The experiment is conducted on the rapidly rotating incompressible flow within a confined cylinder using LDV(Laser Doppler Velocimetry). The configurations of interest are the flows between a rotating upper disk with a bar and a stationary lower disk enclosed within a cylinder. The flow is considered to be an axisymmetric undisturbed basic flow. The results show that the flow is strongly dependent on the radius and the shape of bar but is negligibly affected by the Reynolds number in turbulent flow. It is observed that in the lid-driven case the main forms near the wall as the Reynolds number increases. The thin bar causes the second axial flow due to the suction effect and the thick bar causes the main flow to be pulled toward the surface of the bar. The step bar shows the dual effect of the two. 1:2 tilt bar shows that the main flow distributes wider than the other cases in which interference occurs due step bar.

The numerical diffusion arising from streamline-to-grid skewness produces a deteriorating effect on the numerical accuracy. The QUICKER scheme to reduce the numerical diffusion requires more computational effort than the HYBRID scheme. This paper deals with the relative computational efficiencies of adopting QUICKER scheme with a coarser grid system and of adopting HYBRID scheme with a denser grid system. Laminar driven cavity flow with Re=400, 1000 is used as a test problem. It is found that QUICKER scheme with a coarser grid system is more efficient than the HYBRID scheme with a denser grid system.
As an alternative for solving the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations, we present a vorticity-based integro-differential formulation for vorticity, velocity and pressure variables. One of the most difficult problems encountered in the vorticity-based methods is the introduction of the proper value-value of vorticity or vorticity flux at the solid surface. A practical computational technique toward solving this problem is presented in connection with the coupling between the vorticity and the pressure boundary conditions. Numerical schemes based on an iterative procedure are employed to solve the governing equations with the boundary conditions for the three variables. A finite volume method is implemented to integrate the vorticity transport equation with the dynamic vorticity boundary condition . The velocity field is obtained by using the Biot-Savart integral derived from the mathematical vector identity. Green's scalar identity is used to solve the total pressure in an integral approach similar to the surface panel methods which have been well-established for potential flow analysis. The calculated results with the present mettled for two test problems are compared with data from the literature in order for its validation. The first test problem is one for the two-dimensional square cavity flow driven by shear on the top lid. Two cases are considered here: (i) one driven both by the specified non-uniform shear on the top lid and by the specified body forces acting through the cavity region, for which we find the exact solution, and (ii) one of the classical type (i.e., driven only by uniform shear). Secondly, the present mettled is applied to deal with the early development of the flow around an impulsively started circular cylinder.

QUICKER scheme has several attractive properties. However, under highly convective conditions, it produces overshoots and possibly some oscillations on each side of steps in the dependent variable when the flow is convected at an angle oblique to the grid line. Fortunately, it is possible to modify the QUICKER scheme using non-linear and linear functional relationship. Details of the development of polynomial upwinding scheme are given in this paper, where it is seen that this non-linear scheme has also third order accuracy. This polynomial upwinding scheme is used as the basis for the SHARPER and SMARTER schemes. Another revised scheme was developed by partial modification of QUICKER scheme using CDS and UPWIND schemes(QUICKUP). These revised schemes are tested at the well known bench mark flows, Two-Dimensional Pure Convection Flows in Oblique-Step, Lid Driven Cavity Flows and Buoyancy Driven Cavity Flows. For pure convection oblique step flow test problem, QUICKUP, SMARTER and SHARPER schemes remain absolutely monotonic without overshoot and oscillation. QUICKUP scheme is more accurate than any other scheme in their relative accuracy. In high Reynolds number Lid Driven Cavity Flow, SMARTER and SHARPER schemes retain lower computational cost than QUICKER and QUICKUP schemes, but computed velocity values in the revised schemes produced less predicted values than QUICKER scheme which is strongly effected by overshoot and undershoot values. Also, in Buoyancy Driven Cavity Flow, SMARTER, SHARPER and QUICKUP schemes give acceptable results.

