In the society of lifelong learning, a school library has to play an important educational role in improving self-directed learning ability that school education is seeking. First of all, This study makes it clear that the goal of school library use education is to develop self-directed learning ability. It carries out a research into the present condition of school library use education which is an important educational role of a school library. Finally this study proposes some improvement plans in school library use education, as mentioned below : 1. Building an administration system of school library media center. 2. Recent developments and integration of IT are expanding the possibility of various instructional learning methods in education environments. Contemporary learning theory such as open education, self-directed learning, student's centered learning describes the students as an active and engaged information user and underscores the importance of information literacy. Therefore, school library today focus on the process of learning-teaching process rather than dissemination information, and emphasized the focus of the school electronic library as information center. The purpose of this study is examined physical components of School Electronic Library, design a model of information system and suggests a strategy for implementing teaching-learning process support services based on school electronic library and information system.

The main purpose of this study is to analyze construction of space through the investigation of the cases of school community library through Gangneung-si's life-learning project and the findings from the analysis could be summarized as below. Firstly, most space used for school community library has the size of two classes in school on average and locals use generally space for reference and learning at school community library. Secondly, the construction of space of school community library is categorized into one for book-returning, references, reading, group learning and information, and an audio-visual space is also used for group learning and reading. A space for book-returning has features based on the location of its entrance and a space for reading features stand-up and sitting-on space considering size and usability. And a space for group learning has the feature of space planning that makes it possible for local people to get library programs and seminars and a space for information shows its feature of space planning that uses the wall.

The public library is the local centre of information, the gateway to knowledge. Based on these identities, the public libraries should provide a basic condition for lifelong learning, cultural activities, and. information literacy skills of the individual and social groups. The purpose of this paper is to reflect the lifelong learning activities of public libraries and suggest it's directions in Korea. The lifelong learning of public libraries for the future needs to focus on a closer connection with library core competences, supporting information literacy, reducing and bridging the digital divide for individuals with disabilities and the aged.

The present thesis aims to analyze in consideration of recent changes in teaching environment in the universities the commercial digital contents and e-learning courses provided by the libraries, and to propose the ways to encourage university library service needed under the current situation. A survey of professors and students upon the quality of commercial digital contents service provided by the libraries in I University was made to measure its influence upon e-learning courses. The quality of commercial digital contents service provided by libraries was measured through Digital Library Service Quality Index (which will be referred as DL-SQL Model from here), which is used as a model to examine the Digital Library Service, with partial adjustments of 4 levels (information system service, digital books service, customer service quality, and customer community service) and 7 components (search possibility, an exclusive organization and interface, accessibility, digital books, customer support service, personalized service, and customer community). Among the library services in regard to digital contents, "customer service" and "customer community service" were analyzed to have stronger influence upon e-learning teaching and studying than quality-based service for "information system" and "digital books". Consequently, it is concluded that customized information service provided by the library for the professors who teach e-learning courses and their students is more influential to supporting e-learning courses than quantity pushing service through purchasing commercial digital contents, upon which the direction of digital contents policy to provide library services for e-learning courses should be based.

The purposes of this study were to develop lesson plans of library assisted practical problem-based teaching-learning for 'life and career planning' unit in high school Technology Home Economics Subject and to compare the learning effect of this lesson plan with that of practical problem-based teaching-learning in class. The change in student's perception about home economics subject was also compared after two types of teaching-learning process. The contents of the high school Technology Home Economics textbooks and curriculum guide book for the year of 2007 curriculum revision were analyzed. Based on these analysis 10 library assisted practical problem-based teaching-learning lesson plans on 'life and carrer planning' unit were developed. The high school students living in Gyeonggi province as an experimental group participated in library assisted practical problem-based teaching-learning. The control group of students who had same condition with the experimental group were taught by same lesson plans in class. After the experiment, the changes in attitudes toward life and career planning and in perception about Home Economics subject were analyzed using Analysis of Covariance. The more significant positive attitudes toward life and career planning were found in the experimental group of students compared with those of the control group of students. And compared with the control group of students, the experimental group of student perceived more positively about characteristics of Home Economics subject. Thus, the following conclusion was made that the library assisted practical problem-based teaching-learning could be one of the useful teaching-learning methods to improve attitude toward life and career planning and perception about Home Economics subject.

This study intends to evaluate the relationships between DLS union catalog and curricula and to suggest methods for its quality control. Comprehensiveness, specificity, currentness, and location of copies were selected for evaluation criteria. And this criteria were practiced to evaluate the relationships its indicators and library-based learning topics of social subjects in Seoul DLS. The results of analyses the DLS union catalog serves users with book-based learning information and lacks specificity to evaluate quality of learning materials. Especially the DLS don't satisfy the learning community with on-line contents. Accordingly it is essential to appoint teacher librarians understanding curricula and instructional values of the catalog for its quality control.

Reading abilities are the key for students' problem-solving, self-directed learning and lifelong competency. Reading to learn is usually created through resources-based learning or inquiry-based learning. This study shows a integrated cross-curriculum approach as a alternative method of the reading to learn and it is completed In collaboration with classroom teachers. In this study especially, the model for reading-based information problem solving is introduced as a specific learning strategy of a integrated cross-curriculum and team-teaching.

The purpose of this study is to examine the meaning and status of the current service of academic libraries in the aspect of its supporting roles for academic courses. The research methods include an examination of model cases from the U.S.A. and Hong Kong and also an electronic questionnaire survey of 32 academic libraries in Korea(67% response rate). With the result of the research analysis, this study aimed to provide optimal administrative plans in e-learning environment.

This study is undertaken to present the facilitation plan of English library that specialized the resource-based learning to provide learning that is suited for student's own learning style and self-leading learning as the method to learn contents required for individuals as a method for improving the English education environment in the rural areas. For this purpose, a study was conducted to find out the possibility of facilitating English library in the rural areas on the basis of consulting for structuring and operating English library in public libraries located in isolated areas clustered with low income class in the urban areas where the conditions are similar to the rural areas and results are shown as the followings. First, it displayed the possibility to have the rural area located with many closed schools or small-sized schools to facilitate the available facilities to build up the environment to specialize in English education that would be as comparable as any facilities in any urban setting. Second, it would enable the conditions to moderate the conflict on education environment for local residents who felt inequality in education by providing the benefit for fine education linked to public education through English library without going through private education. And third, English library that has the limitations in locality or economic means would actively participate by local educational institutions and volunteers to enhance the sense of master for the local residents and bring residents together to make positive impact on local economy facilitation.
