A Study on the Effect of Teachers' Recognition and Application of 2015 Revised National Curriculum on Their Educational Information Needs: Focusing on High School Common Subjects (교과 교사의 2015 개정 교육과정 적용과 인식이 교육정보요구에 미치는 영향: 고등학교 공통 과목을 중심으로)

  • This study aims to identify the effects of teachers' recognition and application of 2015 revised national curriculum on their educational information needs in high schools. Several in-depth interviews and a questionnaire survey with the teachers, who were in charge of teaching common courses, such as Korean language, mathematics, English, social studies, and science, in general public high schools in Incheon, were executed for the purpose. As a result, the teachers' recognition and application affected their educational information needs in part. Especially, new demands on small sized copies and learning information sources were identified which were related to the application of 2015 revised national curriculum. Based on the results, we proposed several improvements of school library operations, such as small sized local consortium for sharing resources and providing referral services, in order to strengthen the gateway role of school libraries.

Researcher's Needs from KISTI Content Curation (KISTI 콘텐츠 큐레이션에 대한 연구자들의 요구)

  • Content curation aims to limit the user's experience to the most necessary content; to do this, it is necessary to identify users' information needs. Given that KISTI's Content Curation Center was established in 2018, it had little information about its users. This study intends to investigate what content scientists want to see from KISTI and how they want it curated. It investigated researchers who worked for government-funded research institutes through online surveys and telephone interviews. This study's results helped me review the current practice of KISTI content curation and give some suggestions to improve future practice. They present information on content and content curation services required by researchers; therefore, they can be used as a reference for information agencies (e.g., libraries, data centers) to improve their content curation practices.

Tweens' Information Needs and Information Practices on YouTube (초기 청소년들(Tweens)의 정보요구와 유튜브(YouTube)에서의 정보추구행태)

  • The purpose of the research is to find out both what information tweens (12~14 years old adolescents) need and how they use YouTube to satisfy with their information needs. In order to achieve the goal, the research collected the data by conducting a survey on tweens (N=130) and analyzed the data with statistical processes. The research found out some significant results: first, tweens frequently use the informaton on YouTube and search for leisure information most often. Second, tweens search for information on YouTube because of ease and convenience on learning information even though they do not trust the information on YouTube. Third, tweens regard that YouTube play the role as a significant information source and searching tool, and use information on YouTube because the information on YouTube are composed of easy-to-understand video format. On the basis of the results, the research suggests and discusses how information organization such as public or school libraries provide information services for youth groups effectively.

  • Recently, content using VR technology in various fields is gradually increasing, and the technology is also rapidly spreading. Against this background, public libraries also need to provide services using VR technology according to the flow of the times. Therefore, this study drew application points through the investigation and analysis of domestic and foreign public libraries where VR programs are underway. And based on this, a final proposal is prepared after planning and reviewing VR-based educational and cultural programs in public libraries. VR-based educational and cultural programs introduced can be used as basic data for planning VR-based cultural programs in public library.

  • Today, despite the increase in professional knowledge-related information needs of citizens, the expansion of citizen participatory research in academia, and the provision of information services for the professional knowledge, there are still difficulties in access to scholarly information resources by laypeople. Focusing on this problem, this study investigates laypeople's scholarly information needs and behaviors through a questionnaire survey. By examining the search and use behaviors of scholarly information resources, and the perception of the need to support the utilization of them, this study analyzes the degree and pattern of social sharing of scholarly information resources beyond the scholarly community. This study is significant in that it expands the range of users in traditional scholarly communication and emphasizes the need to support them to access and use scholarly information resources.

