technique after the thin nanolayer of silver was deposited by thermal evaporation. By the theoretical calculation based on Mie scattering and dielectric function of air, indium tin oxide (ITO), and silver, the strong peak of scattering cross section of silver nanoparticles was found at 358 nm for air, and 460 nm for ITO, respectively. Accordingly, the strong suppression of reflectance under the condition of induced light of $30^{\circ}$ occurred at the specific wavelength which is almost in accordance with peak of scattering cross section. When the external quantum efficiency was measured using silicon solar cells with silver nanoparticles, there was small enhancement peak near the 460 nm wavelength in which the light was resonated between silver nanoparticles and ITO.

  • In this paper, we analyze the performance of a reliable, scalable, and cost-effective switchless wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) network based on an arrayed waveguide grating (AWG). The network efficiency is significantly increased by spatially reusing wavelengths and exploiting multiple free spectral ranges (FSRs) of the AWG employed in the architecture. We have analyzed the performance of this architecture by simulating in $Optsim^{TM}$ with a control channel which exploits the broadband light source, i.e., an LED. The data was successfully transmitted to a distance of 30 km without using any EDFA's in the network, with a reasonable BER of $4.0530{\times}10^{-14}$. We have analyzed the performance of this architecture with a control channel which exploits the broadband light source, i.e., an LED, by simulating in $Optsim^{TM}$.

  • The integration of high-capacity terrestrial networks with non-terrestrial communication using satellites has become essential to support seamless low-latency services based on artificial intelligence and big data. Tunable light sources have been instrumental in resolving the complexity of channel management in wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) systems, contributing to increased network flexibility and serving as optical sources for long-distance coherent systems. Recently, these light sources have been applied to beam-steering devices in laser communication and sensing applications across ground, aerial, and satellite transport. We examine the utilization and requirements of tunable lasers in WDM networks and describe the relevant development status. In addition, performance requirements and development directions for tunable lasers used in optical interference systems and beam-steering devices are reviewed.

  • The dyeing of Tencel fabric with Coptis chinensis Franch was studied. The colorant was extracted with distilled water under various concentrations of dyestuff, times, mordants. UV-VIS spectra were obtained to find the maximum wavelength and absorbance of colorant. Tencel fabric was dyed with different mordants in pre and post-mordanting methods. Maximum wavelength of spectrum was 343 nm, and K/S value of pre-mordant was higher than post-mordant. Aluminium and stannic mordants changed color from yellow to blue-greenish and red-bluish. Colorfastnesses of light, and washing were low grade, but that of perspiration was increased.

  • The dependance of degradation on the blue-peak wavelength is investigated with the blue light-emitting diode (LED) of InGaN/GaN with respect to the optical and the electrical characteristics of the devices. The LED devices emitting the blue-peak wavelength ranging from 437 nm to 452 nm is prepared to be stressed for a long aging time with three different currents of 60 mA, 75 mA and 90 mA, respectively. The degradation of optical intensity is observed with and without phosphor in the devices. The device without phosphor has been degraded significantly as the wavelength of blue-peak is decreased while the optical intensity of LED device with phosphor become less sensitive than that of device without phosphor. The electrical property does not depend on the emission peak wavelength. However, the series-resistance of LED device is slowly increased as the aging time is increased. The deformation of device is observed severely the short wavelength of blue-peak even with the same current since the short wavelength is absorbed substantially at the materials of device during the aging time. Consequently, in order to enhance the lifetime of LED devices, it is important to understand the optical degradation property of the materials against the specific wavelengths emitted from the blue chip.
