The Electrical Resistance Probe of carbon steel and weight loss coupons were exposed in atmosphere and in the lake water of Hanoi. The comparison of data received by two methods after one year exposure was presented. The correspondence of the data of these methods on the exposure time in both environments showed a capacity of using Electrical Resistance Probe in Vietnamese natural corrosion testing of Carbon steel.

The discovery that threosyl phosphonate nucleoside (PMDTA, $EC_{50}=2.53{\mu}M$) is a potent anti-HIV agent has led to the synthesis and biological evaluation of 5'-deoxy versions of threosyl phosphonate nucleosides. In the present study, (E)-3'-phosphonoalkenyl and 3'-phosphonoalkyl nucleoside analogues 13, 16, 20 and 23 were synthesized from acetol and tested for anti-HIV activity and cytotoxicity. The adenine analogue 16 was found to exhibit moderate in vitro anti-HIV-1 activity ($EC_{50}=22.2{\mu}M$).

Choosing the most suitable mathematical model and relating this to turbulent tangential tensions model are very important in the investigations of turbulent two-phase flow. This paper considers two-fluid scheme. According to it, two phases have their own densities, velocities, and temperatures at any spatial point and at any moment. The equations of motion and heat transfer for each phase are linked with the forces of interaction between two phases. These forces are considered as predominant for the flow. As a closure in the system of motion equations, one modification of $K - {\epsilon}$ turbulent model is worked out. The modification uses two equations for turbulent kinetic energy of the phases and one - for the turbulent energy loss of main phase. This model can be set as a $K_g - K_p -{\epsilon}$ model. The modified model has been tested for both a two-phase non-isothermal flat jet and axially symmetrical jet. The numerical results are compared with the reference data revealing a good agreement between them.

It is net easy to predict the shrinkage rate of a plastic injection mold in its design process. The shrinkage rate should be considered as one of the important performances to produce the reliable products. The shrinkage rate can be determined by suing the CAE tools in the design produces. However, since the analysis can take minutes to hours, the high computational costs of performing the analysis limit their use in design optimization. In this study, the surrogate models based on the DACE is used in lien of the original models, facilitating design optimization.

With increasing recognition on conservation of endangered species in Taiwan, one of the major conservation projects is the habitat restoration of Formosan Landlocked Salmon which is major threatened by check dams in the channel for their blockading pathway to upstream and causing the problems of population isolation and close-blood mating. By creating an opening in the central dam body appropriately, partial removal dams can provide pathway for the fish for the better upstream channel habitat. Four check dams at Gau-Shan Creek were remodeled between April of 1999 and September of 2002 with information supported from model experiments under certain hydraulic condition of field environment. Based on the follow-up investigation, the channel morphology of observation sections is in stable condition and the total number of Formosan Landlocked Salmon in this creek increased promptly at the reach containing partial-removed dams.

The solitary wasp genus Phimenes (Hymenoptera: Vespidae: Eumeninae) was reported to occur in Vietnam by , represented by one taxon, Phimenes flavopictus continentalis (Zimmermann), which was synonymized under nominotypical Phimenes flavopictus by . A note on gender of this genus is made in the text. One more species, Phimenes indosinensis is recorded in this study from Dak Lak in the southern and Son La in the northwestern parts of Vietnam for the first time. Detailed descriptions of the female and male of the latter are provided with figures. A key to the two species from Vietnam is also provided.

Presented in this paper is an algorithm for finding all intersections among polygonal chains with an O((n+k)·log m) worst-case time complexity, where n is the number of lien segments in the polygonal chains, k is the number of intersections, and m is the number of monotone chains. The proposed algorithm is based on the sweep line algorithm. Unlike the previous polygonal-chain intersection algorithms that are designed to handle special only cases, such as convex polygons or C-oriented polygons, the proposed algorithm can handle arbitrarily shaped polygonal chains having self-intersections and singularities (tangential contact, multiple intersections). The algorithms has been implemented and applied to 1) testing simplicity of a polygon, 2) finding intersections among polygons and 3) offsetting planar point-sequence curves.

This paper designs the high-efficiency and the low-cost drive system of the smallsize electric vehicles (EVs). The power circuit for driving the dc motor is designed by considering both the cost and efficiency. In order to reduce the conduction loss of MOTFET and diode for controlling an armature voltage, some MOSFETs and diodes at the armature are in parallel connection. An operating sequence for both the field current and the armature voltage according to the accelerator pedal angle is suggested for changing smoothly the rotating direction of dc motor. Through the simulation studies, the performances of the proposed methods are verified.

Transient current (TC) on bulk-state liquid crystal mixtures was measured. We found that TC is very sensitive to impurities and the features of TC curves depend on the type of contamination, from which the quality of materials can be definitely evaluated and the type of impurities can also be revealed.