A Study on Data Linkage Between Public Data Portals and Individual Portals (공공데이터 포털과 개별 포털 간의 데이터 연계방안 연구)

  • The Public Data Portal(data.go.kr) is a gateway for searching and using public data in South Korea. In 2021, the Ministry of Public Administration and Security established individual portal maintenance plans. Individual portals refer to portals built by public institutions in Korea other than the public data portal. According to the maintenance plan, the Korea Intelligence Information Society, the operator of the public data portal, needs to establish operating and data integration plans to link the public data portal and individual portals. In this study, we investigated the current operating status and data integration methods of the public data portal in South Korea, the United States, the United Kingdom, and France, and proposed that the adoption of a top-down approach is efficient when integrating data. In addition, we divided the specific procedures that should be pursued when integrating data into five stages: determination of data integration standard methods, analysis of metadata status, expansion of operating infrastructure, confirmation of data import, and launch of services.

An Exploratory Study of Natural Scientists' Information Seeking Behavior When Writing a Research Proposal (자연과학분야 연구자들의 연구계획서 작성을 위한 정보추구행동의 탐색적 연구)

  • This study aims to explore information seeking behavior of natural scientists when they are writing a research proposal for applying to funding. It focuses on understanding their information needs and information seeking behavior, and factors influencing the behavior. Based on the conceptual framework of task-based information seeking, qualitative research methods including in-depth interviews and diary study are used. The results reveal that a variety of communicative subtasks take place in the process of research proposal writing. Also, the scientists tend to need information related funding opportunities and to research design, and access sources including human resources, documents, online databases and websites to meet their information needs. Finally, the study shows that the scientists' information seeking behavior when writing a proposal is influenced by personal, task-related, and sociocultural factors. This study will be helpful to design effective information services and strategies to assist science scholars applying to research funding.

Ethics-Literacy Curriculum Modeling for Ethical Practice of 5G Information Professionals (5G 정보환경 정보전문가를 위한 윤리 리터러시 교육과정 모형연구)

  • Ethical Issues increase when people engage in smart technological systems such as 5G, IoT, Cloud computing services and AI applications. Range of this research is comparison of various literacy concepts and its ethical issues in considering of 5G features and UX. 86 research papers and reports which have been published within the recent 5 years (2017-2022), relating the research subject, are investigated and analyzed. Two results show that various literacies can be grouped into four areas and that some of common issues among those areas as well as unique issues of each area are identified. Based on the literature analysis, an Operational Definition of Ethics-Literacy is presented and the model of ethics-literacy curriculum supporting ethical behavior of 5G information professionals is developed and suggested.

Information Needs and Information Seeking Behaviors of Students in the Science School for Gifted (과학영재학교 학생들의 정보요구 및 정보이용행태에 관한 연구)

  • This study aims to analyze students' information needs and information-seeking behavior at science schools for gifted through in-depth interviews. The research design was conducted based on previous studies. Through in-depth interviews, this study examined ten students from six out of eight science schools for the gifted in Korea for information needs and overall information-seeking behavior. The results showed the information needs of students at science schools for gifted in the areas of curricular and extracurricular activities as well as the information-seeking behavior in teaching, learning, and research activities, which were the main topics of interest to students based on the ISP model. Based on these results, we identified the preferred information sources in the information-seeking process and discussed the peculiarities and implications of students' information-seeking behavior. The research is meaningful as it can be used as a basis for further research on the science school for gifted library and as a resource for providing services for students with deep interests and talents in science subject areas.

A Basic Guide to Network Simulation Using OMNeT++ (OMNeT++을 이용한 네크워크 시뮬레이션 기초 가이드)

  • OMNeT++ (Objective Modular Network Testbed in C++) is an extensible and modular C++ simulation library and framework for building network simulators. OMNeT++ provides simulation models independently developed for various fields, including sensor networks, and Internet protocols. This enables researchers to use the tools and features required for their desired simulations. OMNeT++ uses NED (Network Description) Language to define nodes and network topologies, and it is able to implement the creation and behavior of defined network objects in C++. Moreover, the INET framework is an open-source model library for the OMNeT++ simulation environment, containing models for various networking protocols and components, making it convenient for designing and validating new network protocols. This paper aims to explain the concepts of OMNeT++ and the procedures for network simulation using the INET framework to assist novice researchers in modeling and analyzing various network scenarios.
