  • This study was carried out to evaluate the forage yield and feed value of winter crops such as Italian ryegrass (IRG), oat, rye, barley, and hairy vetch. Forage crops were sown on 15th October 2018 in a paddy field after harvesting rice and forage crops were harvested at two times of 25th April 2019 and 18th May 201 9. The highest dry matter (DM) yield was harvested from rye among the five species of forage crop on 18th May. DM yield of all forages was increased 14.4% on 18th May compared to 25th April. The highest yield of crude protein (CP) was obtained from hairy vetch on 25th April, whereas it was decreased (38.1%) on 18th May. Moreover, the highest total digestible nutrient (TDN) yield and relative feed value (RFV) was harvested respectively from rye and hairy vetch on 25th April. Delay of harvest time considerably increased DM yield but significantly decreased CP and RFV. In conclusion, rye was the best source of DM and TDN and hairy vetch was the high-quality feed. Rye harvested on 25th April is the proper forage for resolving Korea's problem of insufficient forage yield.

  • Abstract: A minimum commitment method(MCM) was applied to predict the long-term creep rupture life for type 316LN stainless steel(SS). Lots of the creep-rupture data for the type 316LN SS were collected through world-wide literature surveys and the experimental data of KAERI. Using these data, the long-term creep rupture life above ${10}^5$ hour was predicted by means of the MCM. In order to obtain the most appropriate value for the constant A being used in the MCM equation, trial and error method was used for the wide ranges from -0.12 to 0.12, and the best value was determined by using the coefficient of determination, $R^2$ which is a statistical parameter. A suitable value for the A in type 316LN stainless steel was found to be at -0.02 ~ -0.05 ranges. It is considered that the MCM will be superior in creep-life prediction to commonly-used timetemperature parametric method, because the P(T) and G($\sigma$) functions are determined from the regression method based on experimental data.

  • Quality characteristics of sausage with added pine needle powder (0%, 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5%, 2.0%, and 2.5%) as an ingredient. The basic ingredients of sausage consisted of pork meat 60%, olive oil 20%, and ice water 20%. Sensory properties of sausage were analyzed by a sensory test, and the texture and color characteristics were measured using a texturometer and color meter, respectively. In the results of the sensory test, taste, texture, and overall preference were highest in the sample with added 1.5% pine needle powder. The sausage with added 1.5% pine needle powder was moderate in color intensity, pine needle flavor, and astringent taste. Hardness and gumminess of sausage were higher in 1.0% and 1.5% pine needle powder. However, springness and chewiness of sausage showed no significant differences. In terms of color intensity of sausage, L-value and a-value were lower and b-value was higher, depending on the pine needle powder amount. Development of off-flavor of sausage during storage was greater in 0% and 1.5% added sausages than in 2.0% sausage with increasing storage time. As a conclusion, sausages with added 1.5% and 2.0% pine needle powder were the most suitable for making functional sausage with added pine needle powder.

  • Soybean hull is an attractive feedstock for glucose production. To increase the glucose conversion in acid hydrolysis, a pretreatment method combined steam explosion with alkali pretreatment for soybean hull was studied. For first step pretreatment, steam explosion conditions (log Ro 2.45) were optimized to obtain maximum solid recovery and cellulose content. In the second step pretreatment, the conditions for potassium hydroxide pretreatment of steam exploded soybean hull were optimized by using RSM (response surface methodology). The optimum conditions for minimum lignin content were determined to be 0.6% potassium hydroxide concentration, $70^{\circ}C$ reaction temperature and 198 min reaction time. The predicted lignin content was 2.2% at the optimum conditions. Experimental verification of the optimum conditions gave the lignin content in similar value with the estimated value of the model. Finally, glucose conversion of pretreated soybean hull using acid hydrolysis resulted in $97.1{\pm}0.4%$. This research of two-step pretreatment was a promising method for increasing the glucose conversion in the cellulose-to-glucose process.

