A Study on the Identification of Open Source License Compatibility Violations (오픈 소스 라이선스 양립성 위반 식별 기법 연구)

  • Open source software is used in various ways when developing new softwares all around the world. It requires rights and responsibilities as a form of an open source software license. Because the license is a contract between original software developers of the open source software and users, we must follow it and extremely cautious to avoid copyright infringement. In particular, we must verify license compatibility when we develop new software using the existing open source softwares. However, license violation issues always occur and lead to lawsuits so that they are having an adverse effect on the open source software ecosystem. Thus, in this paper, we propose a method, OSLC-Vid, to identify license violations whether compatibility issues exist between open source softwares. The proposed method is verified by the experiments to detect actual license violation cases.

Identifying the Factors Affecting the First Traffic Violation Duration by Novice Drivers (초보운전자 생애 첫 교통법규 위반기간에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • PURPOSES : This study deals with first traffic violations occurred by novice drivers, which may be associated with traffic accidents. The objective of this study is to identify what kinds of drivers' characteristics influence on duration till the first traffic violation. METHODS : For the study, Survival Analysis and Cox proportional hazard model, that are usually used in the medical field, were employed. Survival Analysis was conducted to investigate whether there exist differences in survival duration by each covariate, whereas Cox proportional hazard model was used to identify significant factors that affect survival duration till novice drivers violate traffic regulations for the first time after getting a driver license. RESULTS : The results of Survival Analysis indicate that female, age (less than 21), low-frequency examinee of written exam, and non-crash involved drivers have longer duration till the first violation compared to male, greater than 21 years old, high-frequency examinee of written exam, and crash involved drivers, respectively. For the Cox proportional hazard model, license class 1 acquisitor was found to increase the survival duration till the first traffic violation was made, while male, age of 21-24, age of 25-34, age of 45-54, and crash involved drivers were more likely to reduce the survival duration. CONCLUSIONS : Absolutely, traffic violation is closely related to traffic accidents and all of the drivers should keep the traffic regulations to enhance highway safety. The results of this study might provide some insights to construct safe road environments by controlling the factors that reduce the traffic violation duration of novice drivers.

Segmentation and Recognition of Korean Vehicle License Plate Characters Based on the Global Threshold Method and the Cross-Correlation Matching Algorithm

  • The vehicle license plate recognition (VLPR) system analyzes and monitors the speed of vehicles, theft of vehicles, the violation of traffic rules, illegal parking, etc., on the motorway. The VLPR consists of three major parts: license plate detection (LPD), license plate character segmentation (LPCS), and license plate character recognition (LPCR). This paper presents an efficient method for the LPCS and LPCR of Korean vehicle license plates (LPs). LP tilt adjustment is a very important process in LPCS. Radon transformation is used to correct the tilt adjustment of LP. The global threshold segmentation method is used for segmented LP characters from two different types of Korean LPs, which are a single row LP (SRLP) and double row LP (DRLP). The cross-correlation matching method is used for LPCR. Our experimental results show that the proposed methods for LPCS and LPCR can be easily implemented, and they achieved 99.35% and 99.85% segmentation and recognition accuracy rates, respectively for Korean LPs.

  • Open source has many advantages and is widely used in various fields. However, legal disputes regarding copyright and licensing of datasets and learning models have recently arisen in artificial intelligence developments. We examine how datasets affect artificial intelligence learning and services from the perspective of copyrighting and licensing when datasets are used for training models. The licensing conditions of datasets can lead to copyright infringement and license violation, thus determining the scope of disclosure and commercialization of the trained model. In addition, we examine related legal issues.

  • In this paper, we introduce a system that detects all kinds of violations at a street intersection such as red light running, speed violation, stop line violation and lane violation by tracking individual vehicles. Two cameras are used for defecting violations. One is an analog camera for real-time tracking and the other is a digital camera for license plate reading. This system is connected to the traffic signal system controller and monitors the red, arrow, yellow and green phases of an approach. Two loops in the road are used to detect vehicle approach and speed.   • This research was verified detection way of intercept vehicles and performance evaluation after system installation using image detector as detection way of ground installation. By image recognition algorithm was on the trace of moving orbit of violation vehicles for detection way of intercept vehicles. When moving orbit is located special site, utilized geometric image calibration and DC-notch filter. These are cognitive system of license plate by making signal. Then, Bright Evidence Detection and Dark Evidence Detection were applied to after mixing. It is applied to way of Backward tracking for detection way of intercept vehicles. After the field evaluation of developed system, it should be analyzed the more high than recognition rate of minimum standards 80%. It should rise in the estimation of the site applicability is highly from now.

  • Free and open source software (FOSS) has created a large pool of source codes that can be easily copied to create new applications. However, a copy should preserve copyright notice and license of the original file unless the license explicitly permits such a change. Through software evolution, it is challenging to keep original licenses or choose proper licenses. As a result, there are many potential license violations. Despite the fact that violations can have high impact on protecting copyright, identification of violations is highly complex. It relies on manual inspections by experts. However, such inspection cannot be scaled up with open source software released daily worldwide. To make this process scalable, we propose the following two methods: use machine-based algorithms to narrow down the potential violations; and guide non-experts to manually inspect violations. Using the first method, we found 219 projects (76.6%) with potential violations. Using the second method, we show that the accuracy of crowds is comparable to that of experts. Our techniques might help developers identify potential violations, understand the causes, and resolve these violations.

  • The Internet technologies allows anybody who has connect a network to access various multimedia information. But, it brings new issues about the violation of intellectual property and copyright of multimedia contents. Digital right managements have been actively studied as approaches to solve them. In this paper, we propose license-based schemes for the protection of contents and its rights on digital right management. The proposed schemes provide limited distribution and superdistribution of contents, and guarantee to securely use contents by usage rules.

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze the differences between the severity of punishments for traffic laws related offenders and the choice of policy measures with a view to reducing traffic accidents. To this end, government data on the drivers given a sentence of license suspension or revocation were collected and analyzed in terms of sex, age, type of driver's license, driving career, number of traffic laws violations, and number of traffic accidents generated. The statistics of analysis of covariance and tests of significance were used and conducted to compare the effectiveness of punishment for the penalty and the incentive groups. The results showed that the incentive policy measure on the drivers who violate traffic regulations repeatedly is more effective to reduce the number of traffic offenders and traffic accidents.
