  • In this paper, I presented that transformation of library from the collection management to knowledge contents management along with paradigm shift under the web-based multimedia information environment is required. Effective web contents management call maximize users'satisfaction with personal customizing services for library users. Especially, contents customizing service using the metabrowsing service contributes to maximize the user'satisfaction by supplying core contents that the user seeks. In this paper, I studied the scheme of knowledge contents management to increase of user'satisfaction, concentrating on the management factors of web-based multimedia knowledge contents and service strategy.

  • This article describes the technical information management strategy for engineering company. The present time the quantity of information is increasing day by day, so company have problems for information service and needs the more efficient methods for information management activities. In this paper, the author suttests the improvement for engineering library system. Especially the case of KOPEC library system that can be useful engineering company information management plans.

On the Library Administrative Systems and Legislations in Russia (러시아의 도서관 행정.법제에 관한 고찰)

  • The purpose of this paper is to overview the administrative system and legislation of Russia's libraries with priority given to public library. After the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991, Russia began to set up a new political, legal, and economic system. Russia has about 51,000 public libraries. Most towns and large villages have a public library As a rule, public libraries are unified in centralized systems coincident in their location with administrative regions. The great majority of public libraries are part of a network subordinated to the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. Library legislation is an important guarantee of the success of library service. Two definitive federal laws were enacted in 1994, Library Law and Legal Deposit Copy Law. In 2001, the Russian Library Association adopted the Model Standard for Public Library. It has a recommendatory character and it is addressed to both librarians and local authorities.

A Study on User Satisfaction with e-Book Services in University Libraries (대학도서관 전자책 서비스 이용자 만족도에 관한 연구)

  • This research surveyed college students in Korea on their satisfaction for e-book services provided by university libraries. Their usage behavior was investigated, and the satisfaction rate for e-book usage and its service quality were analyzed to comprehend the status of e-book usage. The analysis showed that overall satisfaction for e-book service of university libraries was 2.93 on average. Moreover, the more frequently a student used the service, the more satisfied the student was; junior/senior-level and graduate school student groups showed higher satisfaction for e-book service than freshman and sophomore students. The most influential factor for satisfaction based on the e-book service quality was the content of the service, followed by the library support service system. Based on the findings, reinforcement of library public relations and user education, and the maintenance of the variety and up-to-date status of the contents were proposed to stimulate future university library e-book services.

  • This study suggested a plan to convert the modern literary data service of the National Library of Korea into linked data-based services. This is not to simply convert the modern literary data service into linked data, which is the current technological trend. This is to create high-quality source data capable of automated machine processing with continuous connection with various external data and information sources in the long term. To this end, in order to revitalize the service of modern literature and to solve the efficient data linkage with related institutions, various overseas library and bibliographic service cases that adopted linked data were first reviewed to draw implications. In addition, based on the reviewed implications, the plan to reorganize the modern literary service in terms of data management, system management, and user service was described in detail.

  • In this study, an ILL request system was implemented using Z39.50 item order extended service. ILL requests in this system are initiated by users through a gateway acting as a Z39.50 origin for searching remote catalog databases. When users initiate a request while searching OPACs of other libraries, an extended service request PDU for item order is first sent to the home library which subsequently generates an ILL protocol message to be sent to the target library. This approach enables users to request an item online while searching. and at the same time allows the home library to retain control over the ILL transaction.

  • This study analysed the user behaviors and satisfaction for the government information service of Nation Assembly Library of Korea, based on the questionnaires from users including the legislative employees and other library users. The results showed that legislative employees used the services more often and have more needs for the services than other users. Most legislative employees and other library users evaluated that the services should be improved and that it would be desirable to develop a portal system and services providing the integrated search and offering government information as one stop service.

  • This study is to in-depth analysis of the copyright issues related to the library's e-book service, which is the cause of the recent conflict between the publishing industry and the library industry. To this end, the purpose and outline of the copyright system were briefly summarized. Then, the jurisprudence of the Copyright Act applied to the borrowing of paper books and e-books was analyzed, and the position of the publisher's association and the library industry were reviewed together. In addition, problems of the current copyright act related to e-book services were diagnosed and directions for improvement were sought. Unlike in the case of paper books, first sale doctrine does not apply to e-book borrowing, so the library cannot acquire the right to service just by purchasing e-books. Based on the contract signed with the distributor in the process of purchasing the e-book, the library acquires the right to service the e-book. However, if the validity period of the exclusive publication right expires, the contract itself becomes invalid, which can cause serious problems in the stability of library services and preservation of resources. In order to solve this problem, it is suggested that the first sale doctrine needs to be extended to digital works.

  • The objective of this study is to build up an electronic reference service system specifically in the field of nuclear. Comparing with a library service system, this on has some advantages in that users can obtain information services through the network without spending much time and labor in visiting the library in person. A questionnaire was inquired for 300 researchers to get useful information for the building of the system. This system was proved to be useful by users.

  • This study aims to investigate the problems in conducting the first year project of a five-year school library revitalization project and to suggest the alterative to the present system for the following years. The method of evaluation was to visit the 16 local ministries of education and to interview the government school inspectors, school principals, teachers-in-chief, teacher librarians and parents. The evaluation was conducted based on the following criteria; school library facilities and increase in collection, enrichment of education W through school library, location of manpower and enhancement of profession and building the cooperation system with the private and public sectors. Additionally, school library service training and library support system were evaluated.