  • In this study, the influence of water temperature and salinity on sand ejection of Manila clams, Ruditapes philippinarum, was investigated. The result showed that, under different water temperature, the highest quantity of sand ejection was at $20^{\circ}C$, the value of which was 0.091 g, while the smallest one was only 0.058 g at 0$^{\circ}C$. The highest releasing rate, 95.79%, could be seen in $20^{\circ}C$ group, while $0^{\circ}C$ group was the lowest one, 85.29%. Under different salinity, 30 psu group had the highest value, 0.057 g, and 0 psu (freshwater) group was the lowest one, only 0.026 g. At the same time, the highest releasing rate appeared at 25 psu, which was 90%. 0 psu group was the lowest one in releasing rate, 60.47%. According to these results, we recommend that the clams should be placed into the clear seawater with about 25 psu of salinity at near $20^{\circ}C$ to let the clams perform the self-depuration. Better quality of clams containing less impurity in the aquaculture and commerce could be obtained from this pre-treatment.

  • Rapid informatization and technology advance in the 21st century has invited a new paradigm and changed many things in human life pattern. The impact of mobility seen in this digital nomadism has brought about, when it comes to clothing, a change in its unique meaning, that is, the graftage of high technology onto present nomad's life style who live moving around all the time due to the expansion of mobile environment. As the fruits of this expansion of mobile environment and technology advance in wireless telecommunication, easy-to-carry smaller sized devices such as cell phones, PDA, and MP3 players represent the present times, while the future would be an 'era of wearing' in which kinds of electronic devices and systems are integrated into clothing. Thus in this study, concept of wearable computer seen in the 21st century's digital nomadism was reviewed, and figurativeness and anesthetic value of wearable computer were discussed in association with the change in high style image resulted from technology advance and change of life style. By drawing a justice from which, value of future fashion was also prospected.

  • This study investigated 62 nested quadrat plots of Jinaksan to identify community classification and changes of the vegetation by using the phytosocial method and analyzed importance values. Vegetation types were classified into 8 communities: Quercus mongolica community, Q. variableis community, Q. aliena community, Pinus densiflora, Q. acutissima, Zelkova serrata, Carpinis laxiflora, and C. tschonoskii. The significance value was highest in Q. mongolica (62.75) followed by P. densiflora (55.16), Q. variabilis community (25.03), Z. serrata (22.17), Q. aliena (18.30), Prunus serrulata var. pubescens (16.86), C. laxiflora (13.25), Q. acutissima (10.72), C. tschonoskii (10.08), Q. serrata (8.02), Fraxinus sieboldiana (6.93), Acer pseudosieboldianum (6.73), and Styrax obassis (5.73). Quercus mongolica displayed a stable distribution pattern, presenting a reverse J-shaped curve from the diameter at breast height (DBH) analysis, and it was judged that current state would be maintained for a certain period. In addition, P. densiflora is expected to dominate for the time being and Quercus species are expected to gradually decrease.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of vase material and floral preservative treatment over time on flower color, leaf color and flower size of cut flowers Rosa hybrida 'Aqua' and 'Corvernet', and Gerbera jamesonii 'Honeymoon' and 'Golden Time' stuck in a glass, porcelain, or onggi (pottery with a dark bronze glaze) vase containing either tap water or a floral preservative solution. The ${\Delta}E$ values in flower color of 'Aqua' rose at 8 days after treatment with a floral preservative in onggi and porcelain vases were low. The ${\Delta}E$ value of 'Covernet' rose treated with floral preservative in an onggi vase was the lowest and L value was the closest to that of petals of cut flowers at just before treatment (control). The ${\Delta}E$ value of 'Honeymoon' gerbera treated with a floral preservative in an onggi vase was the lowest and a value of 58.81 and b value of 34.29 were the closest to that of the control group as color of cut flowers in an onggi vase was similar to the color at the beginning of treatment. The ${\Delta}E$ value of 'Golden Time' gerbera treated in an onggi vase was significantly lower than that in a porcelain or glass vase and a value of -7.81 treated with a floral preservative solution in an onggi vase was the closest to the control and b value was high in an onggi vase as well. The L, a, and b values in leaf color of roses were similar to each value of the control and ${\Delta}E$ value of 3.25 measured in an onggi vase was lower than that in a porcelain or glass vase. Flower diameter of 'Covernet' and 'Golden Time' roses treated with a floral preservative in an onggi vase was greater than that in other treatments. From these results, the floral preservative applied to a holding solution is assumed to improve the quality and freshness of cut roses and gerberas by inhibiting microbes propagation and by promoting uptake of water and nutrients. The onggi vase with fine pores will promote the expression and maintenance of flower and leaf colors and may increase flower diameter by high air permeability.
