  • Social infrastructure such as production, transportation, gas, and electrical facilities would be degraded according to time and those facilities might need more maintenances, repairing, and management as time goes by. Especially, in the case of a power transformer, it is important to diagnose the transformer in order to avoid malfunction and failure because they could cause enormous damage. The economic as well as technical aspects of a transformer management must be considered while it is operated. Therefore, the concept of asset management should be applied as an advanced method of transformer management. Asset management refers to a series of processes to make a plan of maintenance and conservation of a power transformer considering the soundness, investment cost, and importance of equipment. It is important to apply the asset management considering calculation of a lifetime loss. In this paper, the lifetime loss calculation method of asset management for a power transformer is suggested.

  • This paper is to design an optimum power conversion device for the system required for development of a low cost 3-phase power inverter. For this purpose, in order to meet with endurance required by the industry, failure mode is standardized to guarantee lifetime of a power semiconductor by monitoring real time power loss and to facilitate failure mode analysis. As normality of heat loss of a power semiconductor is identified remaining in a certain range by comparing heat rise slope between that is calculated by using average current or average loss and that is measured at a heat sink, its feasibility is confirmed by experiment.

Bayesian Estimation of Three-parameter Bathtub Shaped Lifetime Distribution Based on Progressive Type-II Censoring with Binomial Removal

  • We consider the MLE (maximum likelihood estimate) and Bayesian estimates of three-parameter bathtub-shaped lifetime distribution based on the progressive type II censoring with binomial removal. Jung, Chung (2018) proposed the three-parameter bathtub-shaped distribution which is the extension of the two-parameter bathtub-shaped distribution given by Zhang (2004). Jung, Chung (2018) investigated its properties and estimations. The maximum likelihood estimates are computed using Newton-Raphson algorithm. Also, Bayesian estimates are obtained under the balanced loss function using MCMC (Markov chain Monte Carlo) method. In particular, BSEL (balanced squared error loss) function is considered as a special form of balanced loss function given by Zellner (1994). For comparing theirs MLEs with the corresponding Bayes estimates, some simulations are performed. It shows that Bayes estimates is better than MLEs in terms of risks. Finally, concluding remarks are mentioned.

  • Recently, the need of researches and developments about WSN(Wireless Sensor Network) technologies, which can be applied to services to regions where the access is difficult or services that require continuous monitoring, has gradually increased due to its expansion and efficiency of the application areas. In this paper, we analyze existing researches which focused on reducing packet loss rate and increasing lifetime of sensor nodes. Then, we conduct studies about performance improvement factors where some schemes - clustering and location-based approaches - are applied and compare our study results with existing researches. Based on our studies, we are planning to conduct researches about a new scheme that could contribute to improve WSN's performance in terms of packet loss rate and network lifetime.

Study on Filter Efficiency and Lifetime Enhancement by using Internal Structures (내부구조물을 이용한 필터의 효율 및 수명 상승에 대한 연구)

  • To improve the efficiency and lifetime of filters, we analyze the element distribution at the entrance and exit by using the flow inside a filter, confirming that the internal structure affects the filter efficiency. The flow in the pipe is predicted through computer simulations, and the filtration efficiency of each element is compared through experiments. The efficiency and lifetime of the filter are indirectly improved through the element distribution at the filter outlet according to the internal structure. Because pressure loss from the structure inevitably occurs, the efficiency and lifetime of filters against pressure loss must be considered.