Time-dependent Flow characteristics of a two-dimensional lid-driven square cavity flow of six high Reynolds numbers, $10^4 2{\times}lO^4., 3{\times}l0^4, 5{\times}lO^4, 7.5{\times}lO^4$ and $10^5$ were investigated. A convection conservative difference scheme based upon SOLA to maintain the nearly 2nd-order spatial accuracy was adopted on irregular grid formation. Irregular grid number is $80{\times}80$ and its minimum size is about 1/400 of the cavity height(H) and its maximum is about 1/53 H. The result shows that at Re= $10^4$, periodic migration of small eddies appearing in corner separation region and its temporal sinusoidal fluctuation are represented. And another critical Reynolds number which shows the commencement of flow randomness emerging from the periodic fluctuation is assumed to be around Re= $1.5{\times}10$. At five higher Reynolds numbers ($2{\times}lO^4., 3{\times}l0^4, 5{\times}lO^4, 7.5{\times}lO^4$ and $10^5$), an organizing structure of four consecutive vortices similar to a Moffat vortex at two lower corners is revealed from time-mean flow patterns.

In this study, performance of the multi-stage explicit methods for numerical computation of the unsteady Navier-Stokes equations is investigated. Three methods under consideration are 1 st-, 2 nd-, and 4 th-order Runge-Kutta (R-K) methods. Compared in this estimation is stability, accuracy, and CPU time of each method. The computational codes developed are applied to the two-dimensional flow in a square cavity driven by an oscillating lid. It turned out that at Reynolds number 400, the 1 st-order R-K method is the best, while at 3200 the 2 nd-order R-K is recommended. At higher Reynolds numbers, it is conjectured that the 4 th-order R-K method will be the best algorithm among three due to its highest stability.
In this study an iterative procedure for the analysis of drilled shafts was proposed on the basis of the load transfer mechanism. Special attention was given to the estimation of bearing capacity of drilled shafts which was compared with driven piles, and then with the results of pile load test. The load displacement at the pile head was calculated by load than sfer curves (t -z curves, q-z curves) by using Vljayvergiya, Castelli and hi -linear models. Bab ed on the analytical results, it is found that the behavior of drilled shafts is different from that of driven piles the smaller the skin friction mobilized at the pile-boil interface, the smaller the development of the bearing capacity. Hence the greater pile head movement is required to mobilize the same mainitride of bearing capacity. This trend is more noticeable in sand than in clay. It is also found that as the length-todiameter ratios increase, the dirtference of ultimate bearing capacity between drilled shafts and driven piles is becoming lass ger in sand, but it is minor in clay.
This paper evaluates performances of a recently developed divergence-free finite element method based on Hermite interpolated stream functions. Velocity bases are derived from Hermite interpolated stream functions to form divergence-free basis functions. These velocity basis functions constitute a solenoidal function space, and the simple gradient of the Hermite functions constitute an irrotational function space. The incompressible Navier-Stokes equation is orthogonally decomposed into a solenoidal and an irrotational parts, and the decoupled Navier-Stokes equations are projected onto their corresponding spaces to form proper variational formulations. To access accuracy and convergence of the present algorithm, three test problems are selected. They are lid-driven cavity flow, flow over a backward-facing step and buoyancy-driven flow within a square enclosure. Hermite interpolation functions from cubic to quintic are chosen to run the test problems. Numerical results are shown. In all cases it has shown that the present method has performed well in accuracies and convergences. Moreover, the present method does not require an upwinding or a stabilized term.

The typical trunk lid system for vehicle is composed of a hinge having 4-bar link and gas lifter. Here, the energy regenerative brake of hydraulic driven systems is applied to the tail gate system for vehicle and removed the gas lifter. The new tail gate system is composed of a hydraulic pump by electric motor, a hydraulic motor, four check valves, an accumulator, a relief valve and a directional control valve. The dynamic characteristics of the hydraulic motor system, such as the surge pressure and response time, are investigated in both brake action and acceleration action. The capacity selection method of accumulator by mathematical model is based upon trial and error approach and computer simulation by AMEsim software is carried out.
The divergence-free finite elements introduced in this paper are derived from Hermite functions, which interpolate stream functions. Velocity bases are derived from the curl of the Hermite functions. These velocity basis functions constitute a solenoidal function space, and the gradient of the Hermite functions constitute an irrotational function space. The incompressible Navier-Stokes equation is orthogonally decomposed into its solenoidal and irrotational parts, and the decoupled Navier-Stokes equations are then projected onto their corresponding spaces to form appropriate variational formulations. The degrees of the Hermite functions we introduce in this paper are bi-cubis, quartic, and quintic. To verify the accuracy and convergence of the present method, three well-known benchmark problems are chosen. These are lid-driven cavity flow, flow over a backward facing step, and buoyancy-driven flow within a square enclosure. The numerical results show good agreement with the previously published results in all cases.