Simulated Study on the Effects of Substrate Thickness and Minority-Carrier Lifetime in Back Contact and Back Junction Si Solar Cells

  • The BCBJ (Back Contact and Back Junction) or back-lit solar cell design eliminates shading loss by placing the pn junction and metal electrode contacts all on one side that faces away from the sun. However, as the electron-hole generation sites now are located very far from the pn junction, loss by minority-carrier recombination can be a significant issue. Utilizing Medici, a 2-dimensional semiconductor device simulation tool, the interdependency between the substrate thickness and the minority-carrier recombination lifetime was studied in terms of how these factors affect the solar cell power output. Qualitatively speaking, the results indicate that a very high quality substrate with a long recombination lifetime is needed to maintain the maximum power generation. The quantitative value of the recombination lifetime of minority-carriers, i.e., electrons in p-type substrates, required in the BCBJ cell is about one order of magnitude longer than that in the front-lit cell, i.e., $5{\times}10^{-4}sec$ vs. $5{\times}10^{-5}sec$. Regardless of substrate thickness up to $150{\mu}m$, the power output in the BCBJ cell stays at nearly the maximum value of about $1.8{\times}10^{-2}W{\cdot}cm^{-2}$, or $18mW{\cdot}cm^{-2}$, as long as the recombination lifetime is $5{\times}10^{-4}s$ or longer. The output power, however, declines steeply to as low as $10mW{\cdot}cm^{-2}$ when the recombination lifetime becomes significantly shorter than $5{\times}10^{-4}sec$. Substrate thinning is found to be not as effective as in the front-lit case in stemming the decline in the output power. In view of these results, for BCBJ applications, the substrate needs to be only mono-crystalline Si of very high quality. This bars the use of poly-crystalline Si, which is gaining wider acceptance in standard front-lit solar cells.

  • As of December 2016, there are 608,828 elevators in operation in Korea and 179,790 elevators in more than 15 years. 30.4% of all elevator are aging. Improved maintenance of the elevator and proactive replacement of the parts of the elevator can extend the lifetime of the elevator and ensure safety. An unclean environment reduces the lifetime of elevator parts. If you do not clean the environment and prevent preventive parts replacement, eventually shortening the lifetime of the parts connected to the failed part or causing more damage will result in greater economic loss. Also, the risk of elevator safety accidents due to failures of elevator parts will be increased accordingly. The study of optimum replacement time of elevator parts will contribute to prevention of safety accident of elevator and prolongation of lifetime of elevator through preventive replacement of elevator parts.

Network Coding-based Maximum Lifetime Algorithm for Sliding Window in WSNs

  • Network coding (NC) is a promising technology that can improve available bandwidth and packet throughput in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). Sliding window is an improved technology of NC, which is a supplement of TCP/IP technology and can improve data throughput and network lifetime on WSNs. This paper proposes a network coding-based maximum lifetime algorithm for sliding window in WSNs (NC-MLSW) which improves the throughput and network lifetime in WSN. The packets on the source node are sent on the WSNs. The intermediate node encodes the received original packet and forwards the newly encoded packet to the next node. Finally, the destination node decodes the received encoded data packet and recovers the original packet. The performance of the NC-MLSW algorithm is studied using NS2 simulation software and the network packet throughput, network lifetime and data packet loss rate were evaluated. The simulations experiment results show that the NC-MLSW algorithm can obviously improve the network packet throughput and network lifetime.

Cluster Routing for Service Lifetime of Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks (무선 멀티미디어 센서 네트워크의 서비스 수명을 위한 클러스터 라우팅)

  • This paper proposes a new cluster-based routing protocol for assuring the service lifetime of wireless multimedia sensor networks. The proposed protocol performs the intra-cluster routing and inter-cluster routing to reduce the energy consumption and service lifetime in the wireless sensor multimedia computing environment, and the proposed mechanism enhances the routing reliability, and it minimizes the packet loss, overhead, and energy consumption. The simulation results show that the proposed mechanism outperforms DSR and AODV.

  • In this paper, we designed the accelerated life testing(ALT) and presented the lifetime prediction method of the RF SAW duplexer. We determined RF input power as an accelerated stress when designing an accelerating life testing and defined the lifetime of the duplexer as the period during which the insertion loss increased by 0.5[dB]. Lifetime prediction results of duplexer was estimated for 82,900hours at an ambient temperature of $85^{\circ}C$ and RF input power of 30[dBm].
